I REALLY wish Shepherd made a sarcastic comment when the Turian council member made the statement 'WE WILL TAKE ACTION!'. Something like, 'Like you took action when I told you Sovereign was threat? Or maybe like you took action when Saren was threat? If that's the level of 'ACTION' I can expect from you then I really have nothing to worry about."

I can genuinely never save the council in mass effect 1, it's not even because of stuff like this (although it certainly helps) it's because it doesn't make sense, sovereign is a threat to the entire galaxy, of course you'd concentrate on him. Saving the council is about thinking in the long term. You show humanity in a very good light, saving the Ascension and it's 10,000 man crew, plus the council. As such, the citadel races stop seeing humanity in the light they used to. If you don't save the council, you end up establishing either a very unpopular government (Anderson) or a straight dictatorship (Udina.) But you do save a good chunk of the Alliance fleet. It's all about point of view.

@@rena8215 I'm pretty sure if any of us were facing a threat like the reapers, we wouldn't be thinking " it's probably a good idea to waste ships saving the council who got us here in the first place putting all advanced civilizations in danger" You're talking from the perspective of someone who has played the games, but in the moment, you have to think that saving the destiny ascension could mean not being able to destroy sovereign
@d.pedroii2940

I think I'm the only Mass Effect player that considers the council reasonable, everyone else seems to love playing edgy antihero with them. They're attempting to represent billions of lives in massively complex inter-species and inter-system diplomatic web with vastly diverse goals and interests. Playing ball with them gives you all the autonomy you need with the added support of their approval. So what if they're initially slow to trust you? You're ranting about a vision you received around the same time you got a bump on the head when an exceedingly rare artifact exploded when you got close to it. Also in ME1 Cerberus are encountered as radical terrorists so the fact that the council is even open to a compromise is extraordinary.

What pisses me off more is the clearly evident gaslighting. In Mass Effect 3 citadel dlc when you enter the Citadel Archives talking about the Battle of the Citadel the archives mention how they know Soverigen was a Reaper. Even if those archives were changed after the invasion, they still treat Shepard like a psycho when Shepard is consistently correct and only until the third game do they finally awknowledge that Shepard has been correct before and they never trusted him. I get needing to not instantly trust Shepard, because the idea of every 50k years the galaxy is purged by killer robots is wacky, but fuck dude they dont need to be dicks about it all the time
@ksingh66

Well, in mass effect 3, the council very much has intel on the reapers after Sovereign’s attack. The Council SUCKS because they fully know Shepherd is right. It’s one thing to deny to the public to avoid worrying the public, but this was a conversation behind closed doors where everyone knew what was happening. There was no reason for them to keep stonewalling shepherd and denying the reapers when it’s just them talking to Shepherd. I don’t know what the Council was smoking, but it wasn’t reasonable at all. Reasonable would be “we know you’re right and we can’t take any massive measures, but we will do what we can.” The council is just straight up saying “you’re wrong they don’t exist” to the ONE guy they can be honest with.

Here's an easy rebuttal: the Salarians had footage of a Reaper 20 years prior to Shepard even showing up, potentially even LADAR pings showing it's silhouette and when Shepard arrives saying Sovereign is a Reaper on Virmire, the Salarian Councilor *specifically* is the one who says the information "might not be accurate". So there's plenty of reasons to call them f*cking stupid...

I let them die everytime I played solely because of their response to Saren. They disavowed him and cut ties but at that point it was less of "dealing with him" and more of "covering their own ass". At that point the dude was proven to have influence over the Geth, had a MASSIVE "spaceship", and insane resources. So you have this former agent of the council building and army and a doomsday weapon, and their only response is "he's not in the club anymore, so it's someone elses problem." I see their deaths as freeing up positions for more competent members. Cherry ontop? Even after you save these guys they STILL play hardball with Shepard. I disagree with 90% of fans here. Given the impossible scenario at play, the total lack of any available evidence to suggest the Reapers are at all a possible threat (why would soldiers not have a bodycam in the 2100s?), and given Shepard is aligning with a known terrorist organization known for espionage, sabotage, theft, torture, murder, and dangerous experiments involving rachni, biotics, and Reaper/Prothean tech, the Council, based on the data available to them, is still being as charitable as they can possibly be at this moment. I genuinely accept their reinstatement and consider it evidence that they still take me seriously even if they don't believe my claims.

The Citadel Council have gotta be the most useless characters in the entire trilogy. They ignore Shepard’s warnings for three entire games despite him having sufficient evidence to support his claims and then when the Reapers come knocking at their door they crawl to you for help. It’s astonishing that they’ve lasted as long as they have in their positions despite being largely incompetent. No wonder they give Spectres the authority to act on their own, because if Spectre agents waited for the Council to make a decision before they act, nothing would ever get done. Just absolutely useless. Really the Destiny Ascension is the only reason to save them in ME1, that and for the sake of Paragon roleplay.
