I'm a Brite guy who got invited to a Mack BBQ long ago. Once everyone calmed down that I was there, had a few beers, and saw I was drooling over the grill and asking questions about recipes, everything changed. I got challenged to use their kitchen and grill to show some skills. I was impressed with the secret recipes perfection, and they were impressed that i could improvise some tasty plates. Got invited back numerous times. Never got that recipe, still haven't figured it out. Anyone who knows BBQ is an art will knock your socks off and stuff your gullet until you tap out.

@@faiththomas1749 it depends on the event. Some tailgates start earlier than others. A local could answer that better. If you are invited you are invited. Any libation should suffice. No one should give you grief over what you drink or in your case don't.

I can relate to this well I was at my first Tailgate 2weeks ago Jets v Bills and it was crazy, people started drinking at 9am. Being Irish i dont know anything about American football so was lost when ppl were talking about stats. Was a great experience and advise any1 travelling the US to give it ago regardless if u like/ understand the sport!

True tailgaters i know and tailgates I've been to are all inclusive. No one tells their friends that they aren't allowed to leave for other tailgates in the parking lot. They'll be all for their friend leaving and bringing back some food or drink. At an authentic tailgate party everyone is friendly and everything is communal property. Pass it around.

It’s when football fans with trucks...open up the “tailgate”...to sit on, drink beer on, put party platters on...to “party” before an American football game. You don’t even have to have a truck tailgate...but that’s where it originated. Since “tailgate” has been re-purposed in America for pre-football game parties...when someone is riding too close to your bumper...it’s usually just “some jerk is riding on my tail”.
