I suspect the video creator has not played with ChatGPT yet. You can get the same effects in the browser in OpenAI by prompting something like "Give the NPC response to the player in a conversation, and act like a typical New Yorker who's inundated by stress/life". The NPCs aren't actually aware of anything in the game environment so they're not doing anything more than that.

@hadara69 Жыл бұрын
@Patrick_Tremblay That’s the thing though, game designers could LITERALLY have thousands of possible game scenarios, many not even worked out or authored by a human! They could just let these things write the “script” for you with some general common plot points to hinge it all on. You could already do what you’re describing, btw. I played “Simpsons, hit and run” years ago and would walk/drive around sometimes just to hear the Springfield residents’ canned lines (Lenny: “Hey Homa! How about a breakfast churro?!”) I didn’t advance in the game, but it was fun and gave me driving practice, etc. This changes ALL that. Imagine just “wandering around” and finding a whole other plotline that literally NO ONE has ever played before! “Black Mirror”, hold my beer…

@@hadara69 As for right now, it's difficult to imagine that this is gonna be the case. I'm pretty sure this technology not gonna go any further next 10 years ( I mean AI voice recognition has been around for quite awhile ). Being able to answer to player's questions is one thing, and to make NPCs actually interactable is another, way more challenging to accomplish thing. The best they could offer is 1) make more variety ( let's be honest, every NPC he talked to were quite intelligent and rather peaceful. In real life there are plenty different people ) 2) few NPCs being in group as friends ( this alone is quite difficult to do ) 3) chance of NPC attacking you if you offend him

@@hugoclarke3284 the real question is "what is sentience?" if we're all sims and we're just code, we might think we are sentient but not really, just electric bolts in our brains reacting to outside stimuli, but that's part of the code too. besides, even if we were truly sentient, that wouldn't change the fact that we're sims at the end of the day.

I'd love to see some basic changes to their programming based on the conversation. As it is, it seems like no matter what you get them to say, they just continue on their programmed path after the conversation is over. It'd be nice if you could actually convince them to follow you or to go sit down. Something that shows that they could actually receive input.

One of the biggest revalations for gaming in a while. Instead of slow progression in graphics its a huge step in the immersion and enjoyment you can get in a game. Yes. and if they combine this with AI characters physically reacting to ingame events. For example, you could shoot at an NPC character and they will react in real time in a realistic but perhaps not-entirely-predictable manner. The possibilities are almost endless. Imagine that in a new GTA game. It would be the biggest technological leap a game has taken since GTA 2 compared to 3. I don't think we're likely to see it in mainstreem games like GTA anytime too soon. Maybe in 10 years time though..

Give this technology 5-10 more years, and game will probably not have any more scripted interactions or dialogue. Every interaction for every player will be unique. And the main character talking to other NPC’s will never run out of dialogue if it’s generated by AI. Very interesting technology.

I am excited to see real AI NPCs in games...but it will be tricky to integrate live AI agents into a game. If they aren't following a script, then it will be difficult to build a game around them. It would probably need to have procedurally generated quests and objectives too.
