I have a great way of finding the same spot twice without coordinates. There is an app called what3words, strange concept but it is clever. Every 3m x3m in the world has 3 words attached to it. So you can just tell someone the 3 word name of the square you are/we’re in. It’s coordinates for the literate but numerically challenged folk. Great video as always!👍

You just get better and better with age and yet have your childish entertaining side (letting off the fire extinguisher on the nettles). The video is marvellous love the sunset, the fish and the noise of the waves. plus your cook up. Hi Graeme thank you for another great video. I recently caught a flounder and the fish swallowed the hook so deep i could not remove it. I had to cut the line and release the fish with the hook still in. I am a beginner and have lost my confidence at beach fishing in case it happens again. I would very much like to get out fishing again, have you any advice for me?
@thomassmith87014 жыл бұрын
The Potting Shed Allotment Fish do surprisingly well when deep hooked if the line is cut. High carbon hooks corrode and around half the time the fish can expel them without too much trouble. If they don’t then the flounder is just having a short cut to it’s own inevitable end anyway (fish don’t die of old age, something inevitably will eat it). Of course, we should try and allow every fish to reach its breeding age but in the great scheme of things a single fisherman taking the odd fish or having the odd one not survive the release isn’t doing anywhere near the damage of commercial fishing by catch. Fishing, in any form will always cause a degree of harm and shorten the lives of the fish we catch. We have to accept that but also keep in perspective the impact that is having. You will Deep hook fish, you will have fish break you off and swim away with your rig. That is part of fishing. You take steps to avoid it, using circle hooks for example and using well tied secure rigs and controlling the fish you catch to stop it getting into snags but if you can’t come to terms with the fact that you’re going to harm some fish then you shouldn’t be fishing. Note I said “fishing” not “sea fishing” as the same principles apply to freshwater too. You might see the fish swim away when you release it but you definitely aren’t seeing the long term impact on its wellbeing.

I enjoy watching fellow hoarders justify their collection of stuff. I have two similar collections. Our house in Montgomery Alabama is in the city so I have to maintain a certain level of decorum. My other collection is 130 miles away at The Thicket Encampment. I have a 40 foot Conex container, 30 foot military communication trailer & a small house filled with collected treasure. I was a construction electrician who dumpster dove on every job I worked on. Our collections are so similar. I own over 100 vintage bicycles. Most were bought at yard sales & thrift stores. We may live a world away from one another but I can identify with you & your collection. Sort cautiously, you may need it later...

There is an app out that breakdown services and emergency services use to locate vehicles/people which is free of charge and locates a position to within 3 metres. Its called "What3words" and is available on the Google Play Store and, I imagine, on the Apple Store as well. Just turn it on and it will give you three words for your exact location anywhere in the world. Brilliant for marking swims, good spots etc. Can also be very good fun with the combination of words it comes out with. So much easier than entering longitude and latitude.

So sorry for the flooding. I hope you wife isn't too distraught. Also think about Mike and Emmy in the west country, and hoping all is well with them. However, you've given me chuckle after chuckle, watching you get increasingly desperate to cling on to everything you have. Not complaining though, I'd be the same if we didn't live in a flat. Don't know about you, but I think a dog fish resembles an embryo of some kind of monster in a sci-fi film. I do like them tho, pretty little fish. Hanging on to as much as possible is something I got from my grandad. He served in 1st and 2nd world wars. He wouldn't walk past a bent nail on a path, home it went to join a hundred thousand other in t large collection of very bi tobacco tins. I spent 100s of hours with him in his shed, and taking fallen trees from common land for his fires. Like yourself Graeme, it gave a sense of value to so much in life. I don't know if you've heard, but even Phil Brisco has suffered from water damage from recent weather events. ( not his fishery, his home). On a final note, I popped into watmore farm this afternoon on the way past and it was teaming with fish small and large topping. Had all my gear in the car, but no bait. And it was deserted, only a couple of polite kids walking horses. Be well young Sir, tight lines.
