@@paulevans240 “blatant blocking” gets actually physical. he moved out wide and made em work for it, which is a race strategy u see mostly in the 800 or the 4x4. they did it in the preliminaries for the 800 (wasn’t as exaggerated) and Brazier took advantage of it and won the heat, waiting for the opening and running thru it. it’s risky but can pay off as we seen with Chelimo

I think something that not many people bring up about the finish is that Fisher and Woody are also moving to the outside. Had Chelimo moved in front of Grant and Grant didn't slow down or also move, causing a collision, yes absolutey a DQ on Chelimo. Maybe it's the camera angle, but I don't think Chelimo is ever directly in front of Grant. Or at least until the last 10 or so meters, he doesn't have both of his legs in front of both of Grant's legs, which could have caused a collision. What I'm saying is, there could have been far worse fouls to take place.

At what point would he have been accused of obstruction? It was very obvious that he blocked, and that i not legal in Track. It did not really matter because the same top 3 would have advanced, but this would get called out in Tokyo?

For as long as you’re still in front of the other runners, it would still be legal in the trials. It’s a textbook strategy where you let your opponent the longer distance than you do. USATF got him DQed otherwise if it’s an illegal move
