In this episode, Dr. Maitel Ladrido, Dr. Andrei Coronel, and Francesco Amante discuss their experiences in sound design, and how it can be a venue for creativity, and an art form by itself.
Estelle Marie M. Ladrido, Ph.D. is the current executive director of Areté, and an assistant professor of the Department of Communication of the Loyola Schools, Ateneo de Manila University. She received her BA and MA in Communication from Ateneo de Manila and her Ph.D. in Media and Cinema Studies from La Trobe University. She has worked as a producer and writer for television and documentary films.
Andrei Coronel, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor, and currently the Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science. He is a CHED-PCARI Post-Doctorate Scholarship Awardee for UC Berkeley, where he furthered his research on data analytics with UCB's Bioengineering Lab in 2017. He acquired both his Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Ateneo de Manila in 2005 and 2015, respectively, and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Santo Tomas in 1999. Today, he continues his work as a teacher and department chair, while ensuring the growth of his personal passion for sound and music, may it be with his performances as an artist outside the academe, or his scientific endeavors as a researcher in this exciting field.
Francesco Amante is the Lead Sound Designer at AudioBrew, an audio post-production company based in Los Angeles. He completed his MFA in Sound Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has working experience as a recording engineer and sound editor for feature films. He has also done audio post-production work for the Ateneo Laboratory for the Learning Sciences and Arete. Currently, he is a lecturer for Sound Art and Game Audio at the Ateneo de Manila University.
Talakayan is a series that presents how scholarship merges with practice by highlighting innovations, creative solutions, or responses to the complexities, ambiguities, and vulnerabilities we collectively face today. It is produced and shared for the benefit of learners everywhere. Talakayan is available on Arete’s KZbin channel for free.
Talakayan is an Areté Production done in partnership with the Loyola Schools Department of Communication and the Eugenio Lopez Jr. Center for Multimedia Communication.
