My guess there is another aspect not discussed in this video - China has proven itself to be very smart about their long term strategies. Therefore, unlike Russia, it probably acknowledges that war would destroy so much valuable assets, businesses and technological developments cultivated for decades in Taiwan. War would basically make that island useless from economical perspective, making in addition tens of millions hostile citizens living there.

Yes, but that would not fit the narrative of that military guy. He wants to portray Taiwan as an island where cruel dictatorships (then Japan, now China) start their attacks on innocent little puppies on a beach in Pearl Harbour. Therefore China must not ever get a hold on Taiwan (to attack Pearl Harbour).

These are all provocations of well-known countries, now they are unleashing a military conflict in Serbia and Kosovo, there are shelling in Syria, Romania is being set up against Transnistria, China. In Ukraine, thousands of Russians have died in the Donbas for 8 years, no one shouted stop the genocide and freedom and independence of the Donbass, on the contrary, they supply weapons to Ukraine, show everyone and say that they are defending, but in fact they know perfectly well that they continue to use against civilians in Ukraine

Taiwan is not a country, not like Ukraine. Today sb broke my country, tomorrow they will break a lot of countries around the world by their forces, and they want to control all of the world, not just cooperations. And China grows up quickly, but never invaded ours. We want a peaceful world and make a beautiful world under everyone’s study- hard, work-hard. What the US wants is to create a local conflict between CHINA and Taiwan [as well as RUSSIA and Ukraine]. USA would not get involved in that war directly with CHINA. Well, as we all know, the US cowardly only picks on small countries. Now it is important to see CHINA's next move after Nancy Pelosi left Taiwan. The best thing for Taiwan and CHINA is to unite as a single CHINA and thus united grow together. The only thing the USA wants is to DIVIDE and WEAKEN by creating conflicts between nations. Now that Nancy Pelosi is gone, Taiwan is left with the problem and uncertainty of how CHINA is going to react against Taiwan.

blockade works 2 ways and from an economy of scale~ the cost to Beijing, if the blockade is extended, will be far greater on Beijing itself than the loss on Taiwan's side; hence even Beijing declare the exercise to be 3 days while their military is kind of exposing their capability to every other military watching this from afar. There are also gaps between the 6 blockade points so it's unlikely any foreign cargo ship will be shot down since the cost of the region's export will also skyrocket, cease or face a reduction in which the volume that'll affect Beijing's port kind of far exceeds the total trade of Taiwan's. So this temporary and not complete blockade seems to be designed for Beijing's internal media than being a message sent outwardly.

Perhaps things have changed but I think this is different from Ukraine in that the USA has treaties AND forces already there. Also, China might win BUT only because the USA and Taiwan would run out of missiles. Chinese loses would be horrific. I don't believe all the hype about Chinese military tech. Look at what happened to Russia in Ukraine. Russia learned the hard way that their tech isn't up to speed.

We all know how much science & technology have changed our physical world for the better since the industrial revolution, but human instinct remains the same for thousands of years. African villagers fight and kill each other because of water and pasture; advanced countries build nuclear warheads to annihilate other human beings by the millions for very similar reason - domination and control of resources . We learned how to put a man on the moon, but sadly we haven’t learned how to share available resources in a peaceful manner and help each other. We’re still primitive tribes at heart.

Although some people claimed the civil war between CCP and KMT was ended around 1949, both parties did continue claim they will re-unify the country after KMT lost and retreated to Taiwan (ROC). Obviously Taiwan is completely dismissed the idea of retake mainland China once they aware their military might will never deliver her dream but CCP in mainland China never loose their sight in unification. Government in Taiwan will never give up their power in Taiwan (all politicians are power hungry), so mainland China will never able to unify mainland and Taiwan in peaceful way. The re-ignition of civil war between these two parties is inevitable as long as mainland China not give up their dream in unification. Personally, I do not see today is the right time for mainland China to start the military actions. As long as mainland China keep their corruption in check and maintaining its momentum in both economic development and army modernisation, give mainland China another five to eight years, they will have the ability to decide what to do with Taiwan and there is no business to the USA and her allies in Asia. Did anyone aware the current country name for Taiwan is ROC (Republic of China), not Taiwan? Is it some degree of sarcasm for those people in Taiwan who declared themselves have no link to China with such name on their passport. To erase this trait, the current Taiwan administration changed their passport design by removed the English words (Republic of China) but still keep the Chinese version of the name (ROC) in the cover of their passport.

Taiwanese here. Most people these days don't want to be the "real" China. We just want to be Taiwan. Let China be China. The reason we haven't gotten around to change the official name of the country is because 1. It doesn't affect our daily lives. Don't want to bother too much with it. 2. There is small but still significant minority, usually older generation, holding on to that Chinese heritage, waiting to one day reunify China under a democratic banner. 3. China threatens us with military forces not to change the name, viewing it as a way to further distance us from being "Chinese" or outright declaring independence.

No matter how much noise make under the umbrella of "Democracy" by US government and her allies, they will only interest on their gains and loss. They will never give free lunch to Taiwan and not bothering what suffer the Taiwanese will have. They will only bring death and destruction to Taiwan, same as what they brought to other countries like Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan...; list just too long to continue and Taiwan might be one of them in the future.

China has more boats in total but not overall carrier fleets like the US has. For a country that has over a billion people it is logical that they could muster a larger modern conventional army. The biggest disparity between China's military rise and the current US military though, is shear experience, global logistics, alliances, backed by still remaining the largest military budget with advanced tech. The US has been active in a multitude of wars consistently since WWII which means constant gains in wartime experience, live trial/error innovation, and global logistics that really just can't be matched. It is inevitable China will eventually become the global economic leader in the next few decades, But, it will take another 1/2 century at least before truly challenge the US military for global supremacy. Hell, India is sitting in shadow and may be the one dark horse here. They are modernizing militarily really quickly as well.

Taiwan (=republic of china) will be the same fate as South Vietnam in the past. I am South Korean, interestingly, in South Korea, South Vietnam was called Free Vietnam and Taiwan was called Free China.

The US always seems to be in the middle of every conflict

The US is the only global superpower and the primary defender of the current world order built around international laws... ofcourse they are involved in most conflicts, they are making sure that world order doesn't collapse or get replaced by a new world order dominated by China or Russia or any number of other bad actors out there. I'm not saying the US is doing it for the good of the world, let's face it, they are as corrupt and greedy as anyone else, but I'd rather live under their world order than under the oppressive regimes they often counter.

It's all rooted in history. The US has come out of WW2 being the most technologically developed country in the world, with the biggest economy, very specifically with the biggest industry, also with the biggest and most powerful military, and relatively undamaged. Any other country of significance in international politics was completely thrashed, after WW2. As a consequence, the US naturally became the political leader of the Western world, who, after having defeated Hitler, found itself threatened by soviet Russia. Russia went bankrupt, the European Western democracies, former empires, were rebuilt, but the US remained the most powerful country in the West. Militarily, it still is years ahead of any other country - after having been devastated by two world wars, European countries are reluctant to the point of irationality to wage war, and therefore, stupidly, don't sufficiently thoroughly prepare for it. Western democracies plus the few developed countries in East Asia (China not being one of them) represent more than half, almost three quarters of the earth's whole economy and military might, despite having a proportionally rather small population. Those countries have an acute interest to see international politics governed by strong international institutions, and the rule of law. Such a world order lets them remain dominant - it fosters economic cooperation and international trade, and, with their developed economies, they can stay ahead of other, less developed countries. Less developed countries feel left out. Rather than walking the long and tedious way of social and economic development, to the point where they become equally developed as Western countries, they wish for a quick overturn of the situation, where the West is no longer dominant in international relations. That's of course stupid, but politics is rarely rational. Few of the less developed countries can really do something about it - but many continuously try. Which makes a certain degree of policing, via peace keeping missions, unavoidable. The US, being the biggest military power in the West, is involved most often, and therefore also gets most of the retaliatory acts of terror. Which starts a devil's circle: the US gets involved in more ample offensive operations, some short, like the invasion of Panama, others long, like the intervention in Afghanistan, all of which leads to even more acts of terror against the US. This forces the US to keep a stronger military and a more widespread military presence on the globe than any other country. And also leads to the US being involved in most conflicts all over the globe.
