Lost my marriage, my job, and the life of one of my soldiers all within a week. It proved to be too much for me and I attempted to take my life as a result. But I’m still here and allowed me to clarify my purpose. Staying in the fight

In my mid 40s and I'm at the end of week 8 of rebuilding myself from the ground up. And tuning in and listening to guys like Jocko, Dr. Andrew Huberman, and Chris Williamson, among others, have helped me tremendously. Some days are hard. But there are worst things out there. And I'm learning that hard is good. And good is hard. Live. Love. Learn. Grow. Rinse. Repeat. Keep on rockin'! 🤘

I once lost my job, my girlfriend and I broke up, my band of 7 years broke up AND my best friend moved to another continent all within a few weeks. I went did my first bungee jump. I literally jumped off a bridge BUT in that jump I decided to make it a symbolic death. It actually helped me more that I thought it would. I got my shit correct and moved on

I need to listen to Jocko more often. When you have a bunch of issues going on, it’s hard to stop for a few minutes and just breath and assess. Then grab 1 issue. If it’s the most important one to have to do now, get it done. If it means taking out some small issues first, do it. Sitting/freezing on issues for long periods is no good. Quickly assess and then take action! No…. You may not get everything right, but freezing gets nothing done.

I’m 59 about to be 60, God help me ! My ex wife lives at my house while dating another man, my about to be 17 year old son thinks he’s a grown man and should be making all life decisions on his own, we just put my Mother in assisted living and she hates it, this once sweet woman has become downright mean. Those are just 3 of the litany of things going on, besides the fact I have let myself get terribly out of shape. So I started walking a month ago, up to 5 miles a day, no days off, now and continuing to increase and find I’m feeling better despite no resolution to the problems. Thanks Jocko, moving helps and my mind is clearer, will address problems as best I can, No Factor! Btw discipline = freedom I read daily, such a great tool. Get some, I’m on the path once again!

@@Ryan-co9xc well the explanation of my situation is not spelled out fully for obvious reasons. I have told my ex she has 3 months to move on or I will take legal action, she understands. My son is a naturally aggressive kid, which I’ve taught him to be since he was 3, but he knows how far I will let things go before we have a real problem. Funny thing, he wanted to wrestle around a couple of weeks ago after I posted this, I said ok and within about a minute i had him in a rear naked choke and he tapped. I told him “remember this because it will be a long time before you can do that to me”, he laughed and said I know. Btw my son has a job and doesn’t ask for money, believe it or not I started telling him at 13 he needed to figure out how to make his own money. I do appreciate your comment and I hope you have an awesome day bro!

Having a tough upbringing in a military family, Definitely set the stage for my own military service as a teenager... That's when I left right after school. Several deployments overseas And actually I was never stateside during my 6 years except for in between deployments... You learn a lot. You learned to cope with grief And loss... Pride in professionalism.. Leadership so many things. It's probably a bad thing to say but it's been said before.. I really believe that most people, but perhaps not everyone, would definitely benefit from a couple years military service right out of high school. It teaches you So many things that you just can't go into it here. There's a lot of hard lessons... And honestly I think there's a lot of people that could use that these days. But it also gives you the intestinal Fortitude and determination To drive-through problem areas and difficulties in your life.

I'm working on talking through my problems instead of taking the flight path. I really need to focus on prioritizing and executing so I can work through my emotions instead of choosing to give up. I've always had the mindset of flight from trauma. I've never had the stability to fight but I have had the mindset of saving others lives; I'm on the path of wanting to save my own life just as much as others. Because my life is worth just as much. Would like to point out that dealing with smaller problems successfully first can build up your confidence to tackle larger problems. Also some problems require not doing something but stopping doing something in those cases taking action is so important you can stop doing one thing by starting to do another filling the hole just stopping isn't enough action is important. Jocko is very wise.

I always ask myself the question, "what's going to move the needle?" But that question also implies that you know which gage you are focused. So then I try to prioritize the correct gage meaning if the money gage is low, how do I get movement, if the creative fulfillment is not there, how do I move the needle, and there are so many gages, nutrition, fitness both mental and physical, relationships, skills development, the list goes on and on but they all feed the overall what I call the Master Gage which in the end really is how you feel. If too many gages are low then the master gage needle drops so I make it a point to check all the gages each day to stay out of the red. Hope this makes sense and maybe it helps someone else! GET SOME!

Jocko, sometimes people can't take control of their emotions. It's de-pressing them (de-pression is suppressed emotions, control by mind, drugs etc). eMotions need to run their course, run out of steam/energy and suppressed grief etc is like ticking time*omb (how many millions people are doing this?) Explain what I mean - I was overcome by some emotion, years ago. It was distressing (my colleague was enjoying my state), but then, suddenly I "gave up/in", accepted what I felt and guess what? It left, my system, like baloon flying away.... And it happened again, when my boss enjoying my "worrying", telling me about next day impossible task, I spent worried all evening, but as soon as I gave into it, it never happened. So if people here going through tough times, give it try if all else fail. Because "Worry settles nothing, Just wait for things to mend, Fret not over problems, Life solves them in the end" God joyful day

hey, i’m not Jocko, but that sounds like a good reason to go see a doctor. i’ve had such a problem, although not so severe, and a period of sleeping pills helped me a lot at stabilising a healthy sleeping routine. REALLY relaxing before sleeping helped greatly also (reducing an amount of noises and light, breathing exercises etc.). there’s plenty of information on the internet for such a problem, but my first point is the most helpful and reliable, i suppose. anyways good luck with solving the issue!

Hey there, taking control of your emotions is essential for taking control of your life. Your emotions have the power to influence your thoughts and actions, so it's important to understand and manage them effectively. Don't let your emotions control you, but rather learn to control them. By doing so, you'll be able to make better decisions, handle difficult situations more effectively, and live a more fulfilling life. Remember, you are in control of your emotions, not the other way around.
