@@ramprasad9277 in this iteration of batman, he was so obsessed with only being vengeance in order to save his city that he wasn't seeing results..that's why he says at the end that he says he must also become "hope" for his city in order to help them. I see that a lot online, but I gotta disagree. It’s great but flawed. Very very long and drawn out in many points. Not a lot of heart or emotional connection. Almost all big scenes shown in trailer and fairly short on action. The beginning Batman scene where he fights the goons for example. It’s so short! He fights those guys for less than a minute!

@@anons000 action doesn’t make a masterpiece, if that was the case all of the marvel movies would be one. And no heart? The scene with Alfred in the hospital, the scene at the end where bruce literally talks about hope, the scene with batman saving catwoman from suffering after killing falcone. Even the arch of Batman from beginning to end was beautiful. It had so much heart, it just didn’t yell at you about it

@@anons000 I agree a lot of people are over hyping this movie. It borrows heavily from the whole Nolan Trilogy. Steals a scene directly from Marvel Black Panther movie. Batman doesn't even solve the case, Catwoman solves the case. He pretty much helps the Riddler the whole time. And he never catches the Riddler. Not to mention the several unrealistic scenes where Batman goes unconscious and somehow NOBODY tries to take off his mask. The police just carry him to the police station without removing his mask or his utility belt!!! AND the new mayor gets shot in the side and then a few minutes later she is wading in the water with no clear sign of injury and not worried about bandage or wound getting wet. The dialogue between Alfred and Batman was terrible ...the movie was most def FLAWED!

I nearly cried at that amazing intro when that light goes that we just barly see... followed by those calm steps that cuts through the noise of the city and gets the thugs attention and we see the Bat... I leaned back cause then i FELT that this would be a ride i would enjoy. I was "moviehigh" for days. You know that meme of escobar looking thoughtful in different places? Yeah that was me. I love Reeves' explanation of this Batman's compulsion to don the suit and go out into the night, reliving the death of his parents over and over. It's almost as if he holds all of Gotham responsible for their deaths, and the only way to exact revenge is by pulverizing the entire city one criminal, crooked cop, mob boss, and supervillain at a time.

I love that it’s a dark character. We already have 27 MCU movies with a lighter action comedy tone. We also already have other DC properties going for lighter tones moving forward like Shazam! And Aquaman. I think the darker aspects of the character and the world are one of the biggest reasons my friends/family who otherwise don’t watch superhero movies are still interested in watching the new Batman movie.

Some of these so called critics are unfairly judging the film. They obviously go into the movie with a clear bias yet still expect it to be a fun marvel romp and get surprised when a character who is known to be dark and the farthest thing from funny plays out exactly like he does in the comics they tear down the film. Rotten tomatoes has lost so much credibility over the past few years.

*Matt Reeves is wrong* *This is an excerpt from the book Batman and Psychology written by Dr. Travis Langley* "...Taking up a cause when inspired by a loved one’s death and making it one’s life’s work does not mean the person is mentally ill. Batman channels his grief for his parents into the campaign their deaths inspired, but he’s not alone in that regard. Real-world social superheroes, individuals whose misfortunes push them to levels of social activism that touch so many lives, find new purpose in life and make their losses meaningful by striving to keep others from suffering the same. They may follow their new purposes by raising public awareness of the problems, pushing for stricter laws and tougher penalties, lobbying for indirect deterrents like alcohol taxes, or even pursuing perpetrators.Outraged over the lenient sentence leveled against the drunk driver who killed her daughter in a hit-and-run, Candace Lightner made a vow, promising herself “that I would fight to make this needless homicide count for something in the years ahead,” and went on to found Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD, later renamed Mothers Against Drunk Driving)" There are several people in our real world who become social activists and take up real world issues in the wake of a terrible tragedy. This is what Bruce did too.

I loved this film a lot, saw it twice now.probably seeing it two more times in theatres even though I agree with a lot of the criticisms. The vibe of this universe just grabs me so much that I cannot wait to see how they evolve all the characters in the rest of this trilogy. It really leaves a lot on the table for it to be (not right now but after a full trilogy) the best batman trilogy weve seen so far. Not necessary the movies individually but the overarching story as a whole.

I agree- Roger got “softer” in his years after Gene died, and I loved him for it. He brought an Everyman humanity to his review that was missing before. Watch his Batman Begins review. I’ve not sure he gives that same review before Siskel’s death. Greatest film critic of all time.

Matt did an amazing job on this film. He made a batman movie not a movie with batman in it! He is looking like jim gordon here. That's crazy!

Thank U Matt Reeves for that great Start into a new Gotham-Saga with an incredible Cast - everybody crushed their Roles and it really felt, I was in Gotham for 3 Hours. I could listen to him talking about Batman all Day. Will see it in 2 Days again in IMAX and that's probably not the last Time yet.

just hearing this man talk and seeing the amount of passion and thought he has put into this version of the batman just commands so much respect from me, I see now what he ment when he said the first time when he looked into rob pattinsons eyes, he could see the soul of someone who could be batman.

in so many ways i feel like this version of batman picks up on where the gotham tv series was so cruelly cut off early because so many of the themes are the exact same- the notion of bruce reliving his trauma through batman and the gray ethics of that, the 'origin' or infancy stages of the rogues' gallery, the grit of it all, gotham (the city) as it's own character... i hope so badly that the outpouring of love for this film trickles down to the gotham series because it's SO stunning and i think so many fans of the batman would get such a thrill out of it

I totally agree with Jake's review. I walked out of the movie totally unsure of how I felt about the movie. But it's been several days since I've watched it and I can't stop thinking about it.

What I like about Matt's direction, he has principal of using CG in his movies, use it but never break the law of reality. 👏

detective work and reading clues is what makes batman though!!! detective comics! movie was a masterpiece. no scene was too long. i thought about how the relationship between gordon and batman first started, and it showed us a glimpse into how their trust began to grow. batman saw gordon trust him and gordon saw batman maturing and growing up before him. seeing batman see from a first perspective on how the cops see him and say about him when investigating on the ground with them. i loved every thing about it.
