yeah some serious passive aggression in this one. Not sure where from? Chad's a super nice guy and one of the few people moving powerlifting forward and challenging the status quo respectfully and intelligently.

I don't feel this. I think that Mike just has a differing philosophy and is trying to get more of a base explanation from Chad on how he would do it differently. I think if we got a second episode with him they could go deeper now that they have an understanding of the basics of Chad's training.

Felt like Mike didn't really want to believe what Chad was talking about. Doug at least seemed more balanced. Chad did say his method isn't the best for everyone, and everyone has different needs. Mike just seemed like a Westside devotee

300 air squats equates to....300....Air squats I will tell you what I find interesting about this WESTSIDE debate. Louie likes to talk about Russian methods. The only problem is no one in Russia does what Westside Barbell does. However, everything Chad talks about, or does, is EXACTLY what every athlete in Russia and Eastern Bloc countries do....Hmmm
@ObscureAcronymsMedia10 жыл бұрын
You should have Chad on again. I appreciate all that you guys do, but Mike kind of stifled Chad. He's one of the best minds in strength right now, but confirmation bias kind of ruined this one. Still excellent, but had more potential.
@LB23BJJ10 жыл бұрын
did not see your comment, completely agree! lets get him on again with the powerlifter guy and let the man speak!! This is coming from a guy who both likes westside and jts. In principle they are both the same thing, just chad says that bands and chains kill ur CNS more or less, which is why I use them only in the off season or when i am doing technique based sport training ie drilling. And the other difference is varying max/dynamic effort exercises, which is also a solid point that should be taken seriously, and from my humble 6 years in the iron game, agree with .... Let there be more!!! or eelse let them fight for the mic lol u in bro?! ahahah

"Nobody practices squats more than CrossFitters," yeah, that's why Rich Froning squats so much more than Olympic Weightlifters like Lu Xiaojun

Simply stating that the host of this podcast made a bit of an extreme statement. Oly lifters squatting 2x daily 6 days/week is probably more than just about anyone. And, for the record, my comment was sarcastic in response to the elitist attitude the host was projecting.

I powerlift but competing with only the 3 lifts would make training waaay too mundane. Specialty bars and accommodating resistance add fresh challenges to training is not moving in the exact specific direction of the competitive lifts.
@ianmcstruthers99378 жыл бұрын
That's fine as long as you're admitting that the reasons you are doing it aren't for optimal performance but rather enjoyment

I think chad is definitely on the right lines and they just take it a bit the wrong way. But also he should accept it depends on the athlete for one, in weightlifting for example if you have an athlete who's ass fires up in the air when he goes to snatch then getting him to do just snatches aint gonna benefit his snatch as much as getting him to go do some squats.. you have to focus on weaknesses which is what chad was saying the higher up you get the less weaknesses you have. but at the same time for example dan green trains box pulls for hip strength then off the ground or deficit because competition lift and mobility.. because if you are squating heavy then why deadlift to improve the deadlift when you can box pull and stiff leg and improve the deadlift weaknesses that you arent from squatting.. so variation is good i think given there is a reason for that variation
@JuggernautTrainingSystems9 жыл бұрын
Adam Cole Yea I'm totally in agreement with people doing exercise variations to address their weakpoints, the problem though with many people's understanding of this, particularly it seems those who follow westside principles, is that the variations they choose have such low specificity and poor carryover to the actual movement. I use competition squats, olympic squats, pause squats at different points and front squats in my own training and each serves its own purpose. Exercise variations just need to be chosen strategically.

I agree with most comments on here. Weird vibes coming from Mike. I understand everybody has their own training philosophy and even if you don't neccessarily agree with it doesn't mean you should act the way he did. One of the reason I watch this podcast and what really got my attention is all the different variety of people they bring on and the experience/knowledge they bring.

The only thing this video taught me was, if you got into crossfit from an athletic or strength background you will be good at Crossfit, but if you come out of Crossfit you will literally SUCK at everything else. So Crossfit doesn't do shit to improve on anything but Crossfit. "everything is Crossfit, but nothing is Crossfit" So what it means is it's fucking worthless. Hear that kids DON"T DO CROSSFIT!!!!

@KongLuvs9 жыл бұрын
Chad is a patient man to put up with that kind of shit. That was straight-up unprofessional of the interviewer to act like that towards a guest. If you don't agree it's cool to ask pointed questions for clarification, or maybe playfully express disagreement and maybe have a friendly debate, but the fuckin' contempt and attitude was ridiculous. Mike was actually sneering at him. lmao I've seen Chad in other interviews and the guy is just super friendly and easy-going, which makes it even more ridiculous to treat him like that. And what's with the fuckin' box squat technique WOD when the guest just expressed how essentially useless nearly all powerlifters and weightlifters think it is? Any crossfitter who's using box squats in their training, unless they're injured and doing it during rehab, is wasting their time. Box squatting simply will not give you the mobility or connective tissue stength that you're looking for with a weightlifting centric sport like crossfit. What a fuckin' slap in the face to Chad, as well as being completely useless info for your viewers.

Omg. Poor Chad. It must have been like talking to two brick walls. These guys have absolutely no knowledge of anything related to lifting. Chad was putting forward well reasoned arguments and all that was coming back was pure speculation and nonsense that they just made up - what Mike said was pretty much all bro science. I had recently changed to having a more positive attitude toward Crossfitters, but watching this just hammered home for me how stupid they all are and how little they know. All they wanted to hear from Chad was confirmation that what they thought they knew and what they did were correct, whereas when Chad basically told them they were wrong about everything they got defensive. Mike's ignorance and unwillingness to actually comprehend and understand what Chad was saying was just unbearable; I don't think anything Chad said sunk in, because it contradicted the worthless crap that he thought he knew.
