You're moving so slow but I can't still follow. I just started learning Tai Chi and I will not stop until I'm better with it. I am so thankful for your videos

My advice would to learn the moves he’s teaching you in this vid separately first. There’s a pretty good Tai Chi teacher named Zak Song that teaches them separately. This guy combines them, which is ok, but not really for beginners imo. I’m trying to learn them combined now that I know them separately.

I have tried many utube videos for beginner Tai Chi. I am an advaned beginner based on series of classes several years ago. This is the best one for completeness, explaining some of the meaning behind the practice and his beautiful slow movements which will give beginners a practice routine which is both fun and helpful for expanding ability to practice the form.

Is there anywhere I can see a demonstration of these forms that are presented by "mirroring" where Peter performs the movements and we can follow along by looking at the screen? In these demonstrations you can't follow along because everything is with the opposite arm/foot etc. So in order to perform the first movement where Peter moves his left foot - if I move my left foot it's actually reverse of what I'm seeing. I hope this makes sense. Thanks

What is the major difference between Tai Chi and Qi Gong?
@taichiqu6 жыл бұрын
what do you mean when you explain ‘twist step’ at 6:16? I can’t see any twisting action. and how do you strum the lute at form 5? it seems like you hold a lute. so ‘holding the lute’ is more correct expression for form 5? or ‘struming’ action is omitted?
@PeterChenTaiChiLife6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your message and suggetions. It's actually a bow step. But because we take a left step and push with the right arm so it look like a twist movement. 'Brush Knee and Twist step' is literally translated from the original Chinese name of this Form '搂膝拗步‘. Your suggestion of 'holding the lute' does make sense because there is no strumming action. My translation comes literally from the original Chinese name of this Form '手挥琵琶‘. By the way, those Chinese Taichi names sometimes exert beautiful artistic imagination but don't exactly match the movements.
@taichiqu6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer. Back to the 2nd question, as Tai Chi originated from martial art, all the form consist of defending motion followed by attacking motion. Wild Horse (Form 2), White Crane (Form3), Brush Knee Twisting Step (Form4) and even the first form Commencing.. all the form do that. But only at the Form 5, I cannot see the attacking motion. Just defending motion is seen (as if holding the lute). Almost all the other practitioners of Yang Style (usually from China) on the You Tube are doing the same way as you do. So I believe a key motion is omitted here while they introduced the simple Tai Chi 24 Form in 1960s China. The ancestors certainly did not use the word 手挥 for simple beautiful imagination. The fact that ' a lute' was used in describing the motion is a beautiful metaphor already. Would you mind finding the answer? If my suggestion feels unpleasant, you can just neglect it. I hope your eternal improvement.
@PeterChenTaiChiLife6 жыл бұрын
Dear Dennis, Hands Strum the Lute is actually an attacking motion to break or injury opponent arm in the original martial arts. Please take another look at my explanation in this video for it's defending and attacking meanings. By the way, some forms can be only for attacking or for defending. Best regards, Peter @@taichiqu

Apologies tai chi practitioners...but the defense & attack motions were debunked by mma fighters. Bruce Lee was the first to say that flowery movements are useless in combat. Tai Chi in my opinion is more for energizing the body. Not for combat.
