For Tobias Harris, watches are inextricably linked to family. His older brother is in the watch business (and was off-camera gently ribbing him occasionally, as older siblings are wont to do) so Harris has a well-informed voice responding to his "should I get this?" texts. But you see the family connection in every piece from his grandfather, a Tuskegee Airmen, to his father who played college ball, to his wife - Harris buys pieces that remind and celebrate those closest to him. Watch the video to hear their stories. This is Talking Watches with Tobias Harris.

@@jhcowatchinglifestyle I've been in the watch game for a while because my uncle has been a watch maker for more than three decades so I know about high end pieces even though I could never afford them (the most expensive watch in my collection is a $500 vintage Grand Seiko hi-beat) but I'm like Kevin O'Leary with my collection I need a dial that just screams "Me" with it's uniqueness and I haven't found that with Shinola so far now that's not to say I've seen EVERYTHING they have to offer but I also go for unique case shapes as well which I why one of my dream watches is a Panerai Luminor. Another thing for me is cost efficient watches, Bell & Ross for example what they charge for a watch that uses a generic movement is just sinful especially when there are watches with in house caliber movements that run around the same price range

Great interviewer, props for the skills there. And from an enthusiast perspective, we are equally excited over a person wearing a Bulova than a Rolex (I say this as I'm wearing my Rolex now.) But that Vacheron, wow. Once I saw the VC I immediately thought, "holy cow, this dude knows his stuff" and immediately got chills. I have a couple Casio F91W right next to my Rolex, VC, Zenith, and Tudors, and I get super excited if I see them out in the wild.

I don't watch basketball nor know nothing about it, and no idea who this bloke was. That being said, this has been the first time I've deeply enjoyed one of this collectors videos. This guy is a true watch collector and really enjoys watches. His collection is awesome. A great mix of sentimental value, horology master pieces and fun relaxed everyday watches. No bling bling bs. From Bulova and Shinola to the Holy Trinity. Also, the interviewer not attempting to be the center of attention trying to prove how much she supposedly knows, but gently managing the flow of the conversation, giving back time to the collector. Best ever. 10/10.

Man i ain't even halfway through the video and I LOVE that Tobias Harris is repping Shinola purely because they were the brand that represented his Detroit years to him, he saw how much care they were made with, and he wears them on sentimentality alone. The glossy case finish is only a bonus on top of that! I might cop one soon... Update: he loves the CItizen Orca because he loves whales, not just becuase Citizen is a premier affordable brand? And he loves the Bulova for his grandfather that won the war? Man is about the story. This is the prime example of a watch collector.
