Talk Talk perform their sublime song It's My Life on UK TVs The Saturday Show in 1984.
Apologies for Guy Garvey talking over the clip. It was shown recently on TV. Any clip is better than no clip I figured.

One of the best songs ever written and ever existed. We used to go to this place, called Ground Round, back in the 80s. The waiting staff and managers already knew our order, so our beer and wings were already on the table when they saw come in and #94 on the jukebox, It's My Life, was already playing due to us coming there. We loved this song, we heard it there, in our cars, in the clubs we visited and everywhere where we could listen to it. The 80s was the best era in music and this was and still is, one of the best songs ever written.

This song has a very other worldy vibe to it, it is joy and sadness at the same time. It as though angels created this song thru the singer. Very ethereal feeling, spiritual. A time less piece of music. It has the same vibe as Billy Idol's "Eyes without a face".......dark and brooding.....

If you like the bass line of this song, have a listen to this new extended version. It combines the long intro of the original extended mix with the vocal parts of the single version, because the original extended mix was almost completely instrumental. Now it's the normal song, just longer. Enjoy! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaq2YaSHp9x9iqs

I can say absolutely that is not true, but seeing Eddie play "Eruption" from the 2nd row when you are 15 certainly counts as a mind-fucker...then came Randy Rhoads a couple years later. The band ‘No Doubt’ covered this song originally written by Talk Talk a few years after it’s initial release & ‘No Doubt’ made an absolute ‘motza’ (cash pile) from it. All the radio stations ever did was play the ‘No Doubt’ cover & ignored Talk Talk’s original version. It was a criminal oversight😡

No they aren't, they are playing totally live! Mark is singing live too.
@ceephaxx
@ceephaxx 3 жыл бұрын
@@neilt8863 No, they're not playing live. Where are all the synth lines coming from, for example? Certainly not from that organ. Also, the bass playing is far too accurate - compare it to the bass playing at their other shows around 1984 which sounds a bit sloppy. Where are the Simmons drum breaks we hear before the chorus? The drums overall sound far too clean to be recorded live in a kids' TV studio. Comparing Hollis' mic technique to other live footage of them also suggests he was not singing this live. He was usually far more aggressive, intense and close to the mic - especially during the choruses.

The constraints of playing a cramped stage mean they may not sound as they do in concert as they can't fit ALL of their equipment on, but this IS still a live version. Nothing like the record.

Mark Hollis what a huge talent he was. This band knocked out some beautiful tunes back in the day. They were criminally underrated but I think that's one of the reasons I loved them.

I was in the Saturday Show in about 82 or 83! Musical Youth (well up themselves), Tony Hadley and two robot dancers (Tick and Tock if memory serves!) as guests. A couple of kids from my school and I went up to Birmingham about a week before and did a skit in the style of Harold Lloyd called ‘The Paperboy’. It was a great craic but boy do I wish I’d have met Talk Talk!

@@marccas10 which bit, my vid or The Saturday Show? In truth, the answer is both! TSS came out after Tizwas and was a little less anarchic. I remember Tommy Boyd and Isla Sinclair as the presenters but we didn’t have much to do with them in the Studio. They were nice though. Jeremy Beadle was also there in the cast, I think this was before he had his own show too. Musical Youth were quite rude, I think the two smallest were even younger than me at that point but they thought they were above speaking to any of the audience which was a shame. If I get the video transferred, I’ll put a link up in here. Or if anyone spots it, I’m the bricklayer who gets his face pushed into the concrete as the Paperboy gets chased! 😂
