Good to hear the discussion of "frames" in guard positions; this is really useful terminology that's often not mentioned in Karate classes.
@KARATEbyJesse4 жыл бұрын
Kata is literally a collection of frames! 😜💪 This is one of the topics that I’ll be teaching at my classes for KNX20 in August

frames has been discussed a lot in my BJJ classes when we roll, so I wonder if there is a connection here. hahaha

Is it my imagination or is something like a frame in the pinan kata series?
@AlexEinherjar4 жыл бұрын
Now that was really interesting. I'm currently reforming my curriculum as a Krav Maga instructor and I find it very interesting that you and Oliver broke down the situation into 3 phases and gave answers for all of them. That's pretty useful because one thing that happens a lot in class, aside from the several "What ifs?" questions, is the question for when the counter-measure you're applying doesn't work. I'll take all of this into consideration while doing my reflections.

I just learned more from this video about dominant position and takedown defense/reaction than i have learned in years of bjj. I am blown away by the defense here. Top notch. No wonder your brother is 9-2. footwork is king and it is not mentioned enough in your standard BJJ class unless you specifically ask a higher belt.

Respect, i like if its methodical. Iam working as a selfdefense teacher in the special forces and i realize the technique is not the most important thing, its the methodical way to find solutions. And people are more working witch pictures in their head, not only with words. Its very good to link new experience with that what you already know. (you said, this frame is very similar to Karate). There is so much to speak. But all in all, very good video. You and your brother are very homogeneous and authentic. Big respect. Go on....

Perfect technical terminology. Once I actually got tossed just like that by a guy with judo experience, it wasn't nice. Also anybody notice at the beginning Jesse (automatically ) went in a linear sideways stance while Oliver went into a more square stance?

Hi Jesse Sensei! I do karate and created my own martial arts & self-defense activity at my school, to protect ourselves and others in dangerous situations. I had a dream that you came to our place and agreed to be our coach and I was so happy! But then I woke up and realized the cruel reality that you are not my coach and my club activity is shutdown because of the situation right now. 😭

Thanks for the lesson. Good points about the 90 degrees frame (and applicable to “Shuto Uke”) controlling the head, sprawling, and the tight waist (a new one for me). I favor the waist grab (almost in a horse stace from his side) then trip him with my leg. Also a necktie/ single leg takedown; but this defense would make that very difficult.

Underhooks and hips. If people can learn those two aspects of takedown defense, they'd be golden. I mean, there's more to it in wrestling, but those two are the most important. In wrestling, you have your head, your hands, elbows, shoulders, etc. I'm very drunk. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, because my explaining skills are gone.

Even before MMA, the majority of bar fights I got into or witnessed at some point someone charged in with kind of football tackle, hoping to set up a gound and pound. It usually ended in a headlock of the attacker and a long stalemate on the ground. I used to imagine countering with a knee to the face as they charge in. What do you think about that?

@royfellows54682 жыл бұрын
I have been studying this type of attack lately and watching this video, which is very good, but i see many opportunities for bringing the knee up into an attackers face, Heian Yondan style, or very decisive elbow strikes to the vulnerable points of the attackers head, or attacking the opponents eyes. Thoughts?
