IPhone 13 Mini with A18 is such a missed opportunity for the SE4. Oh the pocketable simplicity a one camera Mini could have offered.. I think Apple needs to bring 120 hz to the regular 16 so the SE doesnt take sales away. The 16 needs as many new features as possible to differentiate it. The Pros getting 5x zoom and bigger screens is enough to justify that upgrade.

Wouldn't reduce cost for Apple though because they're saving money but cuz they're using an existing chassis that they're already manufacturing by the millions. They're no longer manufacturing the mini so they would have to start manufacturing those chassis again and because those chassis were less popular you would have less economies of scale. As much as I wish it was a mini I think the whole way they save money is by using the existing chassis they still have on the market.

​@@Christianmingle420I don't think that's the issue The iPhone 13 mini powerful chip was fine. Just that they're not manufacturing the mini chassis anymore so there isn't much cost savings associated with it if they have to completely start a new assembly line and order small screens again. The whole point of the SE series is to use existing hardware on models they're still selling or at least with chassis they're still selling and sticking the latest chip and software in it. I understand why people want the mini hell I want the mini too. But it would be quite inefficient for Apple to have to start up a whole new assembly line and order a bunch of displays that they haven't been ordering. By just using 6.1 inch displays they can just add it to an existing order and the economy is a scale are so much greater

SE2 User here. Love it. Would upgrade to SE3 or 12 Mini after software support is dropped. Love smaller iphones and going to use them (SE2/SE3/12Mini/13Mini) until they all lose iOS support & updates. USB-C: Not a dealbreaker. Ultrawide: Not a dealbreaker but would like. I really don’t think the objective of the SE was a smaller phone. It’s simply cheaper to manufacture because the logistics and manufacturing lines already existed for years when you use an old frame. Placing the latest chip in it makes the current chip cheaper across the board as it increases volumes.

It's crazy how everyone says Apple should use the mini. I mean I would love that but the whole point of the SES series is to take advantage of the manufacturing efficiencies of the existing chassis. They would have to order not only assembly line to start manufacturing the old mini chassis again but they would also have to order displays. Because there are different size than all their other phones they would not get the economies of scale. So sure as much as we want the mini to return it would only make sense on the SE series if it was still on the market and selling well.

My personal theory is that the 14 will be discontinued when the 2025 SE comes out. Considering how similar it and the 14 seem to be (it literally sounds like it is going to be a 14 with no ultrawide camera, the A18 chip, and a USB-C port), plus the fact Apple may want to create a larger price gap between the SE and everything else since this new design will almost definitely carry a larger price tag, it makes sense. I also could see them doing this to purge the lineup of Lightning once and for all, since the 14 would stand out like a sore thumb in that regard.

The sad part is it would be easier and probably cheaper for Apple to take a Iphone 13, slap an A18 in there and call it a day than Engineering an entire new phone, JUST to keep the Status quo of the SE only having 1 Camera. Phones half that price have 3 Cameras, even if the third is just a Macro. And the 60 Herz thing… its just a thing you should‘nt do out of Principle … all the phones in the same pricerange from Samsung and Google have 120 Herz, and Cheaper phones have 90. we live in 2024.

iphone se 4 seems solid as to use a budget phone to pair with other Apple products like Mac, Ipad without needing to have much Apple Tax from standard iphones. Especially in countries where currency conversion is big.

Apple should release two models, the iPhone SE and iPhone SE Plus. These would be based on the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 designs. Apple recently added refurbished iPhone 13 minis and they have been selling out quickly. To all of those against the iPhone mini design, let's be real for a moment. If people did not want small phones, then why are clamshell foldables still around?

Never buy from Apple directly. Resellers in the UK always have the latest iPhone discounted by 100 pounds compared to Apple. Knowing that, most likely the 15 will be a good deal at £599 very close to the SE4. Honestly in that case, not sure which one to choose.

Keeping my SE3 in the official iPhone 7 battery case. Have gone through a couple of these cases since they’re so old but I still get more than all day battery life with somewhat more bulk. If it was a new iPhone mini, I probably would switch to Face ID. I don’t think I will upgrade based on the SE4 and might finally go Android once this iPhone finally stops working.

This sounds good to me. A 48 megapixel sensor is solidddd. And it absolutely should have usbc and A18 chip for apple intelligence. I just feel like they should also make a mini version for the small phone customers who want another powerful iPhone. That way they can start the lineup at $429-449. Sizewjze this would be much closer to the previous SE models too. I also think it will replace the normal 14 as it staying in the lineup would be awkward and of course they have to switch to usb c by the end of this year anyway.

I just hope that if I were the designer. I would take the iPhone 13 mini to use an IPS screen, a small punch-hole front camera, no FID, no strange islands, use a fingerprint scanner on the side button, have USB-C A18 Ram 6-8GB Rom starting at 128GB, a single 48MP rear camera with night mode, a 2500 mAh battery, a polycarbonate back cover, if it is a removable type like the old days, it is even better, no need for waterproofing, the same price, I think it will be good and not too close to the iPhone 16. It will sell well, not to steal market share from the iPhone 16 itself.

SE4. I use zoom more then the ultrawide on my 13 Pro Max and would probably be okay with a 48MP pixelbinned digital crop. Plus I much prefer the notch over that gapping exit wound of a holepunch. The notch at least had the decency to stay up and out of the way in the system bar

Decided this summer I was going to do some cord cleaning as far as my chargers were concerned. Turns out in just my car I had 6 USBc cords and only 2 lightning cords. My house was worse 😂 long story short my next move is definitely to address that first! All my devices, minus my phone, have type c charging, that needs to change. As for budget, I’m all for saving a couple bucks, but the pro model has me by the throat now and I can’t see myself downgrading to a basic or entry level model 😢

Personally, I think a budget offering that caters to what the typical audience for budget phones wants (which, that's large screens) is the correct move. It's what Samsung does, and their $400 phones look downright decent - I could live with them and not miss flagships too much, because all of the _most important_ features are there. People talk about Samsung and Google borrowing a lot from iPhone, but we see the reverse happen too, and I'm all for it - if one company comes up with a good idea, and every other company borrows that idea, they're all better for it. Now, for people who like smaller phones, I think the future of that is foldables. Which sounds ridiculous when the Fold 6's outer display is 6.3" diagonal, but here's the thing: that's mostly from height. It's about 4mm narrower than the iPhone 15, which is already relatively compact due to the small bezels. This makes it great for one-handed typing, it melts away in your pocket, it's super comfortable to hold in one hand as well, and this doesn't come at the cost of screen real estate when you need it, on account of the hinge. Of course, we could see the small outer screen go the way of the iPhone Mini, or Apple could never wind up making a foldable, so we'll see. I love mine though - it's substantially more comfortable in one hand or my pocket than my iPhone XR ever was, yet at the same time I have the screen real estate to run 2-3 apps at once whenever that's called for.

Apple’s strategy is to sell 3 generations of phones, their current flagship is EU ready, their next flagship will be EU ready, and this one (probably will be called Iphone air, not SE4) will function as the third year out budget model. They will probably continue to sell SE3 for a few years, the SE exists so that customers (grandmas mostly) dont have to relearn ios and also because some people cant use oled screens. The only reason Apple replaced SE2 so quickly is that it didnt have 5g, the only reason to replace the SE3 so quickly is for EU sales, but I doubt Europeans buy many SE phones so Apple probably doesnt see it as worthwhile.
