I deleted TikTok two years ago because it felt really disorienting for my emotions. I occasionally watch IG reels which feels a bit 'slower' and less 'jumpy' when it comes to the algorithm but long-form content will always be my favourite. I feel a sense of predictability watching content from people that I intentionally choose to follow instead of watching random content from literally anyone. I don't allow just anyone into my personal life so why would I feel comfortable letting in random content too? I truly believe that we are going to see a shift to curated, niche social media platforms in the future.

Totally agree with this, and great point on the predictability !! I want to watch a few videos while I’m getting ready, like I’m keeping up with friends or watching a fave tv show, and not be feeling like I’m twitching out and getting yelled at every 3 seconds 😂😅

I rarely comment, but your talk about being overwhelmed with the internet and TikTok in particular resonates so much with me. For me it’s the constant need for improvement that’s being sold to us. Better health, more wellness, more working on our minds, eating habits…. It never stops. It’s so exhausting and makes me just feel bad about myself, because we can always eat better, sleep better, work out more etc. but that’s just not life. I feel like I need to delete TikTok for some time. I love KZbin the most, long form content in form of vlogs is my comfort program, but so many creators are not doing that anymore. Also, the bright lipstick looks soooooo good on you, wow!!!! ❤

This conversation was so nice. I’ve been feeling the same - there’s the weird rule that whatever someone else is doing is wrong. Or they can’t have an opinion. Or their clothes are outdated. Etc. So much unwanted hate and opinions, there’s so much noise that makes you feel like you’re not doing or being good enough. I appreciate these talks!

The health-nutrition space is absolutely bananas, specially online. What you comment on is very real, so much so that people are now creating videos making fun of the 25.000 (contradictory) things you "should" and "should not" do every day. I found that very reassuring. It's clearly getting too much when there are memes on sth 😂 Yes to a life beyond the Internet and yes to lovely feel good content, too ❤

First time commenter long time watcher. As a 28 year old, this is why I have never bought into TikTok. It just sounds draining lol. Plus I realise I've begun to watch more VLOG content on KZbin than anything else because if I require health, fitness or otherwise advice I will go out into the real world and seek that knowledge from someone who 1. Can ask me questions to personalise their feedback and 2. Has a degree to give me such information, not second hand info they heard about. 3. There is so much information for and against ANY singular topic. You could find arguments for why the earth is flat even though we know for a fact it is in deed round. My social media is now 1. Family 2. Friends 3.People outside of the 2 realms that dont make me feel envious, jealous or bad about myself (you fall into this category). So keep doing you because I am so here for it :)))

For me, it's the act of getting wet. Going from dry to wet. Once I'm in the shower, it's fairly pleasant, but man, do I procrastinate. 100% prefer a bath. Maybe it's an 'intention' thing? When I take a bath, I light candles, play spa music, etc, and look forward to the whole experience. But when I shower, it's because I just am required to clean my body.

I totally resonate with craving "quiet" in my life and personally I have to be very intentional with how I consume social media. I highly encourage a weekly "fast" or "sabbath" from social media and phones. Even if it's every Friday night or even a full weekend day, or even a few hours in the morning, I think it's a good mental reset. Sometimes we don't realize how addicted we are or how much restlessness it's creating until we take it away.

The difference between you putting links in your bio and these tictokers is that you tell us freely what products are in your video and the links are there as a shortcut if we want to use them but you don't withhold the information to make sure we have to use them. Sick of watching a video and the person breaks their neck trying to make sure we don't see a hint of the name to make sure we go to the affiliate link.

Problem is, that TikTok is part of the problem. Short-Form Content is become a problem for our brains in general. It‘s a constant 60 second stimulus and it overwhelms. I stoped watching TikTok, stoped watching YT Shorts and I‘m not watching Reels. I keep to long form content and that is less stressful on the brain and if I need something researched in Video form, one will find a qualified person that made an in dept long form podcast or video on it which is way better and way educational.

Deleted Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook in August 2023 and it’s hard at first but so worth it. There’s def a withdrawal/adjustment period esp after having them for over a decade but it’s just fomo and finding new ways to occupy your time. KZbin feels like I’m watching TV so I keep it but you do you. Without the others I feel so much less anxiety, depression, and low self esteem. I’m not easily overwhelmed anymore and it’s also easier to self regulate. Loving not caring about others opinions or feeling like I have to fit in/be relevant. It’s a valuable shift in perspective and it’s wild how much useless information used to consume my thoughts.

It’s funny, I’ve really noticed a lot lately this zeitgeist of people talking more about the particular overwhelm of social media, the firehose of information and opinions we subject ourselves to. Not just the time wasting aspect of our addiction to our phones and social media, but very particularly about the mental fatigue of it. I had this conversation with someone recently, how before social media you would so rarely even get into a conversation with someone where you got to know their deeply held beliefs or strong opinions about something, but now every day we open a social media app and in a matter of minutes we’ve absorbed dozens, hundreds! I don’t think our minds or nervous systems were meant to keep up with absorbing that much information, or emotional energy. We’re all kind of slowly, collectively waking up to not just the fact that our phone addictions are harmful, but the why of it! Something’s in the air for sure…. It’s not just you!

I don’t think I have ever seen your sisters, you all are beautiful. I used to be on IG, and I absolutely love that forum, however I had decided to take a 30 day break which has now become 2 years 😮. I absolutely miss it, and at times have felt I am missing out. I just couldn’t keep up anymore, it was a time suck. Stories expire and I had to watch everything. On that note, how in the world are people watching w/o sound ?!?! Or at least w/ captions. That’s where the meat is! Just b/ c it is your job, doesn’t mean you have the time to answer questions that are literally in your posts. I now am only on YT, more controllable for me. Still information overload of all the “things I should be doing” and buying of course. Also, quite helpful in gaining information and tips. Great job on the cake! I thought it was hilarious the negative comments on the mask that you used, it must be working to keep using it 🤣.

“Eggs are killing you!” < “I put on a bolt lip and I curled my hair” 👌🏻🥰 I had to delete TikTok from my Home Screen and I’ve felt soo much less anxiety since. Our reptilian brains are not meant to consume that much content.

So Michelle Wang has a great new years video about SMART goals that really helped me understand the difference between wanting to change something and actually executing said change. I highly recommend you watch and make a SMART goal for yourself for phone time & phone-in-bedroom. Big hugs!

Ive been on such a bland food plan and I got the pura vita veggies and they’re TOO SALTY for me now 😭😭 Also, yes we are all suffering from the absolutes on the internet. I feel like I can’t breathe without being unhealthy or exposing myself to toxic chemicals.

I’ve noticed a lot of the “hormone advice” is pulled directly from advice for people w/ PCOS and applied to the masses. As someone with PCOS, it’s very strange to see. One size does not fit all and anyone who hasn’t developed PCOS probably doesn’t need to be worried about that stuff 😅

Lentils shouldn’t take too long to cook… maybe black lentils to… but brown, green, red, and yellow… 20 min max… for your beans soak them over night! They’ll cook much faster!

I totally agree. My vice is KZbin. I stay up too late watching videos, mostly animal videos, so I wake up tired and skip my workout and struggle all day. I’m my own worst enemy. Tech addiction is very real and it’s definitely impacting our health and relationships. I keep telling myself “just do it” but yet it’s so difficult changing these habits. But I MUST take control and conquer this because I absolutely do not want to lose my life to scrolling and staring at a screen. I recently saw that current day 18 year olds are on track to spend 93% of their available spare time on their phones. That is such a tragedy.

Ahh I am a qualified nutritionist and I can tell you that if someone is speaking in absolutes- they are not qualified! Coffee in the morning? Yes please. Protein? In regular intervals throughout the day, not necessarily within 30 minutes of waking up or working out. Nutrition is not an exact science so there are very little absolutes. Keep doing what makes you feel good, you are doing incredible!

Was late to the game on TikTok and put it off, and heard of how much it was depleting people's life. I've honestly gone back to youtube because it's calming and sooo much more conversational.

The problem nowadays is people make it too complicated. Work out how much you want, eat what you want to an extent and to your hunger and live life. Drink your coffee when you feel like it. Like Jeeze lol Enough with these proteins, macros, calories, lalalala.

I hear this narrative more and more from TikTok content viewers. I've never used TikTok and the more that people obsessively talk about it as the be all end all of life, the more certain I am that I don't ever want to be in that space. There's something about the rapid pace of TikTok that I think is terrible for the rhythm of how you live your life. That quick, short form content isn't great for your mental state. I find it gives me major anxiety when I can hear my partner scrolling on there, its overwhelming and I'm not even doing it. IMO I hope that you're able to pull yourself away from your socials and content if you can. You will feel so much better when you're not on your phone - trust me :) Keep working on it girl!

I hit that breaking point with my phone in January 2023. My husband and I both switched to the Light phone II, and got rid of our iPhones. It was the best decision we made. A lot of people who have the light phone keep their smart phone and just put the SIM card in their light phone, and switch it to the smart phone when needed. You can listen to music and podcasts on the light phone so you could keep your phone in your room and listen to ASMR for sleep. It’s nice because it forces me to take time off of the internet, and I can just grab my iPad when I want a smart device. I hope you find a solution that works for you❤

These are the videos that I'm grateful to have a job that is not online. I'm a teacher in Australia so I get to hang out with 7 year olds who have been risen by parents who don't want their kids addicted to screens (I know right!?) And I guess when I gethome yeah I have my screen time but I get on with dinner, hang out with my partner and we watch shows or hang out doing something else, he plays soccer twice a week, I go to gym in the mornings. We go for walks. Our week is so busy with work (both teachers) that on weekends we spend with friends. I'm not saying that my life is superior because I have a job like this but I'm currently have a day off (lost my voice that is taylor swift concert haha) and all I've done is scroll! It's so easy at home on the couch or bed. Finding the balance is easy but Lana knowing you feel the same way too about the internet is heart-warming! Much love.

I block anyone who doesn't have credentials to advice people on the internet esp TikTok. Just because someone sounds convincing doesn't mean they're valid and even if they are, that only applies to them since they're not an expert or have the education to provide advice for others. Your body works in harmony and as a chemist I always tell people just because one thing sounds bad on its own, you don't know how it works with other things and vice versa. Table salt is sodium chloride, each one of those chemicals is terrible on its own but together they're essential for us to survive and that goes for so many things. There is so much misinformation its painful

This is all so true. You are not alone with the overwhelm with the internet and ridiculous amount of information. Just wait until you have children. Then you will see so many things that make you feel guilty and paranoid as a parent. When/if you do have babies, do yourself a favor and don’t go on social media lol or at least try to curate positivity around your life. Anyways, thanks for another great video.

I feel the same way about the internet. I recently limited my instagram screen time because instagram is the one that sucks me in. I don’t have tik tok. So I have cut it to an hour a day. And I’m going to cut it down one minute per day until I get to 30 minutes. So in a month (ish), I will be down to only a half hour per day.

re you talking about selling programs: my problem will never be with people trying to educate, my problem is people always trying to sell something. it never feels genuine and always just seems like a gimmick and a way to get cash. so i would much rather follow someone like you that utilizes links to maybe make a commission on things you love and also share your journey and offer insight on what you have learned and how it has impacted you
