no idea if anyone has mentioned this-look up the ptolemaea acapella. after that STOP, ethel KEEPS screaming. during the verses at the end, you can hear her _gasping for air, gagging, and then her death rattle._ absolutely insane piece of work

As a rape and attempted murder survivor, this song speaks to me on a primal level
@kaitlynkiernan26703 ай бұрын
As a survivor of dv the this is so rawly perfect of running and the scream! That scream is a scream I think a woman knows. Knowing the story of Ethel Cain but when o first heard this, that scream isn’t fear of death but fear what something worse than dead for a woman. I hope that listen to the 2 instruments and Strangers

Ethel Cain is one of my most streamed artist if not the top one. This song isn't a song that I would just listen to casually 😭 I used to but not anymore. It's so dark and depressing if you know the context. Also reminding yall that Ethel wants to make a movie out of this one day since yall were talking about movies in the beginning.

Since y’all mentioned Deftones, Ethel Cain is inspired by Chelsea Wolfe (who did a song with Chino called “Shadows & Light”). If you enjoy this, Chelsea is a good next step (well, some songs). But the dark, visceral nature of this particular song is FULLY Lingua Ignota.
@tropfrette2 ай бұрын
I reaaally hope that Ethel will bring this Ignota vibe in her next project! The new song she released (Punish) makes me think she’ll experiment a lot more with this dark sound!

re: having more songs in the queue: if "Hard Times" is one of the songs in the queue, PLEASE review trigger warnings for it before listening - for your own good. I know y'all have daughters - you're NOT gonna like how that one makes you feel (I don't mean in a "pulls at your heartstrings" way - I mean in a "make you angry/disgusted and want to throw up afterwards" way) Also I know you've heard it a bunch already, but I beg you to look up the storyline of the whole album on Genius if you haven't already. Especially for this song, and before listening to "Sun Bleached Flies," "Strangers," and "Gibson Girl". The meanings behind this/those ones are so important. This isn't just a horror song for the sake of being scary - it's the distillation of female fear.

This album is one of my faves, and if this had been the only Ethel Cain song y'all reacted to I would have been so annoyed, but having seen your other reactions and having seen this reaction, (and specifically how much y'all appreciated the song along with having worthwhile commentary,) I did enjoy this reaction. *If "August Underground" & "Televangelism" are requested please react to them together, (they are like the part two and three to this song's part one.)

You should definitely listen along with the lyrics in front of you with Hayden. Her singing style can be quite muffled at times and it’s important to know what she’s saying. Ptolemaea is definitely one of those songs I’d recommend listening to with the lyrics in front of you.
