I'm happy to see that Beat is gaining a little more weight. He seems to smell his food first, he might be sensitive to certain things like grilled food, try boiling his food so it has less of a smell to it. You are doing a fantastic job loving & caring for Beat & all the otters. Thank you ❤🦦❤️

I'm glad Beat is getting better! Thank you Mama & Papa LOUTRE for your hard work. 💪 I'm wondering if Beat is losing weight because he stopped drinking milk. That's what happened to me when I was little. I was chubby when I still drank milk, but then I became skinny after I had stopped drinking milk. I didn't have much appetite and to me eating was just...boring 😂 I was like that for years! I wasn't sick or anything... Does Beat want to drink milk? Maybe try to give him milk in a bottle, like what you did with Love. That should help him gain weight for now. Some otters seem to have unique meal preferences. Aty didn't want to eat sashimi at the beginning, Kotaro only recently started eating sweet fish, Sakura loves lettuce, Bingo doesn't eat coho salmon, etc. Probably Beat is a gentleman with such distinguished taste buds! 😄 So, maybe it's just a matter of finding food that he likes. Also, how about his "toilet stuff"? Color, smell, texture...Is it different than the other otters' ? It often gives some clues if there's something wrong in his body.. I hope Beat keeps improving so there's no need for anesthesia...We're cheering for you Beat!

It seems you try different foods with him, but I guess the mood supersedes. He's such a cute and sweet little boy. We love you Beat.

Ganbatte Beat! Glad to see you improving and more active! Eggs are the cleanest and highest protein source but mainly relying on hard boiled eggs may not help rebuild or balance the gut bio-genome for healthy digestion and absorption of nutrients. I think you are very wise to offer a variety and let Beat choose what he wants to eat and trust you will continue to do that. We have to trust our "gut" and animals most often have a very strong instinct when it comes to that. He may have rejected all the raw fish as his instinct told him his gut cannot handle it as he is unwell, but as he gets better it may be best to return to raw fish on his own terms as that is their natural diet. If he is regaining his diet and putting on back weight steadily, I believe it is fine to postpone the appointment with he vet. Stay warm and happy Beat! 😘

Can I just say that Momma Loutre is just amazing and such a kind person! Thank you for the Live and for taking the time today to give us Beats update! I’m confident you will watch over him and take him to see his Veterinary Dr if he really needs it! I would be very weary after losing baby Love too! I’m wondering if Beat would drink MILK like she did for some extra protein? I also think feeding him away from the others is a great idea! Are there powder protein supplements safe for otters? Or will beat eat / hunt fresh fish like Aty and UI? They love sweet fish! Maybe he needs to indulge his hunting instincts more often… please keep us posted! I'm so happy to know that our beat is eating again. It seems like he is a picky eater. They may have already recommended this but it has helped me with my river turtles when they don't eat much: vitamins to stimulate appetite, will they be available for otters? I hope so. Also, it's a great idea for him to eat alone, he seems to be a good selective eater, he also enjoys eating slowly, so giving him in a different room can still help, so he eats without having his food stolen. I hope our little one continues to improve :( fighting mom and dad loutre ❤

Beat is in good hands, and it’s true, the idea of using anaesthesia is frightening. Our dear Love-chan was a different case, though, as her congenital condition only made things worse (which is not Beat’s situation) Question: would it be possible to take him to Tokyo? Perhaps he could see Kotaro’s doctor. I remember that video when they got microchipped and needed anaesthesia for the procedure. Just to seek a second opinion - of course, we all trust your judgment here. I’m glad to see he’s eating more, looks like he prefers eggs over fish. But it’s hard to predict, as you said. I did notice Beat looked underweight myself, also commented about it, glad he is both being seen and getting better :D I still say whether or not he fully recovers to still see the Dr, just incase and to hopefully stop it in future, but I am really happy he is getting better and hope he continues to do so :D It would be a tragedy to have a repeat of Love, as we still miss her.

Anesthesia is always a risk regardless of animal, given some have more difficulty with it than others. It's difficult to decide when the anesthesia risk is less risky than just waiting things out, i have faith that mama and papa Loutre are the best choice of making that hard decision and do what's best for all the otter babies. We can have thoughts but none of us will ever know them as well as you do, believe in what your heart tells you is the best option to have these lovely otters be as healthy as possible.

Have you tried to give him the formula you give the baby otters that need extra food? It might be a good concentrated source of nutrients and calories. If he doesn't like a bottle, he might drink from a bowl. I don't like to say this, but when my dog was showing the same behavior as Beat, she had cancer. I was constantly having to change her diet around to get her to eat, and her behavior was sometimes happy and playful, but sometimes she slept all the time. I know the anesthesia is traumatic for you, Mama Loutre, but I would not wait longer. Not eating in an animal with as fast as a metabolism as an otter is a bad sign. Lack of appetite is usually a first symptom for lots of illnesses. I'm positive something is wrong and he won't get better on his own. The sicker and weaker he gets, the harder the anesthesia will be on him. I don't say this to be harsh. I hate putting my dogs under anesthesia and they tolerate it rather well. I would definitely not wait longer.💔😢

We lost our first cat at 15 to anesthesia, so the risk is high. We were not aware at the time, and it was an elective procedure (teeth cleaning - not emergency). We were heart broken and still are. It is good that you know and protected Beat-chan from the potential danger. Light and love always ... ❤️🙏❤️

So glad he is eating the cat food, eggs, and chicken. I know Bingo in Japan always ate chicken and it took years to get him to try fish. Also Otters Home in South Korea have boiled and diced squid for their otters and their otters seem to love that. Maybe that could be tried for Beat? I worried how weak and sleepy he was in some recent videos (those two things can indicate some bad conditions which I won't list here because it is upsetting). So happy he is eating more! 💪😀🤗

It's so *very* good to see him picking up and feeling better! I am sure that you are doing exactly the right things--especially feeding him by hand, giving him a varied menu, and letting him choose what he wants and sometimes eat apart from the other rambunctious kids. It was so great to see him chowing down on the chicken and eggs! As long as he continues to improve I think it's a great idea to spare him the anesthetic, because if he's improving then you are obviously doing just what he needs. He is such a sweet, loving little soul--I send him and all of you positive energy, love, light and good wishes every night! 💖

🍃I notice little Beat seemed very skinny and tired as well. Food is tricky every animal is different as humans what about more of a veggie diet with meat and rice. Some otters love lettuce, avocado, cucumber etc...not sure about rice but the doctor might have some ideas. I would still have him looked at by the doctor. Ask Otterman about how to still Beat during examination without anastasia he might have some tips and tricks. Beat is looking better and much more active which is great also maybe he needs more quiet time to relax from his siblings to recharge if he more an introvert he will did this to gear down. What about getting outside for vitamin d or provide some for all the otters it is an important vitamin for health. Perhaps on one to one days with mom playing outside in a park or wooded area with a stream. Thanks for keeping us up dated on Beat and for taking care of our little daring. Carm❤🍃
