Sitting at an elevation of 5200 feet, the Windpass showings were discovered in 1916 by Olive Johnson, T.H. Campbell and Oscar Hargen. During the next couple years, small shipments of high grade ore were taken from shallow workings. The Sweethome vein was discovered and staked in January 1923. Development work to the end of 1924 failed to prove continuity of the ore zones and the property closed. In 1933 the mine reopened. An 2.5 mile aerial tram line was installed between the Windpass workings and the lake, where a 50 ton per day mill was built. Milling began in March 1934. By 1939 the Windpass underground workings consisted of approximately 1500 feet of drifts and cross-cuts in the main 200 level. 2 incline shafts, the Pioneer and Telluride, we’re sunk from the surface to the adit level. An internal shaft was sunk to the 900 level and drifting carried out east and west on each level. The Sweethome vein was developed by a 120 foot inclined shaft at 30 degrees, which connects with a 350 foot crosscut adit and 450 feet of drifts in the foot wall vein. During the mines operation 102,996 tons of ore was milled or shipped from this property. From this ore, 34,456 ounces of gold, 1,718 ounces of silver and 173,959 pounds of copper was recovered.

Thank you both for the awesome videos, it's neat seeing the old mines you go into, something this old out of shape guy could never do, but you two make possible for me to see. As always stay safe, don't over risk anything for content, what you show is awesome.

Ok so listen from 16:57 to 17:20. Specifically at around 17:08 you can hear breathing that is in the middle of Adam talking. Either it is picking up a crazy echo or he definitely had “somebody” with him. Perhaps one of the old miners watching out for him. 😮 Great video guys! Although my heart raced every time the rocks slid.

Thanks for the tour! We were here end of July 2019 and only saw two adits, the lower one in your previous video which had water deeper than my boots and one above it that had deep ice inside for as far as we could see. We never saw any of these stopes that you two dropped into, the ending with the ore bin inside the stope was neat to see! Funny you ran into weather like you did as we also had a storm roll in just as we made it to the lookout on the ridge above. Waited it out and rode down in the sun again :)

Definitely worth another trip up there to get into the top one. That’s the largest one and from the rest we saw, it’ll probably be pretty neat to explore. The ones Adam dropped into were above the main haulage level.

Hi Adam & Chyanne, whoa that was some horrible weather you guys rode through, at least the evening was sunnier. The mines were actually pretty cool, especially the last one you explored. Thank you for sharing, much love to you both. xx ❤
