In Clacton-on-Sea, a small seaside town, barber Susan and her clients reflect on current European issues like migration, religious extremism, economic decline and the position of the UK vis-à-vis the EU. As her barber shop serves as the local get-together place in the neighbourhood, we get to peek in the opinions of ordinary people and their hopes on post Brexit society. Susan is one of the very rare female barbers, who learned the profession since she was 14. With clients of both sides (the REMAIN voters and the LEAVE voters), we follow Susan balancing between being warm and social on the one hand and being closed and protectionist on the other - an issue that all European populations struggle with since the migration crisis and muslim extremism.

I think the way she is so supportive, so encouraging and so respectful to each and every client is a special type of quiet hero. Susan does this for each of her clients six days a week, month in and month out. Think about all the (temporary) sunshine she puts in people’s lives. She isn’t looking for adoration. She just does it. I am very impressed by her.

As a Brit who left the U.K. after Brexit, I find this really hard to watch. The U.K. is in such a complex and difficult situation. Their views are inherently racist and xenophobic. You can’t be from a country that colonised most of the world and be offended by a multicultural society. However, these people have valid concerns and problems… but they are blaming the wrong people. They have been let down by a system that ignores the working classes and underfunds communities that are of no interest to them. Their poverty is because of the government and 12 years of Tory rule, not immigrants. They voted for Brexit thinking the EU was the issue but it’s the government. The government (tories) have bled the country dry and left many people behind. It’s devastating to see people suffer like this, in a country that is supposed to be rich.

Brexit was the epitome of British exceptionalism by British people who think like this. "It's someone else's fault and not us". When tory funded newspapers are constantly blaming "dole collectors" and "immigrants", people will start to believe they are the real culprits, when in fact, the rich Tory bast*rds have been bleeding this country dry for the last decade.

I am a revert and so many Muslims from birth are mightily unpleasant with me. They hardly ever greet me. They don't return my greeting. They talk to me when they need something; money, where to catch the bus, how to find a certain address. It's awful. I had Turkish neighbors who were an absolute pain even though I was polite, kind, helpful. They treated me like a doormat. It's not always Islamophobia. Sometimes it's plain and simple dislike of an anti social mentality.

I live in america, and we are a melting pot of many different ethnicities, and i give respect to those who respect me. I have had two dr.'s who acted like they were above me, and i told them that i was raised not to be prideful, or prejudiced against anyone, and that we are all equal. The one dr was from india, and the other was from syria, and after i said this to them as a white female, they changed, and treated me with respect. The funny part about the dr from syria, was he asked me how he could get people to like him. I told the guy to smile more, and to really listen to his patient, and treat them like they were as good as him, and he really tried. You have to be willing to talk to new people, and if they have no respect, then forget about them, but no need to hate or dislike someone because they are different. Paul taught that love was the greatest gift to receive from Christ, so i try to do that. G-d bless everyone.

In cosmetology and nail school we were taught to stay away from certain subjects and she spoke to her clients about all three of no nos. 😊. Too controversial. You'd be surprised by what your clients tell you. Like a bartender. 😉. She did some really nice barber haircuts and she was super wonderful to her clients. She offered to let one of her clients sit in her salon when it was open because her client was becoming homeless. I had a client who's husband left her and locked her out of their home. She had her dog and her birdcage in her car when she came for her appointment with me. By the way her neighborhood seems really nice for real estate growth potential. It's near the ocean. The sand, the water, the view and possibly a beach. I'm surprised that some wealthy broker or commercial real estate company hasn't purchased property and raised the buildings and homes. They would replace them with high rise hotels and rentals and exploit the poor residents. That's what they'd do in America. Rob the poor and the rich get richer.

I don’t know. In one way I saw the same thing you saw about them being fearful of the “other people“. But on the other hand it is not fair when certain people get more income than others. I live in the USA and I heard that different refugees were getting like approximately $3000 a month from the government. I didn’t believe it. I didn’t think it was true. Especially since most people on Social Security only get an average of about $1100 after they turn 67 years old. And I looked it up and it was true. I don’t know if it was every refugee or what, and I don’t know how long they got it. But I’m kind of thinking that if a country saves your life by letting you become a refugee then you should start out at the bottom. You shouldn’t come in living a better life than other citizens who have lived here already.

As a Londoner who has visited Clacton on sea many times from childhood to adulthood british people like myself aren’t racist because hordes of immigrants have come in and changed our culture and way of life, instead of making sure immigrants coming to our towns and cities are vetted before stepping foot on our shores to make sure their values are the same as ours and they speak our language, adopting our customs and living like Brits do. That’s not racist that’s called respect. Just like immigrants flooding other countries, you have to adopt their nations values as your own or don’t move there. The mainstream media and EU have done a good job at indoctrinating plenty of people to think the people of Clacton are racist when they aren’t. That’s what Brexit was about, to be in charge of our own affairs and slowdown immigration to manageable levels, so people coming here have time to integrate and learn our way of life, unless they are coming from similar countries like our own.

As soon as she started talking about people coming over from different countries and "opening all these shops" I had to click off. The British Empire in and of itself is formed because people from other countries came here and colonised! The attitude of people who have a problem with other nationalities coming to the UK and establishing their own businesses as being a bad thing is Nationalist, often racist and frankly so archaic that it should remain a historic attitude. Growth comes from diversity and I can't support someone who isn't willing to be accepting of others purely because of where they were born, what their skin colour happens to be or which God they believe in for example. I was hoping this would be a wholesome documentary about the lives of those coming in to a local barbers shop and I'm currently only finding a platform spreading an outdated viewpoint. If you want someone to blame for the lack of progress in our benefit systems, the people on the streets drinking and using other substances, look to the big rich bankers who are mostly white men who have ruined our economy, look to the rich old white men in politics who only cater to the 1% of the population who are also rich old white men because they only ever want to protect their own interests and do not care for our NHS, our schools, our disabled people and our elderly because they only care for themselves. I'm a white British disabled woman and it took me a year to get Priority housing for a council flat. If I were black or Asian, it'd be the exact same because there aren't enough houses, there isn't enough money available to house everyone and the myth that foreign nationals are just given housing is utter bs. Noone is just handed housing because the bankers and the government have squandered our country's money on red wine and cheese parties for themselves. THEY are the problem, not asylum seekers or people "taking our houses and jobs". There are no jobs or houses to take because of the government.

Where are your ancestors from? Unless you're a Native American, you got here via asylum seekers.

@117Pinkyflower Sooo... Why don't you leave MY COUNTRY? NOBODY'S nailing your feet to the ground here you know that right? YOU do have a HOMELAND but this ain't it! I'll make you AND the people in this film a deal. Since you're being a whiny little baby AND he's complaining about people coming over too. You go back to where your parents... Because you're not from here. The boat I got your family here, absolutely positively FLOATS the other way! I can guarantee you that the right back is much more comfortable and it was for your ancestors on the way here. You are nothing but a GENERATIONAL ANCHOR BABY HERE so don't forget that. Anyone who is born to someone who qualifies as an illegal immigrant status... They become an anchor baby by the definition of the US GOVT. FOLLOW THE GOVTS reassigning all the way back into history until you reach the point of your family... And remember these laws are governmental constructs honey. There was NO AMERICA when your family showed up here AS THE BOAT PEOPLE YOU ARE. YOU'VE HAD CENTURIES TO ASSIMILATE AND YOU HAVEN'T... NOT 1 NATIVE LANGUAGE OR CULTURE DID YOU ADOPT. RIGHT? OKAY THEN. So I suggest you shut up with that wacked out attitude of yours, considering you are a barely tolerated person existing here... AND IN CANADA TOO! YOU are standing on my want sweetheart not the other way around. Don't you EVER get that twisted. NOW keep your mouth shut the rest of your life while you infringe upon others here OR save up AND pack up .. and you better take EVERYBODY with you. WE DON'T what any more roaches left behind to continue breeding. Take your entire lineage with you in one fell swoop back to HOME SWEET HOME and see if they'll have you. Odds are is YOU DIDN'T ASSIMILATE to your own culture EITHER! You better get on that now & start preparing. BYE-BYE! 😂🗽😎 #Taino #Mohawk NYSideMohawk #BearClanMember

@@LoloO42 Such an embarrassingly childish point. What do you want Americans who aren't of native decent to do now? Jump into the ocean? No, Americans need to look out for Americans interests before their whole country is destroyed.

They guy at timecode: 22:40 is very very wrong. The UK and most of Europe will change dramatically in the coming years. Food shortages, climate change, war fare will bring every immigrant from Africa and the Middle East into the EU and UK.
