Almost every small town in Texas has a locally owned hamburger joint that is better than any chain. We have Tio Pedro ( Uncle Peter).

I've never eaten at the Horny Toad to compare it to Alamo Springs Cafe next to Old Tunnel State Park, but I can say that Alamo Springs' burgers are unbelievable & they did make Texas Monthly cover years ago as "The Best Burger in Texas." Next time you're in the Fredericksburg area, go check them out. Old Tunnel Bat Flight & nature trails are worth doing, too. I recommend you go early and pay the small fee to get close to the emergence, but you can also just watch them from above the tree line for free. It's definitely a spectacular sight. Alamo Springs also has live music at times. Bikers love this one, too. The drive to the area is quite lovely.

Of all the times I've driven through Cransfill Gap I've never seen the restaurant. Good find.

That looks amazing. The best places to get burgers are typically small, old style diners. However, one of the best burgers I've ever had anywhere came off an old half-enclosed flat griddle in a bowling alley. Look for small spots, that have lots of vehicles in the parking lot. This place looks amazing, and I'll try it if I'm ever down that way.

Y'all should try LSA Burger in Denton. Make sure to start out with the Brisket Queso! Pretty sure you will love the place. Especially if you love music and great food in a perfect combination. And while you are there walk the Denton square and stop in at Beth Marie's for ice cream...I recommend the Bees Knees flavor (lavender & honey)! Great shops and a wonderful all around Texas must.

Oli, can't remember where you guys live, but if you want a GREAT burger, drive down to Ellinger - it's about an hour+ south of Austin down Hwy 71, about 15 minutes north of Columbus. There's a Bohemian grocery there called Hruska's. If you like pickled ANYTHING, they've got it there, too: cucumbers, squash, quail eggs, veggie mix. And they've got great kolache.

Better drive on down to Walburg, TX for THE BEST burger. Dale’s Essenhaus. No lie. THE BEST. The German restaurant across the road ain’t bad either. Super small town. Used to live there.

Sorry, not that impressive. List of issues. 1. Burger meat too small for the bun. 2. No sloppiness. 3. Bun too thick. 4. Meat was overcooked. YMMV
