I deleted TikTok two years ago because it felt really disorienting for my emotions. I occasionally watch IG reels which feels a bit 'slower' and less 'jumpy' when it comes to the algorithm but long-form content will always be my favourite. I feel a sense of predictability watching content from people that I intentionally choose to follow instead of watching random content from literally anyone. I don't allow just anyone into my personal life so why would I feel comfortable letting in random content too? I truly believe that we are going to see a shift to curated, niche social media platforms in the future.
@allanaramaa9 ай бұрын
Totally agree with this, and great point on the predictability !! I want to watch a few videos while I’m getting ready, like I’m keeping up with friends or watching a fave tv show, and not be feeling like I’m twitching out and getting yelled at every 3 seconds 😂😅

I rarely comment, but your talk about being overwhelmed with the internet and TikTok in particular resonates so much with me. For me it’s the constant need for improvement that’s being sold to us. Better health, more wellness, more working on our minds, eating habits…. It never stops. It’s so exhausting and makes me just feel bad about myself, because we can always eat better, sleep better, work out more etc. but that’s just not life. I feel like I need to delete TikTok for some time. I love KZbin the most, long form content in form of vlogs is my comfort program, but so many creators are not doing that anymore. Also, the bright lipstick looks soooooo good on you, wow!!!! ❤

I totally resonate with craving "quiet" in my life and personally I have to be very intentional with how I consume social media. I highly encourage a weekly "fast" or "sabbath" from social media and phones. Even if it's every Friday night or even a full weekend day, or even a few hours in the morning, I think it's a good mental reset. Sometimes we don't realize how addicted we are or how much restlessness it's creating until we take it away.

@@NN-zk4uz I don’t think that someone being “an influencer” on the Internet automatically places them that in that category. Allana talks about beauty but definitely doesn’t shove it down your throat, or say that you’re missing something in your life if you don’t do the same thing as her. That’s completely different from people who act like their opinion is the only right way, and if you aren’t doing it, you’re intentionally screwing up your life or just plain lazy.

First time commenter long time watcher. As a 28 year old, this is why I have never bought into TikTok. It just sounds draining lol. Plus I realise I've begun to watch more VLOG content on KZbin than anything else because if I require health, fitness or otherwise advice I will go out into the real world and seek that knowledge from someone who 1. Can ask me questions to personalise their feedback and 2. Has a degree to give me such information, not second hand info they heard about. 3. There is so much information for and against ANY singular topic. You could find arguments for why the earth is flat even though we know for a fact it is in deed round. My social media is now 1. Family 2. Friends 3.People outside of the 2 realms that dont make me feel envious, jealous or bad about myself (you fall into this category). So keep doing you because I am so here for it :)))

It’s so validating to hear you speak on things like this because I feel the same way, but similar to you, my job sort of revolves around me being active on the internet/social media, so it’s definitely a constant balancing act. A couple things I do that would maybe help? 1. I set screen time limits on my phone for certain apps. Basically I just get an alert when I’ve used Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for a cumulative 90 minutes. (I’ve never been on TikTok because I just know it wouldn’t be good for me.) It’s not a hard lock out of the apps, like you can go back into it if you want to, but for me it’s more of a good indication of where my screen time consumption is for the day. 2. I charge my phone at night outside my bedroom. This was a super helpful change for me, as someone who struggles to physically get out of bed in the morning. This way I can’t start work in bed, or start &end my day with doomscrolling.

There’s def a withdrawal/adjustment period esp after having them for over a decade but it’s just fomo and finding new ways to occupy your time. KZbin feels like I’m watching TV so I keep it but you do you. Without the others I feel so much less anxiety, depression, and low self esteem. There is no one size fits all for life. That’s what makes us unique!!! But yeah, we all do the best we can to create the best possible environment for us online, but we can all get sucked in. What’s important is realizing it and taking the steps. I know you mentioned your phone for your asmr, but what about Spotify playlists through hour watch instead?

My husband recently made lentils and they were delicious! Cooked them in seawood water & added a little soya sauce very yum!

Thank you!! The doom scrolling has been affecting me a lot lately. I had a realization when I visited my parents on Vancouver Island when going on a nice walk in nature, that I felt very disconnected from reality for quite some time. It really works to “touch grass” even if it means just walking in your neighbourhood

Hey! How do you do your hair like that with the soft waves? Do you have a video on it? I’ve been following closely for a while but haven’t seen one. Would love to hear your tips!! ❤

I’m going through the same thing about my phone/social media scrolling. On a break and it’s weird but kindof nice. Glad it’s not just me!

Okinawa sweet potatoes are the best thing ever! I planted some in my garden and haven't looked back since!

What you said re: internet really resonates. I dropped all social media (Except KZbin) and it was hard at first because 1) it's addictive and 2) when everyone else exists on these platforms and you don't, it almost feels like you don't exist anymore. In a way, you don't, because your online presence is gone. So yeah, it's been really key for me to place lots of value on everyday life and everyday human interaction even if it's not going on the internet and joining the feedback loop.

Ok curry lentil stew with sweet potatoes is in my meal prep every month, perfect with a grain, topped with some plain or garlic/cucumber yogurt 10/10

My morning routine involves drinking my first cup of coffee (on an empty stomach) in bed while listening to my audiobook. And it really makes me happy.

You need a pressure cooker to make beans! It only takes 15min and you can season it with salted garlic and onions after. Tips from Brazil 😉

So Michelle Wang has a great new years video about SMART goals that really helped me understand the difference between wanting to change something and actually executing said change. I highly recommend you watch and make a SMART goal for yourself for phone time & phone-in-bedroom. Big hugs!

An instant pot (or any pressure cooker) makes cooking dried beans way easier and faster! I love the taste way better than canned but def would not keep up with cooking from dry without the sweet sweet instant pot 🙏

Yes! Ppl speaking as the expert online has been bugging me a lot lately. I have a lot of respect for "internet people", like Ingrid Nilson for example, who have stepped away and spent time figuring out who they are outside of the internet.

Yesss! 100% feel you on internet consumption. I read recently that we consumer on average more information within the first 15 minutes of our day than our grandparents consumer within an entire month (disclaimer: I am not a scientist/statistician & always need to be fact checked 😆). Very wild & eye opening! Loving this bright lip renaissance you’re having. You’ve inspired me to pull all my brights out & give them new life! ❤️

The noise is still there. You are correct. For someone who had health anxiety it’s a loaded gun. You are such an insightful young lady, I appreciate you. The internet is a double edged sword for sure. I have a crafty room and I disappear in there and create. Paint, sew, candle making, soap making. It feeds my soul.
