One tip with your feeder set up would be to shorten the hooklength right down to 6-8", any longer than that when fishing hard on the bottom will just give the fish more room to move before you see the bite (ie. it's easier for them to get away with it). Longer hooklengths only really work well in running water where the hookbait and loosefeed are being washed downstream or if you're using a slow sinking hookbait and recasting every 5 minutes with a cloudy groundbait to try and pick fish off on the drop in a lake. Personally I find a flatbed method feeder with the hoobait sat on top to be the best as it focusses all the attention right around your hookbait and the short 4" hooklength really nails them as they come in for a mouthful. Other tips for bream would be that they're greedy devils in groups and if you want to hold a shoal long enough to reap the rewards then you need to keep a good amount of food items in your swim (on some waters I've had to put well over 15kg of feed in over night to keep up with demand). You can tell if a shoal has turned up because of the dramatic increase in line bites but ignore the little taps and wait for the big pull round or drop back, when proper bream are feeding they tend to move at speed rather than slowly graze like skimmers seem to. One thing I wouldn't be without in the warmer months when targeting snotters would be fishmeal whether in the form of carp/halibut pellets or a fishmeal groundbait, it's like catnip to them, they can't leave it alone. Sorting out the bigger ones from a shoal can be tricky but bigger baits is generally the only reliable way, they do love a boilie or a ball of worm sections on a hair and you can make these baits big enough to be somewhat tiddler-proof. Location wise I'd be looking for as deep of a bit of water as I could find during the day, you'll catch plenty of skimmers in shallow water but if it's less than 5ft and/or weedy then the chances are that the bigguns won't want to be there. Chances are they'll be up in the mid water and barely feeding during the day but as the light drops they'll start to move around the bottom of the marginal drop offs looking for food. They're shoal animals so imagine them like a flock of sheep, they'll tend to stay on open ground where they can keep an eye on what's going on around them and will only go through the vision obscuring undergrowth if they absolutely have to.

You missed the other dipping tank labelled COVID-19 .... supposed to strip off & dip yer carcass... 😂😂😂 When measuring out, I allow an extra distance equivilant to the clearance behind me (depends on room) ... then I walk back & cast from that spot. This means I can leave the line clip permanantly set without suddenly bangin up against it as soon as I get a bite... 🙄😏 Holding the rod vertically when the line hits the clip (during casting) also gives you an extra rods-length of room when you tighten down.. 😎👍☘️🍺

It's a Japanese product; it's called Sabiki-kun (サビキ君) by Marukyu (マルキュー), seems to be about £3 to £4 per kg in Japan. Shrimp is the main ingredient. Full ingredient list: Ami shrimp, rice bran, cellulose, salt, some sort of alcohol, colouring, preservatives and a pH adjuster. On one of the sites it says 'Doesn't get your hands dirty, even delicate women and children can use it without worry'. Hope that's shed some light after all these years! haha Let me know if you need any other Japanese things translated, they have so many good fishing products. Also, been watching your vids on and off for absolutely ages, since the first time you showed dog biscuits, thanks for all the tips! What is the difference between a runs water and a regular fishery?
@scottwalker62574 жыл бұрын
It's mainly a term from carp-fishing. A runs water is a lake with a heavy stock of fish where are likely to get lots of runs (bites). They may be smaller average size though. A regular water would be lower stock but maybe bigger fish. That's how I understand it anyway.

Hey Graeme, no idea or you are reading this but I'm a big fan of the show from Belgium, you know, across the pond. I would like to ask you a question because I need some help with catching fish. Basically there is this canal close to where I live that for recreational purposes only. No big canal boats etc and its great fishing water. Especially for perch and really big roach. But I caught a good size perch last week. First one ever out of that canal but there are giants in there. I've seen an angler with a 16 inch+ perch but ill get to the point. I'm kinda tired of catching the smaller perch which I catch in loads. I want to catch the bigger ones. And I need some help with that, mind giving me some tips? Appreciate it if you do .
@wm77824 жыл бұрын
It's not all about the size mate but l must admit hes a lucky angler 16+
@vtrmcs4 жыл бұрын
Stick the small perch back on a larger hook! Joking aside, livebaiting is most effective, if considered a bit unethical these days. Alternatively, use Pike lures to specifically target larger Perch. Small perch live in shoals, large Perch live alone. They generally live around underwater features and structures. The most success I've ever had with large Perch was with large Mepps spinners (plain silver) which I'd added weedless hooks to. Second most effective I'd say would be very large lob worms/garden worms, but other species will take those very often. You can try anything that a predator would eat, including sections of fish. Use pike tackle with wire traces to help around snags and insure against a pike taking your bait. Other than that, it's a waiting game. I'm not sure how it is in Belgium, but in the UK, a Perch over 2lb is considered a really good catch. My best ever, some 20 odd years ago, was 3.1lb from a gravel pit in Yorkshire. I've never come close to that since then. Edit: Perch have enormous mouths, so don't be concerned on bait size. I've had tiny little perch smaller than my hand take baits intended for big pike, so certainly no need to be cautious. They are aggressive little fish!
@jaspermutsaerts23274 жыл бұрын
vtrmcs thanks for the tips! I usually fish with a float and earthworms. Somehow perch aren’t into the baits I use but that might also be a result of the terrible technique I have. Thing is that you can fish with dead or live baits in Belgium or you have to buy a more expansive permit. Further I’d say the canal isn’t that deep and that there isn’t any current on it because there are no locks on the direct end of the canal. But there are some big perch on the canal and a while ago I went fishing with 3 friends and they all catched a perch about 11-12 inch fishes. I also tried these little grey shrimps as bait but to no avail. It’s also funny how they don’t bite on maggots as well. Only earthworms work on the canal.
@freechordsthetruthmarceden82774 жыл бұрын
Have ya tried cooked prawns (shrimp) my friend? The king prawn variety is best - if you can get them? Try a local freezer based supermarket. A bag will cost around £3 here from 'Iceland' (store) - (around 4€) - they're a killer bait, ESPECIALLY if it's a new bait for the fish, i.e. they haven't been caught in it before. Prawns tend to sort out the larger perch too! Best regards. M.E.
@jaspermutsaerts23274 жыл бұрын
