My cousin tried out for american idol. She never got to be in front of "the judges", she had to go to a pre-audition. So yeah, the casting directors who left these people through to the judges knew they were bad, but they figured they'd be entertaining. They weren't wrong.

Unfortunately, Ant couldn’t stick on a single key either. If you listen closely (over the laughing and Seb lol), you can hear him fall out of pitch several times and that’s hard to teach. He couldn’t stay on one key. His runs were also very beginner and not smooth or practiced. But perhaps with very intense vocal training he could accomplish a lot!

Ant has bad vocal technique. He reminds me of another cringy guy named Lamar who had a voice (though he claimed that the judges at his audition said he couldn't sing when they didn't). It's not that his voice in itself was bad. He just had NO technique.

Vocal coach and opera singer here: I’m sure any other professional will agree, the main singer with the boy named Ant at 9:10 , Serb, actually has a moderately decent voice. Definitely above average, he has good sound and tone. Simon was off the mark claiming he was a horrible singer. He has the natural tone, just needs refining.
