It's trickier than that. For instance you can't tell a beginner to not use his shoulders unless you can show him how to replace his shoulder force with something else. "Just relax" or "release the flesh" misses how to develop what takes the place ...

i am using a similar analogy to song while standing, a tent with a fix pole and the cloth not yet streched and hanging from the top

Thanks for the video ! Ramzi, is it good to maintain this state (flesh released from bones) in day to day life when you're not practicing taichi directly (for example, when eating, walking etc) ?

certainly. Try and maintain throughout your day and make it your predominant state.

Am I right in thinking that this is the first level of release? Would be interesting if you could also visualise what the other levels of release are like?

It really depends where you are currently at. I advocate improving the quality of release rather than chasing someone else's list.

💯. There is necessary muscle engagement for stability. The goal is to engage less and less of that which is unnecessary.
