So many people have told me I have to try Magpantay Bakery on the outskirts of BGC in Manila. So we got some of their best sellers and we'll eat and review!

If you're going to Batangas, drop by Tagaytay too, if you haven't been. My favorite bakery there is Bag of Beans. It's been a while since we visited, so I hope they're still open and still selling delicious bread. I always get their Ube Macapuno paired with Barako Coffee. Bulalo is also a must try (though the hype died for me when I learned how to make Bulalo) and we like to buy pasalubong from Rowena's. Their tarts are to die for! We always get the coconut pie and the blueberry tart.

Hello, Kurt. I am your new Subscriber. I've known you when I watched one of the vlogs of Calvin. I enjoy how you speak in Filipino or Tagalog so fluently. To support you, I don't skip your ads no matter how long they are. . . . You can try steamed, fried, or baked Siopao sold by Specialty Fastfoods or Chinese Restaurants. You are a down-to-earth foreigner who is not picky when it comes to food. Thank you for supporting our local micro-entrepreneurs. When you ask PA-SHOUT OUT? You have to say it with an increasing accent at the end of the sentence, like asking a question. So, people will respond positively. If you don't say it in an interrogative manner, they won't know that you are asking them if they want to be shouted out.

Appreciate how you highlight small businesses. Gotta love those mom-and-pop panaderias. Pandesal and kababayan are my bakery staples, but hopia baboy is also a nice treat. It's a soft, flaky pastry with a sweet filling.

I grew up in my family’s bakery business which was started by my father & his brothers in the 1960s. They hailed from Cuenca, Batangas where most of the original bakery owners in Manila came from. From the name of the bakery (Magpantay) where you bought your breads, it looks like the owner is from Batangas too. Thank you Kurt for supporting our neighborhood bakeries. 🩷

When that Ube bread is baked it’s one long roll or log so it’s called Ube Roll. But once cut up into individual pieces it’s called a Pianono. That comes in different flavors, buttered, mocha, chocolate among others.

Try exploring Manila proper (Quiapo area, Malate, Sampaloc, Sta. Cruz). It's got lots of barangays and is rich in history since colonial times. The area you are used to be grassland back then, not much history there. That is the real Philippines with rich historical background.
