I'm 78 and I resistance train pretty intensely five days a week (some weights - mostly machines these days). I've been taking ~5 mg creatine monohydrate consistently for several months now. Definitely made a noticeable difference in my muscle strength, mass and endurance. No negative side effects. So, everything you said.

I'm 75 and I take Creatine. I was on testosterone supplement for 30 years until my endocrinologist took me off it because I had mild prostate cancer. I was desperate to find some energy boost as the lack of testosterone made me as weak as I was years ago before treatment. My muscles have gone into rapid decline and I have increased aches. So, Creatine has helped, albeit moderately but enough to keep going. I also take Citrulline which has a significant aid to blood flow health. I have had to give up sea kayaking while I adjust to the fall in energy, I hope to resume that soon, as it is a great way to exercise. So small benefits help a desperate man.

Love you guys! I'm a 74 year old male and wanted to start taking Creatine for its many benefits. I still do weight training with bands and was interested in creatine to help me retain muscle mass AND help the old brain. I do have a question that I don't believe you addressed. Does it affect prostate health? I read it can increase PSA levels. My PSA bounces around and I am checked annually by a urologist and THANK GOD everything is fine. I just don't want to push the scale in the wrong direction with a higher PSA and cause issues with prostate cancer. Would love your take on this. Keep up your informative videos which not only inform BUT also entertain with your humor. All the Best! Anthony

As we age muscle repair takes longer. I recently restarted working out with weights and soon found out that a muscle injury in the 60s talks a lot longer to heal than when I was in my 40s. So, I will be experimenting on myself the next time I pull/strain a muscle to see how Creatine helps with healing time.

I'm 58 and swim 3 to 4 days per week. On those days I take about a liter-sized water bottle with creatine, whey protein, and collagen powder. It is filled with 2/3rd water, and 1/3 cherry juice. Cherry juice is supposed to reduce inflammation, but it is also a carbohydrate for a little energy too. That is the theory at least. About a year ago I used to put in beet juice instead of cherry juice, but some people think that can lead to cancer. I don't know, but it caused me to switch. I'm interested in hearing comments on the beet juice vs cherry juice in the water bottle.

Another great vid Doctors. I do have to say, I have an eGFR below 59 at times (it varies between 57-69 over the last 17 years. I guess that's technically Stage one CKD, although thus far I have no symptoms, but I do have High Blood Pressure. I am on a very low sodium diet and eat only small portions of red meat😥 I get my eGFR and Creatinine tested every 6 months and see a Nephrologist every 2 years and is pleased with my numbers. I have had numerous kidney ultrasounds and a couple MRI's he says there's no actual kidney damage, so that's good. In regards to Creatine supplements he says it's one of those things that can benefit many, but for those with lower eGFR, and possible kidney disease, he says it's best to avoid it altogether, so I do.

A long time ago folks were saying it helped with increasing strength for lifting heavy weights. I was skeptical but I tried it and for me, it absolutely worked. My strength increased by quite a bit and I had/have been working out/exercising for many years prior. It works, at least for me. Since then, I have focused more on endurance training, so I stopped taking it a long time ago, but now that I am getting up there in age, I am considering restarting.

I'm 65, an avid cyclist, have done weight training for decades, and have been a vegetarian for about 8 years. I've been taking creatine monohydrate for about a month now, about 2-3 grams/day based on Dr. Greger's recommendation (see 'How Not To Age'). Two x 3/4 teaspoon dissolved in my tea every morning (dissolves instantly, with zero taste). I've noticed a big difference on my bike rides. In places where I used to get tired after a 50km ride I now feel fresh, and my recovery time is almost zero. Same thing in the gym. I've gained extra strength and recover almost instantly. Mentally I feel sharper too, and more alert. I'm not the type who likes taking any drugs of any kind, but after doing my research I decided to give this a try, and I'm very happy with the results so far, and I've experienced zero side effects.

My buddy and I were competing in triathlons in the 90's and read about Creatine to enhance performance. Weight gain was a concern but we were game to see what the net gains would be. We creatine loaded and experienced a 5 pound weight gain in one week but didn't see any appreciative gain in performance. In a sport where we were sharing grams to lighten the load. Granted there's a difference between static and dynamic weight gains we just couldn't see any difference in performance and it just didn't make sense to spend $11 for a titanium nut to shave a few grams let alone hauling 5 more pounds on the bike. LOL. Gotta try it though.

I wish more doctors were more knowledgeable in this regard, as it seems he scared me for no reason. I'd also like to get my elderly mother to start taking it, to hopefully improve her waning memory and muscle loss. I'm concerned though about dehydration, as I know these days that she doesn't drink enough water as is, and feel taking this supplement will compound this issue. I'm not sure what to do here.

Love watching you guys! I've taken creatine off and on over the past 20+ years, as fitness and weight-training have been mainstays of my own health routine for as long as I can remember. Now...I'm considering the potential benefits of supplementing with creatine, as I'm 12-days post-op from a total hip replacement, as of today. And though I can tell the pain in my actual joint is gone (I can literally balance on that extremity with the aid of a walker, with no pain in the actual hip joint), I can also tell how weak the surrounding muscles are, not only in the region of the surgery, but also to the hips, thigh and gluteus muscles of the opposite leg. In retrospect, this shouldn't be surprising to me, as I know my ability to keep these muscles toned and in shape, have been hampered due to the osteoarthritis of the involved hip. So, I'm hoping creatine can help as I rehab both legs and get stronger over the months ahead. Great video, as always. Thanks!

Can u do a video about artery compression/dissection? I'm currently in the hospital right now with a suspected dissection in an artery in my neck. Waiting on MRI yet. Been fighting neck pain and bad migraines for a few days now. Loss partial vision yesterday due to severe migraine. Been in and out of the ER/hospital for the past few days now.

Another great video Docs! Is creatine just used by people who work out? Is it something that could benefit anyone whether they power lift or not? I don't run marathons or lift weights but I could use a boost of energy just the same. I understood that this is better than taking steroids but is it suggested for regular people who don't do anything strenuous? Just wondering if it's a good supplement for everyone. Thanks for sharing another great video!👍

After all the hoopla about creatine of late, I tried a cycle. Mind you, I'm 63 and have been lifting, jogging, martial arts my whole life, w/an emphasis on lifting. I still lift 6 days a week, often 'heavy.' So I tried a cycle of creatine to see how it would impact me and all it did was make me gain weight, like 5 lbs in a week. No greater strength, recovery, endurance, etc. No increased or sharper brain function either. Caveat emptor.

You don't "cycle" creatine. It's not steroids. You can take it forever. One week is hardly any kind of trial.

Today i decided to let creatine go😢. Im suffering from bppv symptoms from it. Im constantly on and off trying to figure out if creatine was really the culprit and sad to say yes. Ive been taking it straight 1 year and it was fine. Until recently. So i stopped it for a couple of months and bppv symtoms went away. Then trying my luck again because i really want the strength and the fullness of my muscle. After 6 days of taking it bppv symptoms starts again😢. Its just so unfortunate to lose the good benefit of creatine.

When I completed my first creatine saturation, all my compound lifts jumped up by 15 pounds, some 25 lbs, in 2 weeks. That & I have a very physical job & noticed I was able to work longer & faster without fatiguing. I've seen noticeable differences if I lose saturation (due to inconsistent use) & then later regain saturation. Like how some are nonresponders to it, I believe there may also be super responders, & I may perhaps be one.

I realize personal anecdotes aren't worth much from a scientific perspective, but here is one more.... I'm 59 and started taking 5 grams of creatine monohydrate daily a few weeks ago. After only a few days, I noticed a general increase in energy level and the ability to exercise more and to recover more quickly. I have not noticed any significant side effects. I did gain five pounds (from 155 to 160 pounds), but am not sure how much of that is from creatine or from a change in diet. My plan is to stay on it for a few months and then stop to see if there is any change. (Note: edited to correct the dosage, which was misstated in the original note.)

I ‘m a 68 year old male and have been taking creatine monohydrate for almost 6 months, I didn’t load just take 3G per day in the form of 4 capsules (2 morning and 2 evening). My questions are, does taking capsules as opposed to powder diluted have a negative effect, and should I increase the dose to 5g as you and some others suggest. I do exercise almost daily using resistance training, I am awaiting knee replacement surgery which should be imminent and hopefully I’ll be able to get back to cycling as well. I look forward to hearing from you

Excellent info. You have a new subscriber. I am 65 years old and swear by it. I take the recommended dose and have found all the benefits you described with the most....the ability to get out a few more reps. It seems I don't get acidotic much and I stop at failure not pain. Have you done any videos on natural testosterone boosters? NuGenix or Tongkat Ali? It really would be beneficial to all of us Seniors who will stay NATTY forever.

My creatine story is that of 66 year old male with daily exercise routine that consists of 10 "hard minutes" on a rowing machine, followed by 20 "moderately hard" minutes on an elliptical trainer 5 days a week. 6 months ago I started adding 15 g of creatine monohydrate (1 Tablespoon) to my after-exercise smoothie. Anecdotally, I feel like I have more endurance since supplementing with creatine, but that could be an imagined placebo effect. However, my Apple watch health data shows that my VO2 max has improved steadily from 34.2 to 39.5 ml/kg/min over that 6 month period of supplementation. I've plateaued at just under 40 ml/kg/min, but I attribute the VO2 max gain to creatine supplementation.

Great information, thanks. I am in my 60's and have been taking the same brand of creatine for over 7 years. Recently this same brand, at 5mg with or without food, has caused me to have stomach upset, just stomach pain, no other issues but I am now unable to take due to an upset stomach. I do not have GERD or any other stomach issues. Any thoughts? Thank you.

I saw really good results with Creatine. I had rapid results. Stretch marks on my chest. I used to work 24 hours fitness. My job was to put all the weights back. 2 am start. I had about 2 hours to work out after I cleaned the Gym. I had a very nice body. Back then it wasn't any smart phones. I have 2 kinds of Creatine now. I'm not putting my body on the computer. Thanks Docs and peace.

I've been a steady weight for years, and I have been going to crossfit for 6 years, I started creatine a few months ago. I've gained a lot more than a few lbs, like 8-10lbs. It's a little frustrating given i work so hard and I can't fit in my jeans anymore. That said, I'm lifting heavier and have more energy in workouts.
