I’ve recently applying your advice and have been taking magnesium, vitamin d, fish oil, eating single ingredient foods, excercising >150 minutes a week, cut out the beer or two I would drink, lost 10 lbs, and was on two blood pressure medicines and am now totally off blood pressure medicine and my Bp is ~120/65. Thanks and Keep the videos coming!

Love when you talk about prevention. 1: Nutrition-You are what you eat, so eat a balanced diet. 2: Exercise-Your body was designed to move, so move it in a significant way everyday. 3:Stress management-Stress is a killer, so learn to manage your stress. Prayer, Meditation, Etc. Whatever works for you. 4: Sleep-This is when your body repairs itself. We live in a world that doesn't value sleep, but everyone should.

Stress and sleep deprivation nearly killed me. Broccoli, carrots, almonds and walnuts, along with minimizing processed foods and sugar, lowering salt, and having a loving circle of family and friends are why I’m still alive. And having a silly sense of humor and walking at least 4 miles a day, even with my walker. Finally, there is my addiction to Talking With Docs. Thanks, guys!

Agree with Dr Marrone. As an adult cardiology NP we need to start education in preschool where habits are being made. All of the things she talks about needs to be taught and carried out with parents teaching their children and schools continuing the education. Also children’s school lunches aren’t even healthy. This all has to start at an early age...

Totally agree. One problem at least from living in the poorest county in Texas for most of my life. Much easier & cheaper to feed kids $1 burgers and fries vs. getting fruits/veggies that costs 5, 10 times that. There's definitely a child obesity problem in that area no doubt, not to mention other chronic issues kids in general should in no way be experiencing. The day we make healthy food affordable (among other tweaks) the better for all.

Would love an episode focused on people with disabilities. Those of us with physical and sensory disabilities. Most lifestyle change education is focused mostly on those who are ‘able’. Many of us don’t have the environments, resources/tools, education to support lifestyle changes as a person with a disability. There are so many assumptions and obstacles. Thank you. We want to be healthy too!!! There are not many docs / educators who understand these challenges. (They don’t know what they don’t know). There are “adaptive” physical activities that are shared, but there isn’t a focus on the lifestyle, daily practices. There is a higher lever of long-term health issues we would like to prevent!!

I’m in the dental aspect of health care and we always inform our patients how to maintain a healthy oral ph, reduce decay, reduce erosion, foods and beverages that appear benign yet have irreversible damage to the tooth structure etc. Plus we spend time- the key is TIME- educating our patients how to effectively remove biofilm and pathogens. My primary doctor only wants to order tests and have the tests reviewed. If the numbers are in a bad area we are shamed. Yes, shamed. We are never given health advice from our primary provider. Always keep learning, stay ahead of what we learned in DDS training or MD training. That’s gets us out of the gate but we need to be relevant

Thank you for making this video! I’m an RN and starting nurse practitioner school in the fall. Tools like this sound like they’d be valuable once I graduate and start practicing. In my experience, around 75% of the patients that I’ve cared for are sick because of their poor choices. My heart is with them and no one deserves to get sick! I just wish that younger people would listen when we tell them about the dangers of poor choices. Healthy things I do every day for wellness: 1. Use a standing desk at work and don’t sit all day 2. Journaling as a part of stress management 3. Incorporate extra fruit and vegetables into my diet with smoothies and juicing, making soups, and adding other veggie pulp to everything I can think of (dinner today was pancakes made from overripe bananas, eggs, beet purée, and a little oat flour.) 4. Take smaller portions and Stop eating before I feel full 5. Wear sunscreen every day and moisturize my skin 6. Go to bed and wake up at the same time most days, even when I’m not working Unhealthy things that I DON’T do everyday 1. Instead of salt, I use herbs, spices, and salt substitutes (NuSalt) 2. No caffeine. Not just a little cup of coffee or a soda; NO caffeine (my blood pressure went from 120/80 to 110/70 from probably these two things) 3. I don’t Smoke, use recreational drugs, and rarely consume alcohol. I am not perfect by any means! I still have a long way to go to lose weight and improve my cardiovascular health with good choices. However, by making small, almost incomprehensible changes, I’m able to “trick” myself into making good choices that are so subtle that they feel easy to do.

Yes! Everything you say is true. What about people who are poor and live in food deserts? I heard a radio program recently where a major urban area has NO GROCERY STORES! The people living there mostly rely on public transportation- so traveling to a suburban grocery store to buy fruits & vegetables takes hours. They suffer disproportionately from major health problems. They only have fast food available to them.

I am 65. I became a "health nut" at age 14. 51 years ago. 1972. When there was no internet, no you tube videos, no Whole Foods Markets. I taught myself. I read books, educated myself, and found a tiny health food store on a university campus near my home. Exercise has been my life since then, and still is today. I have very considerably progressed in my health knowledge since then with so much on the internet and youtube at our fingertips, along with the Life Extension Foundation. So I ask, why don't people know about health TODAY? Why does it seem to be getting worse? There is really no excuse.

@Char Florida Because people do not want to do the work. They have been raised on instant gratification for everything while creating excuses for the ill health they CAN control. People want a pill to fix all their ailments, they do not want to put the effort in that’s required. As a result, we do not have a health care system, we have a sick care system, and guess what - it’s more profitable. Unless each person makes the necessary change for themselves, nothing will improve.

The Giro Italia ended yesterday. Those guys eat lots of sugar, rice, fruit, pasta, potatoes, and white bread. They are not fat. They don't have diabetes. They are the healthiest people on the planet.

For decades I did nothing good for myself---ate the goods I love and of course they are all the worst ones for health. And I ate lots of them all day and night long. I did no exercise. Then one day a year and a half ago I decided to change that, knowing I needed to not do it for a month, or 6 or a year. It's something I need to do for the rest of my days, because if I don't, the rest of my days will end much sooner than later. My own fault for not doing things sooner to try to prevent the issues I have. It is ironic that the 4 things that kill the most people can be avoided (in most cases) by our own actions. My own laziness, lack of discipline and love for food (ok, addiction) would be my undoing. I had a choice to make.

You mentioned stress. Stress is a very interesting topic because there is a reason we are stressed so getting to the underlying reason, or cause of the stress, it critical. Stress effects what we eat, drink and other bad habits that over time come back to bite us in the butt. I'd like to hear more from Dr Marrone on the subject because it is mission critical to our health. I know this from personal experience.

Been doing my best to make lifestyle changes for the past few months. Eliminating as much processed food as possible. No added sugars. Exercising. A balanced diet. I’m 74 in fairly good health and want to keep it that way or make it even better. No kale. Avocado, asparagus, artichoke hearts, salads with olive oil. I can’t quit my 4-6 cups of black coffee. Doesn’t keep me awake. Go to sleep in minutes. I guess 22 years of extra strong military coffee made my body adapt. 😀☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️

My healthy habit I am trying to get back to is bike commuting. I bike-commuted faithfully for years and then my job shifted sites and it was no longer feasible. But now I CAN do it again. Trying to bike 8 miles each way at least 3 times per week. (Very hilly area.)

I agree! There is a ton of education that has lacked in the healthcare. Most haven’t been treating the whole person. Also, the healthcare system needs to have support groups for people who want to quit smoking or are overwhelmed by so much information on diet etc. another thing is , not letting injured persons rot ! How to exercise instead of physical therapy on repeat……that’s anxiety and/ or depression provoking which can turn into phobias which equals soooooo much stress!

Thanks for keeping further exploring this aspect: life style with emphasis of food. Would love to hear her about Whole Food Plant-based.... And help us all not to confound it with just vegan -if its ultra processed and loaded w saturated fat and sugar will be as unheathy as animal based products like cheese, meat, milk and hotdogs/chorizos/hams....It seems the lobby of the vegan ultraprocessed is growing as the one of meet , dairies an eggs...do you agree?

Just sayin', you can be vegan without any fake meats at all. They're expensive, for one thing.ive been vegan 40 years and very occasionally use fake meat as a special treat, such as lightlife fake deli slices for sandwiches when I'm traveling. Other than that, I rely on beans and tofu. Works just fine and I save a fortune at the grocery store.

Another video full of information for all of us. I do have a question for you doctors...and it is what is your opinion about the plant based "meats?" Are they a good thing to add to your diet so you can cut down on the red meats/meats that we consume? I am asking about Impossible Burger and Beyond Burger. I noticed this weekend that there is now impossible chicken and impossible sausage. I guess I'm concerned about how they are made. I've already gone meatless 2 days a week and sometimes 3. I would appreciate opinions. Thanks in advance.

Hi Sharon. Think of them like a treat or a transitional food. They are often highly processed which usually means added fat, salt and sugar which just isn't good. Ok in a pinch. Up to you obviously

A simple small thing, but looking around, I very rarely see others doing it, even during & after Covid. For 30+ years, I’ve always washed my hands with soap up to my wrist bone, rinsed thoroughly, & used paper towels or bottom of shirt to open doors when leaving public restrooms. At home, I have a fingernail brush at every sink & use them every time. My nails are fairly short because as a violinist & pianist, I have to keep them that way. Hand washing happens maybe 10-15 times a day, depending on what I’m cooking & how many small dogs I’m taking care of that day.

Thank you for the content "Docs". I would love to see an episode with you talking to your countryman Dr. Peter Attia. I loved this and couldn’t agree more! I do my very best to look after myself and prevention is always better than cure. I’m grateful that I don’t have to take any medications and I have good health but I do have to put the effort in to look after myself. I see it as my biggest investment. I so much wish here in the UK the NHS would try and focus more on educating people how to look after themselves rather than having to pick up the pieces and patch people up. I appreciate, however, some people just don’t want to know the alternatives. Well done and thank you for taking the time to try and get the message across.
