My issue is if you have a mounting solution and upgrade. Then you need to purchase the Asetek solution. And if you ever change, you need another front mounting plate or solution. The ecosystem looks good from a 3rd party wheel solution. Not really liking the Asetek wheel. For $600+ I need the wheel to eliminate plastic, same on the wheelbase. Overall great start and what's coming I know will be top notch. For my money, going with VRS. Better value across the board and won't need to get new mounting plates. Still exciting times to be in sim racing. So much coming. Good job Cam and Asetek.

@@EikeSky ive never seen asetek mention that you could get invicta performance out of a la prima... they did say you could make the la prima a forte which would indicate the la prima must be using the same motor as the forte with the same slew rate but obviously detuned by the PCB... the invicta is a different motor entirely i believe since the slew rate is far higher, and the slew rate is mechanical, it cant be changed with electronics. also if you check the specs and description on the asetek website they state the la prima can be upgraded to forte spec only, no mention of invicta which would make perfect sense to me.

If you've bought into Simucube already then my advice would be to stick with it for the time being and see how the Asetek stuff pans out in terms of ecosystem and, more importantly, reliability. It's not like the Simucube just suddenly became crap overnight because a wheelbase with subjectively slightly more feeling came onto the market, and you don't know how Simucube are going to respond in terms of FW and SW updates, and it's these that are mostly responsible for the feel of the wheelbase. Personally I've always felt that the SC2 bases are a bit too polite and a bit too smooth, but I'm not going to rush out and buy the Asetek stuff until the dust settles and we can get feedback from customers and not just "Simfluencers" - no disrespect at all to any of them, but they do tend to get their kit for free.

@@slaphead90 it's not like I needed another wheelbase though is it? If it wasn't better (in my opinion) than the SC2 Pro I've been running I'd have put that back on. I have every faith in Asetek and their products, but you're right, just wait If you own the SC2 Pro already if you're uncertain. 👍

@@davecamm It's very easy for you to say that you're ditching the old in favour of the new because you get sent this stuff for free a lot of the time. I've nothing against that at all, but bear in mind that the rest of us need to factor in spending a couple of thousand for what, at the end of the day, might be just a very slight improvement depending on your usage case. I can afford it, but as the SC2 is already performing for me, despite some minor complaints, I see no real reason to "upgrade" until such a time as the Asetek ecosystem has matured and we see real world feedback in terms of reliability and customer support.

Partly agree. I own the Forte base and have some points that are frustrating me: 1. Why does the wheel base go to "standby" after a few minutes? This is unnecessary and annoys me every time I drive off and then realize that I no longer have FFB. I've already lost a race as a result. 2. The blinking of the LEDs on the steering wheel is too playful. This makes the whole thing look like a toy. If I leave the sim, the rainbow effect starts. If I start an application that is not recognized by RaceHub, then my color scheme is not applied. Why not just configure the steering wheel's LEDs to have a fixed color scheme that stays that way. 3. Unfortunately, RaceHub also needs a lot of CPU time in the background. On my system (24 cores) RaceHub needs about 2 to 3% in standby. That doesn't sound like a lot, but calculated on one core it's already about 50% CPU. I'm a professional software developer myself (programming real-time controls and user interfaces for industrial applications) and I can say that Asetek definitely has some work to do. Overall everything feels a little "beta". Please do not get this wrong. The FFB of the base is fantastic. The steering wheel itself feels great too (my opinion). The problems I have are all related to the software.

The Asetek direct drive bases are made in partnership with Granite Devices so they have the same electronics. I don't think Asetek is more responsive than Simucube imo . Simucube 2 Pro has has 8 Nm/ms slew rate btw not 6.2 .
@jinx20001
@jinx20001 Жыл бұрын
They didn't partner with granite, They purchased intellectual property, the right to use basically everything granite created with simucube from hardware schematics to software programming. the result of which is Asetek are aloud to use the simucube QR design and expand upon it which they have... a lot of the software is very familiar to what simucube offers they just blatantly renamed some sliders, corner force assist is blatantly simucubes static force reduction, anti oscillation is blatantly simucubes ultra low latency which is specifically designed to reduce oscillation etc. They really did put that IP to good use and took everything good about simucubes and rolled with it BUT im pretty sure it wasnt what you would call a partnership, asetek was essentially a customer after the acquisition given the right to use what they like to springboard the project much faster. I do think it works in simucubes favour for Asetek to be successful as they now own shares within Asetek. The motors used by both companies are completely different aswell, Asetek using a custom specced mige motor and simucube developing their own in house i believe so when measuring the slew rates they would have likely been done under different conditions and under the conditions Asetek chose the simucube 2 pro could well have registered an average 6.3 and the mige motor could have achieved 9.4 which would explain why it feels far snappier, who knows under the conditions simucube tested the mige motor might achieve 12nm/ms and the simucube 2 pro 8.

Can you think of a situation where a sim racer would need that much power? Im fairly new to sim racing, currently own a csl dd but want to upgrade to the Asetek wheel/base and pedals. I’m thinking the forte line but is there a good reason to go for the invicta? (So maybe 3 questions 😅)

if you want to buy the asetek hardware i would recommend buying it from pure sims which is in the UK, i have purchased from them before and they are pretty damn excellent, and ofcourse being in the uk there is no import duties to worry about. i ordered an invicta from them yesterday and they expect them in march sometime as its currently on pre order. the invicta wheelbase and forte wheel comes in at around £1800 but if you install honey into your browser that will find a discount code for you dropping the price by about £45, not much but its something. If you buy direct from asetek the shipping costs are astronomically high.

@BallisticTech Жыл бұрын
@@StatsGam4er This seems like standard practice to me. A company needs to measure/benchmark their product and compare with a competitor. They have access to their product, the competitor's product and their own testing equipment/methodology. They test both their product and the competitor as similarly as possible.... They don't have access to the competitor's exact testing set up... They can't just take their competitor's word for it especially not knowing their specific testing setup and methodology If you believe they are being disingenuous in their testing that's one thing. But this is what happens with nearly all consumer electronics. NVIDIA doesn't take AMD's slides and then run their own test and post them. They test both on their own machines and report those numbers. TVs, Mice, Phones, etc... All these companies are doing this. Some have 3rd party reviewers that can independently test their claims. If anyone thinks either company is not accurate they can simply buy both products and set up their own well controlled independent test and report back their findings to the masses. EXCEPT... that's not a trivial thing to accomplish. Asking Dave to do so is pretty ridiculous. He doesn't even consider this a review. Nor himself a reviewer. He states that ALL THE TIME. Including the beginning of THIS video. This type of measurement is not easy to repeatedly take. It's likely that the set up between Simucube's measurements and Asetek's are different. There's so much variance in how you measure something like Torque slew rate, it can easily account for the differences in measurements. Are they measuring from -10NM to 10NM? Or 0 to 20NM. Are they measuring static starts or while already moving? I'm not kinematics expert but coming at Dave for just trying to use products and give his experience is bad form IMO. Go shout at Simucube and Asetek and tell them you don't want to buy any of their products until they agree upon a standard test and put all their products head-to-head. I'd love to see that. But I'm not holding my breath

Asetek has the code from Simucube 2 and they literally copy pasted it and changed some things, and it's not fair to compare the slew rate using their own formula when they can tune them to win for that specific formula, that has been a hot topic with gpus and benchmark software like 3d mark where the brands would optimize their gpus for those specific benchmarks, and it literally shows how low can Asetek go. The numbers don't always matter much, the peak of the Simucube 2 Ultimate motor is 70Nm but it's limited to 32Nm, the Simagic Alpha Mini is 10Nm but people tested it and it achieved 13Nm, Thrustmaster don't even say what's the peak torque for their DD and there is no way to know how accurate are the numbers that each company advertises without having someone independent to test them.
@davecamm
@davecamm Жыл бұрын
That may be the case, but in my opinion the product is better than the SC2 I've been using. You could also argue that the 8nm/ms quoted by Simucube was done with their own testing. Asetek wouldn't just fire random numbers out there if they couldn't show their wheelbase was more responsive. I'm not a fanboy of Asetek btw. I'm a fan of products which are better than the ones I'm using and that will always be the case.
@jinx20001
@jinx20001 Жыл бұрын
The peak and continuous torque is not relevant simply because DD motors are generally strong enough no human will be able to hold them at peak torque long enough for them to throttle... every single DD motor out there can handle more torque than they are rated at, what company will release a motor for public use absolutely capped to its max? it wont happen, so yes the simucube 2 ultimate could be capable of 70nm (yes im part of the simucube forum too :) ), perhaps the Asetek motor could be aswell, perhaps the thrustmaster motor could handle 30nm... obviously they are designed to run efficiently and reliably and are set where the manufacturer decides it can do that without ever failing. If Asetek literally copy and pasted the simucube software why the hell would that be a bad thing... sounds to me like the very best start a manufacturer could have, its an extremely smart acquisition lets be honest, have your starting point be arguably the very best and go forward from there, its genius. I dont know why simucube owners get so upset that something could possibly come around that does things better, I am a simucube 2 pro owner so it stings a little but ive had my eye on Asetek for a long while now, why? because they did exactly the right thing in purchasing IP from what in my opinion was the best in this game. They took the SQR which i think is the best QR ive ever felt and made it better, its unquestionable, how can any simucube owner not admit that taking the simucube QR and somehow adding power to it is not a genius move? Then they used the knowledge of granite devices along with some code to ensure they have at least the same if not better software, again how can any simucube owner sit there and honestly say that offering basically the same settings as true drive while expanding it to control EVERYTHING else on your rig from pedals to LEDs etc... how is that not just EXACTLY what we wish true drive did?? Lets just be honest with ourselves, the simucube is brilliant, the software is brilliant but Asetek seem to have gone in and improved it EXACTLY where we all knew it needed improving, granite devices have tried to keep up they really have, it wasn't long ago they only could use wheels wireless with 28 inputs, now they have wheels capable of up to 96 inputs with a newly released bluetooth module in some wheels, see the ascher f64 v3 for example... is it enough? nope, there is still no power delivery for wheels using a display for example... its falling behind and thats just the way it is and im ready to accept that. Asetek have even cut deals with big third party manufacturers so they offer wheels that work natively with Asetek hardware, thats one of the biggest moves the industry has seen, it essentially makes every wheel from cube, gsi and many other big boys in the market an official Asetek wheel, thats crazy. Is the Asetek perfect, absolutely not in my opinion, im very worried about certain aspects, it uses a slip ring to deliver power, i dont like that, by design its a part of the wheelbase that does wear over time, how much time is anyone's guess, a long time for sure but i HATE that aspect of it, I dont like the plastic front and rear, i dont like that it appears larger than the simucube bases etc. I think we just have to accept that its ok for something to come along that is as good or better in certain aspects... im ok with it, ive ordered one...
