Probably the most under rated musician and never had the acclaim he should have recieved

This song is dedicated to my best friend Eric Mc Callum who Sadly died in 1991 from Ardrossan Ayrshire Scotland Eric was a great fan of Steve Winwood and got me hooked I still have thise memories of us listening to this album in ChapelHill Mount from Mick Hendry. You will never be forgoten Mate !!

I think few people understand what Steve Winwood accomplished with this album. He wrote most of the music. Then he personally recorded each track and did the mixing. To do ALL of that and turn out a work of this caliber takes EXTRAORDINARY talent. I believe he never got the accolades that he really deserved.

First time I heard this song was when I was 12, the alarm-radio was going off and this song was playing. In the dream of course the song was playing, I was in my room on a sunny day, me and a friend were sorting thru a bunch of papers. The part that stood out in my mind was "He's a preacher and a teacher" This song is awesome and too soon forgotten by radio.

A very dark and underrated song. This is the original version, which has that nice fat analogue synth sound. The re-recording has more of a late-80s rock sound. Both are great.

@minden1990 Sorry to hear that you lost your best friend. He had great taste! This music is so sweet and soulful, with just a hint of melancholy--great to let the mind wander, down the narrow alleyways of the memory. Thnx for posting this outstanding song.

This track is my favorite in Steve Winwood's catalog. It should have been a much bigger hit. It was released again in 1987 as it was remixed to sound updated, but I still prefer this original version as it sounds more raw, keyboard and synth wise.

Music 101 for remixers who don't get it: if the song's already good, it's harder to do it justice, and don't bother with the redo unless you bring something special. The only substantive change in the "remix" is gated, clumsy snares that were in vogue in the mid-late 80s that were on every track, that a monkey could've done. In this case it only impedes the flow in the original, making it clunky.
