Testing out a replacement string. I wore the old one out. It's a bit ringy but hopefully will break in. #talharpa #tagelharpa #folkmusic #folkinstruments #bowedlyre

I was going to say the same thing .... most of the time people just saw on them with a little bit of fingering on one string (and that sounds cool to) but this is awesome lol

Thanks for sharing! This is super fun to watch. I was wondering, do they make specific talharpa strings or do you use the strings of another instrument?
@HavocHarpa Жыл бұрын
People use a variety of different things. Traditional is horse hair, these are steel viola strings (and a steel cello string), some also make them from fishing line.

Sounds amazing! Where did you get it, and what string material did yoy use?.

Thank you! I made this one and am using metal viola strings and a metal cello string.

Awesome, all the videos are, how long have you been playing, and how much do you practice usually?
@HavocHarpa Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I have been playing a little over a year now. It's kind of hard to quantify. I work from home and if I'm waiting for something I'm probably playing. Could be as little as 15 mins or as long as a couple hours but I try to play every day for some amount of time. I don't really do anything formal practice wise, just play whatever comes to mind.
@woutervanasseldonk8600 Жыл бұрын
@@HavocHarpa So you are mostly just enjoying yourself jamming around when you have the time. Cool, I hope I can play like this one day so far I have been practicing a lot but it always sounds very terrible.
@HavocHarpa Жыл бұрын
@@woutervanasseldonk8600 yep! As long as I'm a little better today than I was yesterday I don't worry about it :) keep it up and you'll get there.

@@HavocHarpa I will definitely keep practicing, and had a similar attitude but was thinking maybe I needed to do like traditional practice or anything,but I will just keep jamming and having fun then :)

What fittings are you using? I want to build one, but there are so many different parts to choose from.

The tuners are cheap bass tuning machines from Amazon. Everything else I made myself on my CNC machine.

Wonderful job. How does the nylon compare to horsehair? I can’t get a clean sound out of my second and third strings to save my life and I’m wondering if the strings are my issue. Might go to nylon if it’s easier to work with.

Thank you! These are steel viola strings for the lower 2 and a steel 1/2 cello A string for the high string. So far I've been building my instruments with steel strings in mind as I'm too lazy for mess with horsehair or fishing line much.
