In the past three years, my husband and I gradually changed our diets according to what you have mentioned. He had gout and RA and PMR. We no longer (2 yrs) drink alcohol. He has lost 60+ lbs. (now 200lbs, 6’), no gout, RA, PMR. Walks 12+ miles at a time. No more inflammation. Please people believe it. He is 79, I, 77. You don’t have to feel old just because you have a high number age.

I'm 76 and regularly (4-5x a week) jog 4 or 5 miles, plus 30 min calesthenics, to kick off my active days. I agree with everything except pairing red meat with processed meat (and then focussing on nitrates). For years I have eaten a mostly home-cooked keto diet free of sugars, grains, starches, seed oils, and alcohol. I do better eating quality beef than poultry.

Some people might be sensitive to nightshades. Try removing them from your diet temporarily to see if you are one of them. There is a video from the Nutritionfacts channel that gave evidence to that effect, but I can't find it to give the link.

oftentimes the size of the meal, which is why technical french and spanish eating, involves stages with long periods in between if the dishes are high calorie, usually due to being high fat. And the timing of dessert. Needs long delay after sizable main course or meal. But in the end, it's that combo of a quite high total cal meal/s especialy if the are high fat with high carb. Great great ! Video. As a doc myself , I have recommended these same suggestions. I luckily got to live overseas as part of my childhood, in Europe and it is so easy to eat healthy. There are so many good things to eat. So many ways to prepare delicious vegetables and fruits with lean protein such as fish,chicken, turkey, and limited beef. It’s in the last 30-35 years that here in the USA, the large food industries have contaminated our ideas and force feed people. When I was in Jr high and HS, when we had a dance or other social activity , THERE WAS NO FOOD! It was great. We knew to eat before the activity and then go and enjoy the activity not go to eat. In the late 70s-80s , during the disco era in college, we would go dancing and not eat because we ate before going out. I feel food is the focus for all activities. Also, the style was to be thin , not huge.

The medical community really missed a great opportunity to talk about obesity when Covid showed up. The CDC & stats show it put morbidity at a higher risk. People's fear could've broken the PC ideas about fat shaming so we could again talk about the role of nutrition, weight control & health.
@IMeMineWho
@IMeMineWho Жыл бұрын
@@MonarchAZ The problem is how many doctors view obesity. One can be thicker than they used to be because of years of working out, running, rowing or dancing and the scale can be higher but they do not have much fat to their body. Another can be thin but flabby..and then others are clearly just obese. But many doctors only look at the scale. We need better education than what is currently on the internet.

Lol. Rocker chick..but pro dancer..i.e. not disco but rock dancing..dancing for us in 89-90s was done before..then for some ungodly reason, everyone wanted to go out to dinner after dancing or seeing a band or performing..(the performing thing I get..but after I do, I just want to go home..lol). I think your way made more sense as I'd slog along half asleep with the rest wishing everyone would go home and sleep as geez..it was 230 am! (The old joke from Tom Kiefer of Cinderella is the bassplayers and drummers go out and cause trouble, the guitarist mopes about how he sounded..and the vocalist everyone assumes is the wildest goes home to hope he or she sleeps because if he doesn't his voice will suffer). As an extremely insulin resistant person, I pretty much live on green leafy veggies, a hand full of berries and 5 oz of home raised organic meat per meal. People with a genetic variant of MTHFR are more sensitive to inflammation from nightshades due to the alkaloid solanine, which is the inflammatory chemical in nightshade vegetables . This can be tested in a simple blood test by Labcorp. Blueberries also have solanine, the inflammatory chemical in the nightshade family. Eating blueberries every morning led to finger stiffness for me, which went away when I stopped eating blueberries every morning.

Sensible quantities of fruit? Eat as much fruit as you want. It’s packed full of vitamins and antioxidants, and contains fiber, which greatly reduces the absorption of naturally occurring sugar. People think you should limit fruit because of sugar, but that’s not true because it’s a different process than eating added sugar in a processed food item like candy or crackers.

Starting small is still better than not starting at all. I was eating a LOT of red meat, fried/baked potatoes, and white corn. Now I eat more salmon, shrimp, chicken, pork and lamb instead. I still can't resist a deal on tri-tip or ribeye steaks so I generally share those meals with my son and my dog who craves red meat protein-so I'm not stuck eating the whole thing by myself. Pasta is probably the hardest thing to cut out of my diet so I've been trying to rotate in cabbage and onions sautéd in avocado oil, oven baked sweet potato and yam fries lightly coated with avocado oil garlic and pepper. Lots of sautéd squash. I also found that whole grain brown rice isn't so bad. I'm also a big mac and cheese fan. Does anyone know if the whole grain wheat pastas are worth the substitution or are they almost as bad for inflammation as the regular pasta? Baked potatoes are maybe once a week instead of 3 times a week. Red meat once or twice a week instead of 4-5 times a week. Trying to reduce down to once or twice a month. When my son is staying with his mom, I live on salads though I know dressings are high in dairy fats and/or sugar so I try to go light...like I'm dressing the salad in underwear instead of an entire outfit.

There’s a lot of nitrates in vegetables too, but nobody seems to think it’s a problem. As far as red meat goes, we’ve cut our consumption in half over the past few decades and there’s been a proliferation of chronic diseases.

Hi Bryan. Natural nitrates are safe and are found in vegetables and red meat. The nitrates added to processed meat is the problem. And less meat consumption is obviously not the cause of chronic disease. If you look at the areas of the world where people live the longest - blue zones - they eat very little meat. But it is still always your choice to eat whatever you want. Thanks for watching and subscribing

Love listening to you two Docs and the rapport that you have with both each another and your audience. You're never judgemental, only helpful. Must say that everything you said in this video, I can prove correct. I was a 35 year vegetarian and thought I was healthy. It wasn't until three years ago when I went vegan that my arthritis cleared up completely, my blood pressure dropped to 80/50 and my quality of life went through the roof. At 69, I'm now running at least a mile a day, climbing ladders like a 25 year old and dropped from 140 pounds down to 100 pounds (I'm 5'1"). Best thing I ever did for my body and psyche. Wish I had gone vegan 38 years ago and skipped the vegetarian thing. Too much fat, trans fat and processed food was killing me. Yogurt and cottage cheese are not health foods! @@Redcouriercat PROCESSED carbs. Whole foods carbs are the foundation of energy, problem is no one knows what those are, everything is so over processed. Whole oat groats, whole spelt berries, millet, whole kasha, quinoa (which I think is a seed actually), beans have carbs but the fiber slows down the insulin reaction. Just like fat, some are awful and some are not bad, the fat in salmon for example, omega 3's, and in flaxseed. and use veg oils to a minimum.

Sugar (especially fructose, i.e. fruit!) , "refined" carbs. But carbs are carbs are carbs (adding a bit of wheat germ and bran to white flour doesn't magically transform it from unhealthy to healthy), transfats (and industrial processed, high Omega 6 seed oils generally), alcohol, preservatives in processed meats. The video curiously put "red meats" in the same category as processed meats. There was no mention of problems with saline and additive injected poultry and pork, nor the toxic waste that is most farmed fish and highly processed faux meat (see seed oils, soy, additives), nor the mercury in seaford generally. Epidemiological studies correlating consumption of "red meat' to inflammation may perhaps fail to account for some key cofactors that are the real culprit (s). Many on carnivore diet report vastly diminished inflammation Also mentioned: gluten and nightshade vegs. Not mentioned (but associated with various health risks): oxylates, egg allergies (esp with industrial eggs vs free range organic), aflatoxins in peanuts, additives and preservatives ( many allowed in USA that are banned in civilized countries), pesticide and herbicide drenched GMOs, fried foods (overheated, rancid, degraded seed oils, charred and smoked foods, casien dairy, lactose, phalates from packaging and can liners (especially with acidic foods), phytoestrogens (soy), and "hyper palatable" and convenience foods that are simultaneously devoid of nutrition that stimulate overeating and food addictions. Polluted water (metals, pharmaceuticals esp estrogens, chlorine, phalates, fluoride, industrial effluents, microbes, etc) Lists of the worst foods you can eat and the best foods you can eat had the same item on both lists. Berries. If organic they're seen as very healthy. But if grown industrially, and drenched in pesticides, they're seen as very unhealthy.
@TalkingWithDocs
@TalkingWithDocs Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. We agree with a lot of what you shared. So just to clarify a few things. This video is about inflammation not about unhealthy foods. Red meat, whether people like it or not, has saturated fat and that causes inflammation regardless of how you cook it, what it eats or where it gets to roam. You can still eat it. Your choice but it does cause inflammation. And cancer for that matter. Yes we would agree that chicken and pork and fish all have significant negative health effects. Ideally people should not eat them regardless of where they lived before being consumed. Not the topic of this video though. As for white flour and sugar. Fruit is it inflammatory and your comment is inaccurate. Fructose in its natural form as fruit with the associated fiber is good for you. Do some fruits raise your blood sugar? Yes. Everything in moderation but it is not white sugar. Full stop. Same for white flour. The difference between white flour and whole wheat flour and whole grain flour is profound with respect to its glycemic index and health benefits. Yes don’t add stuff to white flour and try to make it healthy. Just don’t eat white flour. We agree don’t eat processed food. Organic when you can. The estrogen theory and soy has been disproven a thousand times sorry. Thanks for watching and subscribing

I am thin, in pretty good shape, work out (as best I can, certainly more limited now) and thought I was eating pretty healthy UNTIL I just recently read Eat to Live and have changed the way I think about food, nutrition and my health. (I don't think I ever thought about it before, I only watched calories to stay thin, probably suffered from malnutrition, lol!!). Do you think my pain and stiffness is still just part of the healing process and may never go away or can this possibly be chronic inflammation? Thanks for any advice!

One of the things I keep hearing about is tomatoes. They're very bad for arthritis along with all the fun things you just mentioned. You guys were surely the barer of bad news today. 😣 While I try to avoid these things you mentioned, I have to have a good ol' hamburger occasionally. 🍔 Thanks for sharing this great information that no one wants to hear! 😉

Very welcome Vickie. Should have watched to the end though we talk about night shades like tomatoes and the evidence is weak. Thanks for watching and subscribing

@@TalkingWithDocs I did watch to the end but I was referring more to other alerts from other sources. We're told all our lives to eat certain things then are suddenly told those things are bad for us in other ways. A lot of people try to eat things in moderation but sometimes that's even too much. Of course foods will affect our bodies but there are no warning labels on them and a lot of people are oblivious to what can harm them. But information like this is very helpful and because of doctors like you, more people can be more informed. And not all doctors are this forthcoming with their patients. In fact, this is the most information I've received on the subject. Tomatoes have been the most mentioned food from other sources. 😉 I didn't know there was going to be a test. 😋 But I do watch your videos all the way through. And I truly appreciate them!

I was sent to a nutritionist for an anti-inflammatory diet and got a LOT more foods on the prohibited list which stressed me out very much and stress also causes inflammation, so it's a catch-22.
