Now you are just being ignorant to call Islamic Modesty into "caveman". You are sexist because you want women to obey your warped views instead of obeying Allah. It blows my mind that in 2018 you are having a discussion about the headscarf worn exclusively by some Muslim women WITHOUT inviting these women in your panel... It reminds me of those white-washed panels discussing islamic issues... Having women in the public in a semi passive position is not enough! This is a serious credibility issue that I hope you will be working on for the next issues. Your show is interesting and the topics you mention are important to hear but again the one's affected by/experts on the topics should have way more space on your show. Also diversity of opinions should have a seat on the table.

It would personally make more sense if a women was discussing the topic about the female hijab. If you are not a female I don’t really understand how u can discuss a object that only females wear. Also hijab is not only for women, men also have hijab. Hijab is physical and also mental. It is so common that men don’t follow their hijab. Why is the hijab for men dismissed constantly? The male hijab is sexualized to the point that people don’t even know men have hijab. I feel a male should never speak on a topic based around women. You are not a female thus you will never fully understand our struggles or our reason for certain things

Also I do feel that someone can be religious but not dress modest. Acting modest and dressing modest are two different things. I know many the wear hijabs but are not religious and sin and also the other way around, I know people who don’t dress modest but are very religious and act modest. I think there is a constant assumption that a women with a hijab is far more religious than a female that doesn’t wear a hijab and this is not true. I think talks like this should be more focused on the persons deen rather than their physical appearance.

Omar Kaleem all I’m saying is that in the Muslim community women are always judged based off their Islamic hijab and the Muslim community often neglects to mention men and the importance of there hijab. There is this constant imbalance. Women are given so many responsibilities and everyone is always watching their every move while men most of the time don’t even know their own hijab. Also to end off we all have our own opinions I’m not here to judge anyone. Our religion, Islam actually says it’s a sin. So you calling me dumb for stating my option was very unnecessary.

The part about family negatively impacting hijab is true. As a revert it has been incredibly difficult on me, maintaining proper hijab. There have been times where I wear an abaya, times when I have worn niqab, times that I have worn jeans, and times with only dress and skirts. There are sisters who want to cover properly, but are unable to due to their families. I know of someine whose mother threatened to burn them for wearing a niqab.

It's ironic that the brothers acknowledge how hard it is for sisters. Yet they make no effort to help sisters in this struggle of wearing hijab in the western world. women are ostracised by the way they look. Muslims women's dress doesnt simulate western dress. How about the brothers ostracise themselves. Then all the attention of looking different wont be on Muslim women rather men can share some of the burden and also some of the reward from Allah. Right now Muslim women are being attacked verbally because of looking different. How about Muslim men start looking different too. It's not only women that should be recognised as Muslims it's also for men! I mean looking at all the brothers sitting here they have no problem blending into society with their tight tight skinny jeans and short t-shirts. wearing tight trousers which resemble tight leggings doesn't constitute covering a mans awrah. Your doing the exact same thing that that sisters wearing makeup, hijaab and tight clothing are doing. Your also not even meeting the criteria of covering your awrah. Yet you sit there and accuse sisters of doing the exact same thing your doings and you wonder why. You want to be fashionable yet wonder why sisters are making effort to fit in. Let's face it in a society where beards have become a fashion statement you hardly single yourself out as Muslim men. This is not a hate comment I genuinely believe that if brothers "looked different" and could be identified as Muslims. young Muslim sisters would feel supported and wouldn't feel the pressure to try and fit in by wearing makeup and tight clothing. What happened to following the sunnah of Prophet Muhammed peace be upon him. Your cloths do not resembles the cloths of our messenger peace be upon him.

You make a strong point, I have dealt with this firsthand. A few things to consider, at the masjid in my community the men do, they stick to Thobe and Kameez. But the sisters have a role. Since they admire and praise the rappers and gangsters, the young men imitate them to try and catch their attention. It's a circle. Secondly in my society, when in the past I have worn Pakols and a keffiyah, I tend to look quite intimidating to the average person. Much more than a women in a dress, people tend (including Muslims!) to astrange themselves to those who appear "radical".

@@judok1426 perhaps a thobe isn't necessary but the guys could definitely try and avoid tight skinny jeans and wear shirts that cover their backsides insha Allah (I mean so that their back isn't shown if they bend forward). The meaning of hijab from the Quran. After colonization, the hijab, for the first time, became a contentious issue among Muslims. The colonizers saw it as a symbol of our oppression, then the Islamists turned it around and made it into a symbol of our freedom. Muslim feminists question the veil altogether. But the hijab is much more than a socio-political issue, so let's return to the Quran and try to understand the concept. The first verse is 24:31, which tells believing women to (1) lower their gaze, (2) guard their private parts, (3) to not expose their beauty except that which is apparent by necessity, (4) to draw their khimar over their cleavage, (5) to not stamp their feet, ringing their anklets (which had little bells in those days) to draw attention to themselves. Some feminists here say "aha! There's no mention of a headcovering", forgetting that a khimar in Arabic is precisely a headscarf. According to Quranic exegetes, before this verse was revealed, Arab women would wear a flowing scarf on their head, and drape it behind their backs, exposing their necks and upper chest. This was done after the manner of the Nabateans of Northern Arabia and Iraq. The verse therefore mandates that women were to take their khimar and close it from the front as well. Every traditional Islamic legal school requires a headcovering (among other coverings) for free Muslim women. What is the reasoning provided in the Quran? 33:59 provides two explicit reasons: (1) So that they may be recognized. Clothing is a source of identification, and when a woman wears a khimar, we know what her rights are. There are specific laws in Islam pertaining to ritual purity, food, marriage, charity, testimonies, status, and crime where the religion of a person matters - so the khimar allows people to recognize her religion without bothering her. Part of this recognition may also be a way to raise society's moral standards, identifying the muhajjiba as a free, respectful, trustworthy woman who should not tolerate injustice or base degeneracy in her surroundings. It is also a means for da`wa - many people use the khimar as a conversation ice-breaker. (2) So that they may not be harassed. Of course covered sisters still face harassment, catcalling, and even rape, all of which is reprehensible. But this verse does what every Slut-Walking feminist despises: it associates harassment with clothing. Of course, no woman should be harassed because of their clothing. But we know that harassment is not just motivated by "power" hunger, but by visual stimulus - according to the US Department of Justice, the overwhelming majority of female victims of sexual violence are young adults and teenagers; not children and the elderly. We also know that clothing has communicative intent; it is a means by which many people explicitly or subtly broadcast their sexuality. In the same way we dress a certain way to a job interview to give a certain impression, your clothing is a message and a presentation. So in a society where women dress promiscuously, and expect men to also "make the first move" and be "confident and assertive", they will absolutely attract looks, stares, comments, awkward conversations, sleazy pick-up artists, DM slides, and other forms of unwanted attention. Many women will attest that what they wear effects how people react to them in public. So what’s the meaning of “hijab”? The word "hijab" appears seven times in the Quran. In 7:46, the hijab is a "barrier" that divides Paradise from the Fire. In 19:16-17, Mary "secludes" herself from her family to devote herself to God in solitude. In 33:53, a "screen" protects the Prophet's wives from onlookers. In 41:5, a "barrier" prevents the disbelievers from heartfelt belief. In 42:51, a "veil" prevents Allah from being seen. In 17:45, a "partition" prevents the disbelievers from comprehending the Quran. In 38:32, a "curtain" prevents Solomon from seeking his prescribed prayers. The Quran never refers to the Muslim headdress as a hijab. In our traditional literature, the garment is instead referred to as a khimar, a jilbab, or a kisa'. So this begs the question: what is a hijab in Islamic terminology? A hijab primarily is a barrier that prevents or protects one thing from another. It can be both physical (like a curtain) or metaphysical. A physical hijab may be a simple covering that prevents unwanted access to an object or a person - much like the curtain that would prevent strange men from seeing the Prophet's wives. A metaphysical hijab could be an attitude that a person has - like Mary's seclusion from her people, or like the "social hijab" that prevents unnecessary mixing between men and women. But a metaphysical hijab can also be a boundary that Allah has set between two things. The purpose of clothing in the Quran is to project elegance and cover shame and nakedness (7:26). In all instances, the hijab protects something sensitive from those who have not demonstrated a sincere connection to it. It prevents both intentional and accidental harm from coming to the object of value. Only those who have demonstrated a sincerity to the gem beyond the barrier can access its excellence. The precious pearl hides inside the oyster's mysterious shell. Likewise, even the hijab (both physical and social) of a woman from a stranger protects her from complete objectification. The only ones that can access her feminine energy, her motherhood, her personality, and her physical beauty are (1) her direct relatives, or (2) a man who has sought her expressed consent, the permission of her guardian, and has devoted himself to her sustenance. Once that sincerity is established, the barriers are gradually removed, one after the other. The highest form of hijab is Allah’s. The hijab of Allah is Light. Allah’s Light is simultaneously both guidance to Him and a barrier between the creation and His Essence. On the Day of Mi`raj, Allah raised His Prophet (s) nearer than two bow lengths to His divine presence (53:9), passed the Light that Jibra’il could not permeate, all the way up to Sidrat al-Muntaha. The mi`raj was the ultimate unveiling to the sincerest servant of the divine. The hijab therefore is not just purely a horizontal (dunyawi) phenomenon, it is a vertical symbol that connects the celestial world (samawat) and the material world (ard). And so the ideal hijab is one that inspires guidance, but also preserves mystery from the unwanted outsider. And what is better to say than the fact that the verse of hijab was mentioned in Surat al-Noor, the chapter of Light… Some of our sisters are not spiritually ready for the khimar. My advice to those sisters is to be patient, understand the meaning of the veil, and make those steps towards it. You can start by limiting your privacy settings on social media, and deleting unnecessary pictures. This can be a first step towards humility, as it takes some to delete pictures with many likes and “encouraging” comments. Then they can start gowning the veil at certain settings. Then finally, once your imaan is up and shaytan is gone, take advantage of the moment and gown it with confidence. Allah will assist you with your effort and reward your abundantly. Remember that this world is fleeting and insatiable, and that which is with Allah is everlasting and fulfilling. May Allah forgive us all for our shortcomings. “We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you be distressed, but only as a reminder for those who fear.” (20:2-3) (TAKEN FROM Muslims Against Feminism)

It’s not only a problem in the westren world. We all have access to social media and it has a real big impact on us wherever we are, whether we are aware of it or not. Many muslim girls have taken off the hijab or started to wear more fashioned hijab styles like Turban or whatever while they are still living in their Arab muslim countries. I believe we have such problem due to lack of religious consciousness, lack of firm aqeeda. Indeed, I see no good in more young girls wearing hijab because it’s being in fashion. If we’re not wearing it to please Allah, then we’re missing the whole point, literally. And if we continue relying on our culture to save our muslim identity, we will lose it at the end, like how so far hijab has taken different “modern” meanings, many of which are not falling under the islamic conception of hijab. We need to profoundly address the problem. May Allah guide us all.

Hiba Shaar I mostly agree with you. But it's not only about lack of iman. For me personally it's also an issue of safety. I live in a bad neighbourhood. Whenever I wear traditional hijab, I feel vulnerable. Especially since my walk home involves walking in a secluded area and at another point past a pub with many men standing outside to smoke. It's intimidating. It's unfortunate but the turban style has become the silent way of saying 'I'm not a threat', and so there's a better chance of not being attacked. It's challenging times for the ummah, I don't think it's fair to limit it simply to people who wear the turban style are bad Muslims.

And I should say that the girls who have taken off their hijabs are not necessarily less faithful than hijabi girls, like myself; simply because I’m not sure if I’m wearing hijab more for God’s sake or more for cultural reasons. Only Allah knows. And I’m sorry sis if you felt offended by me. May Allah bless and save you.

But modesty should be more important sister. Allah is the one who created us , He securely planned that this will happen so we have to put our trust in Him. This life will end soon which means that the pains, sorrows will have an end as well. the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “During the last days of my ummah there will be women who are clothed but naked, with something on their heads like the humps of camels. Curse them, for they are cursed.” Another hadeeth adds: “They will not enter Paradise or even smell its fragrance, although its fragrance can be detected from such and such a distance.” (Narrated by Muslim from the report of Abu Hurayrah). Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr said: what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) meant was women who wear clothes made of light fabric which describes and does not cover. They are clothed in name but naked in reality. Transmitted by al-Suyooti in Tanweer al-Hawaalik, 3/103. This is dangerous😵😵 May Allah protect us

SS R I totally agree that Allah knows what is the best for us, and true believers are supposed to submit to Allah’s laws because they trust Him. However, modesty may be one of the reasons behind hijab, but not the only reason. If people needed convincing reasons for each islamic law in order to follow it, they would end up following their custom version of Islam.We believe the Islamic law is for all times and places, maybe the next generations would figure out the point of an ambiguous law to us and maybe not. It’s part of the test. You can see how hijab has reduced down to headscarf, and, sadly, some would say that since hair isn’t seen as fitna anymore, hijab shouldn’t be considered an obligatory islamic law, which I believe is nonsense. I wouldn’t tell my daughter that you have to wear hijab because your body is fitna or your hair is fitna, nor I would say to her it’s part of our culture you should be proud for showing up as a muslim. Rather, I would emphasize that hijab is only an extension of the purity of heart, and instill in her “aqidat al tawheed” and the love of Allah and his prophet, so she would have more respect for the teachings of quran and ahadith. That’s what I ment when I said we need to profoundly address the problem.

I've got to say, I'm disappointed in this conversation, I found it to be tasteless, irrelevant and hypocritical. Hopefully in the next show we can talk about issues with brothers and just not pick on sisters. How about we discuss brothers turning the beard in to a fashion statement or brothers dress sense. Oh and one more thing, if someone's making a good point, please don't cut them off. I'm not really liking this series to be honest, I feel like it pushed from a very crafted narrative, I'm choosing to believe that this done by Eman Channel and not brother Hijab or brother Ali, I've watched their videos for years and I know that this isn't them, they're just following instructions.

Ali dawahs point about men sexualising the hijab and the point about marriage is something I always think about as a hijabi myself. Some men nowadays would are more attracted to women who wear the hijab ' modestly ' with tight jeans and that . Thinking as long as she's wearing the hijab it's fine . And women that wear the Jilbab and abaya feel insecure and feel like men won't want to marry them because they are too 'extreme' and religious

We cant only blame the parents. Us as youth should try to understand that our parents were in a different situation than us. I think many of the men and women are old enough to understand on their own the halal and haram aspects. We can not give the blame to our parents. Most of our parents(at least this generation) were raised in secular, socialist/democratic/communist societies in most Muslim majority nations. Some of them did try to be practicing individuals but we need to have a level of understanding on or own.

I like this show! Good premise mashaAllah :) Some good ideas would be to make the camera/mic transition quicker so we're not staring at the panellists while the audience members are speaking. Some fairness between the panellists too - it would be nice to hear from all of them. Lastly, it would be nice to really build on all the points the audience members make - I know it's hard because of the time constraints but I feel like it'd be better to properly discuss fewer points than to just hear a load of statements from lots of different people and not discuss/counter them.

firstly sisters need knowledge why they are wearing the hijab in the first place, the significance of it. If they knew the value of hijab they would wear correct form of hijab. sadly hijab has been sexualised, but the ironic thing is didnt the prophet warn of the women who would be clothes yet naked? is this whats not happening now. I definitly agree, with the statement parents are responsible of their daughters wearing the correct hijab, as in the hadith it states "Every one of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock." parents need to do more on educating their daughters about the value of the hijab from a young age.however they need to have role models around them who wear the hijab, reading the stories of sahaabas and how they observed the hijab.

Your outwardly actions speak about your inwardly thoughts, desires and intentions. This is how we know people. The sisters who do these hijab tutorials are not promoting hijab the way Quran and sunnah says it. Woman are their own worst enemy. They ignore the protection and dignity set by Allah and follow their desires. Their desires are set for men and they promote their beauty so freely for them. May Allah protect us all.

No one has mentioned ‘confidence’. If woman were wearing the hijab were confident in their identity they should feel a need to please any others by making themselves attractive with the use of makeup and wearing tight clothing. And yes, these lessons start at home. I would 100% educate my daughter that she should not make herself look attract so a strange man looks at her, instead stay modest in your looks because that is better. But even niqabis dress up thief eyes with kohl, why?! What’s the reason, because secretly, deep down hey do want to look attractive for others. So stand firm in not conforming with the western trends of turban tying, make up wearing, and neck showing images that people think are acceptable as a hijab. It’s not. It never will be.
@aishaz6552
@aishaz6552 6 жыл бұрын
'Deep down they want t look attractive for others'??? Honestly, most women don't wear makeup to attract the attention of men. It's in our fitrah to want to look pleasant and nice. I can assure you, most niqabis who wear eyeliner are not trying to attract the lustful gaze of men. We are allowed to want to look good for ourselves you know.

I think this discussion lacked focus I think the aim was on the overall dress of Muslim women who wear hijab and has their overall dress changed to a westernised (more revealing) manner. In the past fewer women wore hijab but they dressed modestly, now more women wear hijab but there is a split between the dress being modest and not. This could be due to a transition from no hijab to hijab OR it may be due to people/society/role models etc trying to make the image of a women wearing hijab (for lack of another word) sexy. Clearly there is a trend to look more attractive with women wearing headscarves with a bunch of hair coming out and different dress style. For a summation, has the perception of hijab (what you think when you think of a hijabi) changed from what it should be (modest dress/covering) to a more sexualised perception? Everyone will have their own opinion.

Br Mohammed I started wearing a hijab 4 years ago and if it wasn’t for the tutorials I wouldn’t know how to wear it and feel comfortable. I work as a management consultant meeting CEOs of companies and other professionals regularly, so being comfortable in how I looked was very important. When I first started praying salah I started by praying the ones I could as I didn’t feel comfortable praying whilst at work. Now alhamdulillah due to not going in at the deep end I still wear the hijab and wear loose clothing and pray more. Where’s the harm??

The haram is in the makeup, the adornment of jewelry and scarf. I have seen these youtubers who don't even wear proper loose clothing and over do everything in beautifying themselves. They are also earning from this and selling their products to the Muslim woman. While the main problem is they are doing hijab wrongly and teaching the same to young Muslim girls and woman who don't know better to research their religion and accept the false fashionable hijab look as right. A hijab is meant to be plain with loose garments and also to have modesty in your body language, the way you walk and talk. These woman also are not modest in the way they behave and talk and try to appear cute and attractive. This defeats the whole purpose.

The west, "hijabi porn" is a new trend because they see "model like" tutorials on KZbin and it invokes inclination toward that appearance. If the Muslim woman changes her style or takes off the hijab, the narrative in the west that Muslim women are submissive will become stronger. Of course, with the proper hijab, you should maintain the proper Islamic manners.

With out watching this my opinion is it’s a clear yes it is being sexualised !! In The last 10 years the hijab has changed ALOT!!! Late 90s and the early 00s the hijab was hijab when I was at school, then the famous camel hump came into play. The first guy was correct in his words. It is difficult to wear hijab at first and with fitting in. Men will never understand how fitting in or standing out feels. But as for Instagram and KZbin it’s been put forth as a fashion accessory. We have no real role models for women and girls to look up to only KZbinrs. They don’t feel that The woman of the sahabah are not relatable. May Allah swt make it easy for us all Ameen Hijab is for brothers too....

Parenting is the causative factor for a sister adopting a hijab. If the parents do not provide islamic education and practice Islam like a buffet where they pick and choose. That then resonates with the children who when try to become more practicing are questioned about their choices with hostility. Children often feel that they have to conform to the precedent set by their parents and how they want their children to practice Islam not how Islam should be practiced.

A huge point that has been missed out is the fact that the hijab is a form of worship and no act of worship is accepted without the presence of 1. sincerity AND 2. that the action is in agreement with the sunnah of the prophet. It is now because of the lack of regard for the second point especially that we have a huge number of people who say/ believe that the hijab means/is 'something different for each individual woman' and that there are 'many interpretations' of hijab. These people do not realise that their actions (the little cloth they wear on the head) means nothing in Islam and that their 'hijab' is in fact NULL AND VOID even if they were sincere because they haven't fulfilled the second requirement which is to implement this command (hijab) of Allah swt in accordance to the shariah/sunnah. No form of worship has been left without daleel on how to implement it, and in this case the daleel for hijab (really is the jilbab/khimar) is in the hadith that describes the 7 conditions of the hijab and the hadith that talks about the women who will come near the end of time who will be dressed yet naked as well as many other ahaadith.

The truth is hijab in this 21st century has been sexualized, if u look back in the 60s, hijab was just a straight long enclosed dress with a jirbab or long scarf but unfortunately right now hijab is something different, for example when did the abaya trend start ? Which year? All we a trying to do is console ourselves but deep inside we know the truth. Western culture has been concentrated into Islam and hijab Let’s put the reverts out of this coz they end up embracing hijab better than ever

i think a problem with the hijab videos is that most don't say WHY women wear the hijab. they just give the style or talk about it and that's it. when it comes down to it, it doesn't really matter what this brother or this brother or this sister says. i think this video would have been a bit more beneficial if in the beginning or the end, it states why we wear the hijab from evidence given in the quran. i think that's where a lot of our youth have become lost/blind. we start look at people to see how we should practice our religion when we SHOULD be looking at what Allah (swt) says in the quran, and what is in the hadith. if i may give a suggestion, perhaps it would be educational and thus beneficial to cite what Allah says is our hijab or the mothers' of the believers' hijab. can't wait for the next episode in sha Allah. May Allah (swt) guide and bless you all!

Why are they hating on Hijab tutorials. This is how a lot of people learn about how to actually were Hijab. also makes it less boring. I am trying to figure out how these guys want women to dress. Literally the most boring dull colors no shape and down to the floor. SMH

Hijab is not about being fashionable and wearing beautiful comred head scarves. Hijab is way of life, which comes to modesty, honor, respect and covering one's beauty in society. It should be long loose garment like a cloak. Seriously the lack of knowledge in this comments section along with the number of hypocrites is appalling. These people are conveying the message from the Quran and sunnah as per Allah's rules. Why hating on them. These hijab tutorials are nothing but to make yourself look fashionable and beautiful with makeup and right clothes. Which defeats the whole purpose of hijab, it's more than a head cover.

Bikinis aren't boring though. If you wanna go for "exciting", wear a bikini.

It's really nice topic, Jazakallah khayr, but my question is what is the point if you cover your body, but you are putting that much of make up into your face which is interact the men around you which is haram in religion.

@@bimbobello8067 you shouldn't beautify yourself, so makeup is beautification and is haram. You should look at the Hadith and sunnah, you will find it. Also the purpose of hijab is to prevent men from admiring your beauty, if you are going to wear makeup then men are going to look at you.

i think jeans can be worn in a way that does not violate a mans hijab. but regardless if they are tight fitting that is just as much as a violation of hijab as a girl wearing the same thing, or showing hair. men definitely ignore this

Alot of ppl don't even know what the hijab is suppose to be BC it's based off culture. Quran says the hijab is a barrier from your privates. Also the niqah was worn to show wealth and so their faces wouldn't be tanned. Maybe the hijab has a deeper meaning like to. guard yourselves with invisible like barrier. It can be interpreted many ways. a Turban with a turtle neck shirt is just as modest as a original hijab. Also it bothers me that so many men talk about women hijab yet they don't wear theirs and alot don't even have a beard or they wear tight clothes and shows off their muscles.
