I use to own the Original G1 Inferno. And I just found the Commemorative Issue Inferno from Hasbro. He was my favourite figure because of how he transformed. Now I can get him again, along with Takara Tomy Encore Sky Lynx. :)

Great review. Inferno is better on video then how he is in the promotional images. And he's better then those 3rd party masterpieces. His lack of rear tail lights is a bit disappointing, but these days all the figures skip out on them.

This MP version of Inferno is so cool. Love the cartoon accurate parts as oppose to the G1 toy accuracy parts. Hopefully I'll pick him up this guy sooner rather than later. Thanks for reviewing this!!

Actually, that piece for aiding in cradling Red Alert isn't specifically attached to that chestpiece, it can be detached from that one and attached to the other two. The three different chest pieces are actually meant to represent: 1. toy- and real vehicle-accurate, 2. cartoon accurate for when he's in the foreground and drawn properly, and 3. for scenes when he was more in the background, or the animators just didn't drawn in all the detail (the last one is the one you had the cradling piece attached to).

I just got mine today, and he's amazing. Really good figure. My only complaint would be the waist in robot mode. Does it peg into his back somehow and I just missed it? Or is it designed to tilt forward with some light pressure applied? It fits in place, but doesn't tab in. Am I missing a step?

I'd love to see what those effects look like with what I believe is the all around best Inferno... Backdraft. The die cast, chrome, details, and poseability blow the Takara version out of the water.

I have this guy. While he's pretty good, I do have 2 minor gripes, an I can see yours is affected by both issues as well: 1. I wish the waist tabbed in a bit more snugly. It's not bad how it currently is, you can pick him by his upper body and shake him lightly and it will stay tabbed. But it's still a little looser than I'd like it. 2. The panel on his left arm doesn't quite fit. It seems to be caused by the base of his hand, which is bigger than the base of his right hand (the right hand has the smaller base to accommodate his neat hand swapping gimmick). You can try and force it, but any little movement and it won't stay and you see a bit more of a gap as a result. Fortunately, the hinge that the panel is on is pretty tight so it's not much of an issue. That being said, I'm pretty picky and I'm definitely in for his palette swap Grapple.

Well you can at least hear me still lol but you're right, the sound isn't at the place i want it to be. I've been testing out a lapel microphone to address some peoples complaints that that the microphone built into my camera, occasionally, will sound like the audio is coming out of one side more than the other. It's true that it does that because my camera has two channels, a left and right and i move around a lot while talking. So the audio will fade from one side to the other as the microphone picks up the audio on the left or right side of the camera, depending on the location of my head at the time of filming. I've been testing the new microphone and i don't like how it sounds either. I've tried attaching it to different parts but it still just doesn't sound very good to me. Sorry about that. I am continuing to try and improve and better my production quality. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm sorry about that

David Wishart First, i don't like backgrounds. Keeping mine clean and clear allows you to focus on the toy itself (or my hands as some people do lol). Also, i have talked about this time and time again...i cannot change the background. It is a frosted piece of plexiglass that is apart of the actual review table itself. It's kind of like a light box. There are lights directly behind the "ground" and "back wall". The frosted piece of plexiglass allows the light to travel through and diffuses it. Using a different color background wouldn't let the light pass through it at all.

The actual truck of this vintage would have FUSO written between the turnsignals, with a small mitsubishi emblem right in the middle of the autobot logo's forehead. FUSO is Mitsubishi's truck subdivision.

I think Takara has been getting some criticism with recent Masterpiece releases because they are no longer making figures with a fusion of cartoon accuracy and G1 toy accuracy and detail. Comparing MP-10 Optimus Prime with Inferno and you can see that back then, Takara went the extra mile to not only make Optimus look like he did in the cartoon but also look realistic and have details that don't just make it look like he's from a plain dull cartoon. I don't personally collect Masterpiece figures but I do think Inferno here looks like a great cartoon representation. I think where some people prefer other 3rd party offerings is when they don't want just a cartoon representation of the character but a blending of cartoon and real world detail. Takara puts out some great figures and it is hard to accommodate every collectors tastes but I think if they continue to only produce cartoon accurate figures they'll lose some of their customers to 3rd party companies. Fantastic review though Optibotimus. You're working hard to get us reviews as fast as possible and we appreciate it!

I think sometimes Paul over does the cheesy broadcaster voice. The Stone Philips voice. The voice goes high mid sentence and lowers the voice to emphasize the last two syllables of the sentence. He does it all the time.

I wish i could agree, but the Firetruck is too small. Compare Sideswipe to inferno in vehicle mode. The Lambo is more than half the length of the fire truck. I know there is anime magic, but the firetruck is bit too small. Takara could not engineer how to hide the mass of a bigger firetruck, so Infernus would be smaller than Optimus in bot mode. The Datsuns are slightly wider than the fire truck, from the images i see on the web. Just compare the size of the sports cars doors, to the firetruck's doors. I would not mind it if Inferno was taller than Optimus in bot mode. I blame the animators and Takara's ultimate commitment to favor animation bot scales vs real scale vehicles.. I love Infernus' fun level, and brilliant engineering. I think it is a must have for any transformers collector. Vehicle scale is big a big deal to me, but at least it scales in bot mode with the rest. Thanks for the review Optibotimus!

Inferno is wayy to small in vehicle mode compared to Optimus and Ironhide in my opinion. EDIT: Actually, it's Ironhide. Ironhide is too big. Ironhide should be up to the bottom of Optimus' windshield according to the scale chart, and his van mode does seem a bit too large compared to the others. Inferno is actually perfectly in scale.

These design asthetics are not too drastic from each other. Sure, kibble free bots like Bumblebee or Hot Rod might, but this isn't like going from DOTM designs where car parts are still visible to AOE designs where there is little to no hints of any transformation.

Quantum Surge I wouldn't say it looks "unfinished," but when he's placed next to the other Masterpiece Autobots that do have that chrome detail, Inferno does look a bit (for a lack of a better word) cheap if he has his cartoon accurate chest piece on.

hah hah, baby carrier on inferno hah hah hah I can go all day talking about the sudden change in direction of MP line to be slavishly cartoon but will skip that. I'm more miffed that they decided to put accessories storage in robot mode but no weapon storage in robot mode. That's one place 3P have consistently done better IMO.
