As a foreigner living in Malaysia, i always compare the car price here with my homeland. Yes the price in Malaysia is relatively higher. BUT, the cost of runing a car here in Malaysia is super cheap, you have lower fuel price (quality?), cheaper insurance, cheap parking fee,etc. Except the kopi fee you may need to pay when you get stoped by mata-mata. Tai got good point in the video, don't try to compare with larger countries like China, what you can see is you can buy cars cheap, but they are expensive to run one.

Great review. But the problem of price perception in Malaysia is because of the disparity between salary and purchasing power. As you put it, a person earning average salary in UK can easily afford even a £50k car (which is already very expensive), whereas a person earning average salary in Malaysia will find it hard to afford RM50k car in Malaysia, and that’s before conversion. That’s why people think cars in Malaysia are so expensive.
@retardbuster14982 жыл бұрын
Yup...they earn 10 GBP per hour, we earn 10 ringgit per hour. Same amount of effort being put into work, but they get more in return.
Here in NZ, Toyota Rav4 2.0L 2WD is selling at NZ$35000 (RM101500), and 2.5L AWD is selling around NZ$43000 (RM125000). But in Malaysia the price is more than double. I bought myRav4 Hybrid AWD for NZ$41000 last year.

Having expensive car in Singapore is just what you see in the surface. If you walk around the car dealer showroom in Singapore and ask around, you will find that with the sky rocket price you have to pay, you can only get the most basic model (as some of the basic features of a car in other countries is consider as luxury class in Singapore). Because the Singapore Government is the biggest benefactor in car sale, the dealer will have to remove several basic car features to increase their profits. Which mean compared to a Malaysia basic model to a Singapore car, you will come to understand a new definition to the word BASIC, and I still have not touch on the expenses of owning a car in Singapore yet if the above have not frighten you. Anyone who complained owning a car is expensive in their country should take a look at Singapore, it make your situation look like a walk in the park. The only place I can think of that is worth mentioning is probably Hong Kong, while their car price is low, to buy a parking lot there is also comparable to Singapore COE system (where sometime you need to bid for it).
I love what you said at the end of the video. Malaysians mostly all they did just complaint, questioning, comparing. But never like to do research on how all these things work. Too naive.

Not only Singapore is expensive, the car can only be owned for 10 years. If you decided to continue using the car after 10 years, then you got to pay Certificate of Entitlement (COE) to drive another 10 years. Technically this is call rent. If that is not bad enough for you, consider a piece of the COE will usually cost 3 and sometime 4 times of your car price. So if you think to own a car is expensive in Malaysia, take a closer look at Singapore.
