Susan talked about not having to work up a sweat doing tai chi but many times I have started my practice with a jacket and ten minutes into the practice I am taking it off because I am too warm due to the chi. Also, the postural alignment, which was taught early, has been huge for me. After years of working on a computer at my desk, just a few years of tai chi has improved my posture immensely. I just had a hip replacement and the first time my physical therapist saw me, she commented on my good posture. I wish I had discovered tai chi earlier.

Thank you, Sandy. Yes, Tai Chi works wonders for the posture and does help to recover from orthopedic injuries and surgeries faster. Sounds like you are a great testimonial for the benefits of Tai Chi! :-)

Not to oppose to what the friendly guest said, The origin of Taichi... Martial arts don't really start, but when they get famous, they're given names, and legends are told about having always been around, for thousands of years. Many years ago, there was this Chen family, who got in the business of security, they protected cargo when in transit. They had a private, in the family fighting system, based on Shaolin training. Later on, a medical doctor outside the family managed to have this system taught to him, and he changed it into a form of physiotherapy for the elderly. He and his family were responsible for the Taichi marketing and popularization, especially when the Royal family got into it aswell. This is the origin story I found, me not being content with legends.

Local parks are full of people practicing tai chi. It's based on "martial arts" aka hurting someone. Viet Nam in '66 and over 30 years LEO i'm trained and experienced in hurting people. I'm away from that now thankfully. I'll pass.

Actually Tai Chi is the opposite of hurting someone. It is a soft martial art, meaning we take the incoming force of the "attacker" and guide it away, using the momentum of the offender by repelling them away in a soft, rolling off manner. We inflict no pain, no marks, and no strikes. Like you, I refuse to engage in any type of art that inflicts pain or hurts others. I admire your resolve! Thank you for your service and your perspective.
