I'm 76 and regularly (4-5x a week) jog 4 or 5 miles, plus 30 min calesthenics, to kick off my active days. I agree with everything except pairing red meat with processed meat (and then focussing on nitrates). For years I have eaten a mostly home-cooked keto diet free of sugars, grains, starches, seed oils, and alcohol. I do better eating quality beef than poultry.

Great great ! Video. As a doc myself , I have recommended these same suggestions. I luckily got to live overseas as part of my childhood, in Europe and it is so easy to eat healthy. There are so many good things to eat. So many ways to prepare delicious vegetables and fruits with lean protein such as fish,chicken, turkey, and limited beef. It’s in the last 30-35 years that here in the USA, the large food industries have contaminated our ideas and force feed people. When I was in Jr high and HS, when we had a dance or other social activity , THERE WAS NO FOOD! It was great. We knew to eat before the activity and then go and enjoy the activity not go to eat. In the late 70s-80s , during the disco era in college, we would go dancing and not eat because we ate before going out. I feel food is the focus for all activities. Also, the style was to be thin , not huge.

The medical community really missed a great opportunity to talk about obesity when Covid showed up. The CDC & stats show it put morbidity at a higher risk. People's fear could've broken the PC ideas about fat shaming so we could again talk about the role of nutrition, weight control & health.
@IMeMineWho Жыл бұрын
@@MonarchAZ The problem is how many doctors view obesity. One can be thicker than they used to be because of years of working out, running, rowing or dancing and the scale can be higher but they do not have much fat to their body. Another can be thin but flabby..and then others are clearly just obese. But many doctors only look at the scale. We need better education than what is currently on the internet.

People with a genetic variant of MTHFR are more sensitive to inflammation from nightshades due to the alkaloid solanine, which is the inflammatory chemical in nightshade vegetables . This can be tested in a simple blood test by Labcorp. Blueberries also have solanine, the inflammatory chemical in the nightshade family. Eating blueberries every morning led to finger stiffness for me, which went away when I stopped eating blueberries every morning.

Sensible quantities of fruit? Eat as much fruit as you want. It’s packed full of vitamins and antioxidants, and contains fiber, which greatly reduces the absorption of naturally occurring sugar. People think you should limit fruit because of sugar, but that’s not true because it’s a different process than eating added sugar in a processed food item like candy or crackers.

Hi Bryan. Natural nitrates are safe and are found in vegetables and red meat. The nitrates added to processed meat is the problem. Love listening to you two Docs and the rapport that you have with both each another and your audience. You're never judgemental, only helpful. Must say that everything you said in this video, I can prove correct. I was a 35 year vegetarian and thought I was healthy. It wasn't until three years ago when I went vegan that my arthritis cleared up completely, my blood pressure dropped to 80/50 and my quality of life went through the roof. At 69, I'm now running at least a mile a day, climbing ladders like a 25 year old and dropped from 140 pounds down to 100 pounds (I'm 5'1"). Best thing I ever did for my body and psyche. Wish I had gone vegan 38 years ago and skipped the vegetarian thing. Too much fat, trans fat and processed food was killing me. Yogurt and cottage cheese are not health foods! Thanks for all your good advice!

@@Redcouriercat PROCESSED carbs. Whole foods carbs are the foundation of energy, problem is no one knows what those are, everything is so over processed. Whole oat groats, whole spelt berries, millet, whole kasha, quinoa (which I think is a seed actually), beans have carbs but the fiber slows down the insulin reaction. Just like fat, some are awful and some are not bad, the fat in salmon for example, omega 3's, and in flaxseed. and use veg oils to a minimum.

@@TalkingWithDocs I did watch to the end but I was referring more to other alerts from other sources. We're told all our lives to eat certain things then are suddenly told those things are bad for us in other ways. A lot of people try to eat things in moderation but sometimes that's even too much. Of course foods will affect our bodies but there are no warning labels on them and a lot of people are oblivious to what can harm them. But information like this is very helpful and because of doctors like you, more people can be more informed. And not all doctors are this forthcoming with their patients. In fact, this is the most information I've received on the subject. Tomatoes have been the most mentioned food from other sources. 😉 I didn't know there was going to be a test. 😋 But I do watch your videos all the way through. And I truly appreciate them!

I looked at the labels for non-alcoholic beers and they're much higher in sugars than alcoholic beers. So I compromise with low carb beer instead. Also important - the way this was presented implied that olive oil is bad too. We put olive oil over a Greek salad, not seed oil
@TalkingWithDocs2 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie. Not not all vegetable and seed oils are created equal. But in general limited added oil is always best. Some of the non alcoholic beers are as low as 35 calories. Just have to shop around. Becks was decent. Thanks for watching and subscribing

You guys are just too much! Thanks, loved it! So, I am trying to understand long-term healing and the inflammatory process. I have had 2 knee replacement surgeries, each a year apart, the last one being Dec 2020 and I am still in pain. Sometimes still swollen! Will this ever go away?? I am thin, in pretty good shape, work out (as best I can, certainly more limited now) and thought I was eating pretty healthy UNTIL I just recently read Eat to Live and have changed the way I think about food, nutrition and my health. (I don't think I ever thought about it before, I only watched calories to stay thin, probably suffered from malnutrition, lol!!). Do you think my pain and stiffness is still just part of the healing process and may never go away or can this possibly be chronic inflammation? Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for the wonderful videos and educational info. I'm evidence that people can change their tastes and the foods they enjoy. I grew up in the country with lots of garden vegetables, but also lots of beef. My family became vegetarian 20 years ago, and step by step we have changed the way we eat. In the beginning, we were eating "whites" but as our tastes lightened up, we explored more brown rice, whole grains, etc. Now we don't crave or even think about eating those foods. You learn that when you do decide to "splurge" and eat them, you don't feel good. It definitely becomes easier and easier to eat healthy because the cause and effect is crystal clear.

The studies on meat are for processed meat. Straight up grass fed steak isn’t the same as salami or your fast food burger. You speak to people on carnivorous diets and you will find majority are doing it to minimise inflammation. If what you guys are saying was true, then that wouldn’t be working for them
@TalkingWithDocs2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam. So that is partially true. Processed meats are exponentially worse. But red meat - grass fed or otherwise - is related to heart disease and cancer unfortunately.
