As a public health nurse I just want to thank everyone for getting tested. It truly is so much better to be safe than sorry. It’s heart breaking hearing all the stories at work of people who assumed their symptoms were just a “cold” and got together with their families over Christmas (even though they know they aren’t allowed to - at least where I’m from), only to find out that they transmitted the virus to half their family members. Thank you to everyone who is doing their part and staying home. We appreciate you. And thank you to Jenna and julien for setting such a good example on your platform. ❤️❤️

I work in healthcare, so I feel like I’ve been desensitized to the fear around getting tested. I didn’t think it was bad at all. My worry was the vaccine. Everyone had these horror stories of side effects, so I was scared to get mine. I got the first shot last week and I would say I’m doing well! No major side effects or allergic reactions, I had my epipen with me just in case. The only thing was a super sore arm for the day after.

I’m a nurse, I have no kids but I want to start trying soon. I’m hesitant to get the vaccine as I don’t know what the long term effects would be, especially because I don’t have kids yet. I’m glad you’re doing well!
@KittenKat13133 жыл бұрын
@@camilab1121 I totally understand that. I don’t plan on having children and my logic was that I’ve seen what covid does, I’ve seen covid’s long term effects (I work in pulmonary), and I don’t want my lungs beaten like that. Also, it sounded like the vaccine is something that we will need to get annually. For me that meant it doesn’t stay in your body for years and years like some “once in your lifetime” vaccines do. So if there are long term effects, I can just decide to not renew my shot next year. With all my options weighed, I decided I didn’t want to risk relying on my own immunity anymore and got the vaccine. I believe everyone should have the choice, it’s their body and they can decide what they want to do with it. I don’t think anyone should be shamed for getting the vaccine and nobody should be shamed for not getting it. I wanted to do what I could to protect my friends, family, and myself. I’m hoping the vaccine is that protection for me and I hope you are protected in your own way as well! ❤️

I get free and mandatory testing through my college. Here we do the upper nasal swab, and nursing students do the test for you. I have learned to tell them ahead of time that they need to go at a more vertical than horizontal angle, and that I need to rest my head on something or I will pull away on instinct. But that's literally it. It's fine, it's just a little uncomfortable for 2 seconds per nostril, and then it's over. It's only painful for me if the angle is wrong, but everyone's angle is different, it just depends on your anatomy.

It's so interesting how different the testing facilities are. I had to get tested back in March because we had an outbreak of the virus at my office after a colleague went to a funeral. I was so impressed with how organized the process was! One of my colleagues who tested positive identified me as a close contact, and I got a call from a public health nurse advising me of just that, and to expect a second call with a time, date, and location to go to a drive-thru testing facility. The next nurse called me within an hour and said my test was scheduled in two days time (bit of a backlog because of the clusters of virus popping up), and all I had to bring was my ID and MCP card. The lineup was super short, everyone had their appointments and cards out, and there were two men greeting incoming cars with their list of scheduled appointments and showing everyone where to go. When it was my turn a nurse came out in full hazmat style PPE and explained that she would be using a single swap that would first go down each of my nostrils and then down the back of my throat (yucky!) It didn't hurt at all, but getting a long q-tip shoved down my throat made me gag a little bit lol After that she handed me a packet that had a mask and info printed out on how to quarantine, when I would expect to hear results, and what to do next if I tested positive. She also let me know that if I was in fact positive, I would hear within 24hrs, if not then it was safe to assume I was negative but that I would still receive a call to confirm. Luckily I was negative! My province went into a full lockdown at the same time, so luckily we've had little to no transmission since the initial outbreaks in March!

Being an EMT, and constantly going in and out of nursing homes, we get tested at least once a week. We do the rapid tests which go in the nose (not all the way like the more accurate ones) but still not pleasant. It takes about 20 minutes. Hoping to get the vaccine in the next couple weeks once our supervisor lets us know how and where.

Our entire workplace(except my boyfriend my dad and myself) 2 weeks ago tested positive for COVID on around noon on Friday and our bosses said we all had to finish the day because there was no point in making us leave if we all had been exposed. (they decided not to quarantine while waiting for results so we spent Saturday and Sunday in quarantine till testing opened up Monday.) that Monday morning my boyfriend woke up feeling like ass. He had chills all night long, super nauseous, coughing till he was gasping for air, could barely get out of bed, no taste or smell. We met up with my dad at the testing site later that day and they gave us each a nasal swab and told us to quarantine until we got results. Two days of my boyfriend being the absolute sickest I’ve ever seen him passed and our results finally come back and the three of us are negative and doctor says we can return to work the next day??? Like if he didn’t have Covid then wtf did he have.

I work at a covid test centre and it's a super easy in and out thing, if you're really worried about getting one I promise it's not too bad! There's always someone to help walk you through it if you need and it's a little uncomfortable but it doesn't hurt at all, and if you're in the UK don't worry in the slightest about only getting a test if you have one of the main symptoms, all the test centres are super quiet at the minute and some people end up testing positive after having just a headache or sore throat. Be safe my guys!

I had to have one of the nasal tests before I had surgery last month and it felt like what I can only imagine snorting rubbing alcohol feels like. There were a few nurses in full hazmat suits, masks, face shield, gloves, etc. Rolled my window down, confirmed my info, and then they explained what they were going to do, swabbed each nostril for 5 seconds, and then explained it would take 24-48 hours to have my results and that I was good to go. The things I wish people had told me beforehand: It is a sharp, stinging pain, it will make your eyes water a LOT, but it only lasts a couple minutes. Definitely worth it and not nearly as scary now that I'm on the other side of it. Would absolutely do it again in a heartbeat if I needed to.

For the one that goes all the way up your nose, I’ve found that it feels exactly like when you jump into a pool and have water go up your nose. Cause I frickin hate that feeling and the test also felt awful to me. But my friend isn’t too bothered by that feeling and didn’t think the test was too bad. Seems like a predictable way to know how much you’ll hate it.

I get tested pretty regularly because I live in a college town where just trace testing is very important (to see how much the virus is spreading) so once a week I get the nasal one and it’s honestly not that bad! Have had a few bloody noses and sometimes bc of overall sinus pressure I might get a lil headache but it’s worth it to know whether or not I have covid. I’ve had every test come back negative so far and I’m so thankful for that.
@AmytheUnboxaholic3 жыл бұрын
I'm a health care worker and have a couple things to add. Most covid tests use the nasopharyngeal test for rapid and non rapid. Also there is/was a rapid test that gave false negative tests if it was testing for the antibody. I have not seen the oral test anywhere around here. Also just because it says rapid it still might take a couple days since testing facilities are overburdened with tests especially post holiday season. I've received my first dose of the phizer covid vaccine and I had zero side effects and it also didn't even give me any arm pain unlike the flu vaccine this year. At worse I've heard of a sore arm and mild fever with the vaccine. Getting my second dose on the 11th.

I'm a covid testing nurse in the US at a drivethru place. Our tests are free. If you have insurance they get the bill or if you don't have insurance there's a govt program that we bill instead. Ours are self-swab 15 seconds in a circle in each nostril. I do occasionally do the test for them if they can't do it. They only have to go about 1 inch inside, but I tell people its more likely to pick up the viral particles if you can go higher/pick up some snot. My main job is to make sure people are doing it right. Most people get watery eyes & sneeze but it's quick and better to know if you're positive so you don't spread it to others. There are a LOT of people with no symptoms who spread it without knowing.

My family will often get minor fevers, my father & I are a bit over the regular human temperature, some days we’ll feel horribly sick. The next day we’ll be dandy as any of the wild flowers outside, there was one week where every other day I would have a sore throat. My parents were in a panic bc I had a sore throat but no other symptoms, & my family we are in a quarantine ourselves. Only going to specific places at specific times to avoid crowds people & all that sort of thing. Pretty much sanitize everything when we get home, & even after these many scares we haven’t gotten tested bc we feel fresh as a daisy after that said scare.

At the beginning of the pandemic labs were allowed to accept approved kits due to shortages, so doctor's offices had to just make due with what materials they had available. This created a tremendous amount of variance in people's experiences, even when technically all receiving the sam type (PCR I think). When my mother and I were tested in mid April they used completely different swabs. Mine was easy, my mothers was very painful and made her nose bleed for days. I was tested at a local urgent care in a patient room. The swabs were very thin, smaller than most flu tests, but it went much higher up. When my mother was tested in her PCP's parking lot a few days later, the swabs were enormous from top to bottom, almost as thick as a standard pencil. If you google "long swabsticks" they were the kind with cotton at the end of a long wooden stick. I really don't think they were intended to be used as nasal swabs at all. Like mine, they still had to put it really high up the nose which really hurt my prim and proper mother who swore very loudly. I also thought it was interesting that when I initially came in to the urgent care (I did call in advance) the medical personnel was just wearing surgical masks, a face shield, and gloves. But after deciding to test me they came back wearing N95 respirators, goggles under the face shield, a gown, shoe booties, etc. And I was made to exit the back. It seemed kind of backwards, they should ideally be wearing gear until they know you aren't a risk to limit exposure. There was a shortage at the time, but when I was sick last month the procedure was the same...

I am a COVID tester in the UK! I do random house-house testing, and I still find it very odd that the person being tested has to do their own test. I get all the kit delivered, make up the tests, take them to the allocated houses, then at the end of every day I take the used tests to a courier to drops them to the nearest testing lab. I am a recent film graduate, no medical training or experience and no screening for the job, I got it through an instagram post by a friend. It's been a weird year, but so far I haven't tested positive.

I live in Iowa and my experience was different. I got tested after a few coworkers got covid. I signed up for a drive thru test, when I got there I was the only car there. my uni does random testing on students on top of testing all of us when we get in. it's the really uncomfortable one that may as well be poking you in the brain. our system is incredibly unorganized. i know students and faculty who were chosen for testing on a weekly basis, and students (including myself) who were chosen once, twice, or not at all. my german professor isn't allowed on campus because she also teaches at the local high school and she's been getting chosen on a weekly basis for testing. it's such a weird and messy system, that while necessary, isn't doing anything to help the student body overall because it's the same 10 people receiving tests over and over again. i'm going to have a shit ton to rant to my brother's future kids about when this is all over.

I've been tested 4 times, here in Alberta they have tried a few different systems. 1st, I went to a school gymnasium and a nurse did a nasal swab. 2nd and 3rd were in a closed convention centre one was nasal and the other throat swab. 4th was in a parking lot nearby that they had trailers setup at. They call and then you go in the number door they tell you, then get swabbed by a nurse. Results for most were quick, 2-3 days.
