What does"cost-effective"mean? anthor question you said that the firm could have quite good coverage without necessarily being convenience so how a frim can have a great outlets that their products are available and at the same time they don't have convenience??

Good question! Imagine a manufacturer of bread had contracts to supply all the major supermarkets. This would mean their product is quite widely available and they've achieved broad coverage of the market. However, a product like bread is one that people often by from smaller, independent convenience stores. You might achieve good coverage selling in supermarkets but you haven't maximised convenience for customers if you're not also available through smaller, local retailers too. Hope that helps.

@@TakingTheBiz thanks a lot for your answer Can l ask about how l can distribute a medical application which will be available on play store e.g ,l think that l don't need any retailers or wholesalers is that true,and if that true that's mean l don't need to make any distribution

Is multi-channel distribution just another way of saying one/ two-level distribution?
@gelz6205

Or is multi-channel distribution using both one and two level for example?
@TakingTheBiz

Multi channel distribution just means that the business uses more than one channel to distribute their products to consumers. For example, if a laptop manufacturer sold directly through their own stores but also directly through their website, then this would be multi-channel. It doesn't have to mean that they use intermediaries, it could mean that they use two different methods of zero channel distribution, like in the example above. Most larger businesses are multi channel distributors.

Okay great, thanks, that makes sense now, how would that benefit a firm? simply just more sales?

Yes. Place strategies are all about making a choice between two C's - Control and Coverage. Selling using just direct methods such as owning your own retail outlets gives a business greater control over how their products are marketed (such as where they are placed in store, the promotions they are in, the price they are sold for). By being a multi channel firm, you might sacrifice some control over the marketing of products if you start to use intermediaries, but you achieve greater coverage by having your products more widely available. This may increase sales, but might also have other benefits, such as greater convenience for consumers.

Do I have to apply the "4 Cs" to everything? This marketing mix and 4 Cs are so confusing. Textbooks love these types of shortcuts and memorization strategies that never work on me because they're so vague and out of context.

It helps when you add them to show your understanding, and sometimes you’ll get a questions asking you to talk about how they are related
