I am 55 and have been resistance training for the past 15 years and have not seen any noticeable reduction of muscle loss. I have never checked my testosterone levels but can attest that weight training is crucial as we age to maintain muscle mass. I take one multivitamin per day and no other supplements or performance enhancers. I ensure that I’m getting enough protein in my diet to build muscle and maintain it. If you’re not lifting, please start, as it’s not as intimidating as you might think. There is a way to slow the loss of mass and lifting is a huge factor, in combination with the things Dr Weening and Dr Zalzal discuss in this video. Thanks for all the great contents guys. I appreciate your knowledge.

Are you making any gains as far as getting stronger or more muscle mass or do you go light weights and don't worry about gains because you are only going to be as strong as you testosterone level let's you,meaning there is a limit and the limit goes down the older you are,you hit a wall and you can't get over it.unless you add to your testosterone level so you can work out 7 days a week try lifting heavy does not matter you are only as big and strong as your test level

Guys - another first class video. The striking thing about all these videos is that they are not only informative in an easy to understand presentation, they are highly educational and repeated viewings are an excellent investment of time. I'm a newly minted octogenarian and find myself having to fall back and refresh my memory of my high school biology and chemistry - this is genuinely healthy for the mind (I also recently finished reading Walter Isaacson's biography of Albert Einstein, and would recommend that the reader refresh his/her memory of high school physics for a full appreciation of the book). My hat is off to you both.

Something I rarely hear anyone mention in regards to testosterone is gut microbiome diversity. It seems intuitive to me. A diverse gut microbiome means you have a more diverse diet. A more diverse diet means you're more likely to get your micronutrient needs met, which likely contributes to testosterone production. A healthy diet is a diverse diet just like a healthy stock portfolio is a diverse portfolio. There are more things to worry about than macros and a few micronutrients, and diversity takes care of that.
@TalkingWithDocs3 күн бұрын
Well not sure what the data says about your microbiome and testosterone but we agree about diversity for sure!

I worked with a doctor who was self educated in Bio Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. We had many younger law enforcement patients as well as guys within the fire department agencies. They all were in fabulous shape and yet were complaining of feeling tired, with low libido. Their labs showed testosterone levels of 70 year-olds. We got them on testosterone and they reported feeling a ton better, increased energy, better able to work out and their wives were happy, except one who wanted to fill the syringe with water as she was tired of being chased around the bed every night.

I changed my diet and lost 25lb all while lifting weights. One year later, i scored 240 and 12 on blood work. I went to Science and Humans who took my issue seriously . Im on 2 packs of Andogel a day and feel great. I will get my blood work done next week, which Im not interested in as the score doesn't matter when im feeling good!!!

I had testicular cancer when I was 40 years old and had one testicle removed. Approximately 10 years later, I was diagnosed with lower testosterone than someone of my age so I started using testosterone patches. I only used them for a couple of years because I was concerned about side effects over long term usage. Was my concern of long term use justified.

I do weight training twice per week with Olympic free weights switching between a light, medium, and heavy weeks on weights as well as walking mostly daily. I also do bicycling weather permitting, eating correctly, but do eat a lot of protein. At 61 I feel good but not great compared to when I was 20 or 30 so I am chalking that up to age. At 64+ my T level is very low despite being a big strong guy. I deal with obesity, hypothyroidism, sleep apnea (greatly helped with a CPAP machine). I get up around 6 times a night to pee. I don't like the PMS-type mood swings. Stressed out about things that didn't bother me before. The chemicals and antibiotics in everything is killing our good bacteria which is needed for mental well being. Depleated soils. In an attempt to compensate, the T gel rub-on does help, yet it does swell my prostate and reduces my pee stream. Foods like red meat, clams help me. Could be the zinc or iron content of those. Weight lifting helps, but with low-T you have a loss in energy and motivation to lift especially with H.I.I.T

Great informative talks by you two wonderful Doctors- thanks for all you do. I have found regular weight training, staying lean, but the one key for me was intermittent fasting 16/8 which I started years ago, measured my T levels and today at 65 my T is at higher end of the reference range. My fasting has evolved to 19/5 6 days week, and 60 hrs once a month -FASTING actually raises your T while fasting - it works for me and I feel better. And yes sleep is paramount!!

Over the past 5 years I’ve had both of my hips replaced and a rotator cuff surgery so my exercise has been limited to walking and I’ve been working out 1-3 x a week with my BowFlex machine since after I recovered from last hip replacement surgery in Nov 2023.

I'm 57 and have a few of the symptoms shown in this video. The doctor who fixed my meniscus tear said I'm to only do low-intensity exercises. I refuse to go into a swimming pool. I also have a tear near my rotator cuff on my right shoulder that I'm supposed to do exercises to strengthen the muscles in that area. What other exercises can I do to hopefully help resolve a possible low T issue? I can't lift weights to build muscles but would like to know what else I can do to build muscles to not have a low T issue.

Whats normal,the government keeps lowering the max for testosterone .at one time 1200 was normal for the high what levels did men have 100 years ago.dont go to a gp doctor they have no idea because they are not trained to worry about your levels,my foc said you have plenty of testosterone ,he did not want to be bothered and test is a controlled drug so they don't want to get involved in prescribing it.

At 71 I have had thoughts about testosterone supplementation even though m testosterone levels are "normal" for my age. This gets back to what is normal, a number based upon a median of others in my age group or the levels that we had as teenagers or in our 20's? Yes, my levels are normal for my age, but compared to a 20 year old, my testosterone is quite low. If want to keep muscle mass (not bulk but reduced age related sarcopenia) then maybe supplementation is the route to go, as the factors you talk about may increase testosterone levels somewhat, but nowhere near enough as compared to the levels of being younger. What do you think?
@TalkingWithDocs2 күн бұрын
We think your levels go down for a reason. If you’re in the normal range and don’t suffer from any of the symptoms mentioned we would tend to not think about supplementation which is not without risk. We are planning a video about it

I would love to you guys as doctors do a deep dive into alcohol. Even if one person watches it and is saved. I say this because my husband had a heart attack in June of this year and Every Single Doctor repeatedly told him he should never drink again. I heard the word wernacke-korsakoff...he was treated for it but didn't have it...just all to say my husband has been a functional alcoholic his entire life and has not had a drink since his heart attack because the doctors finally got through to him how absolutely dangerous it is. I listened to your informative KZbin presentation “Boost Your Testosterone Naturally”. What is missing is a fact that is not well known in the medical community. As men age the valves of the internal spermatic veins near the prostate are destroyed. This results in accumulation of testosterone in the internal spermatic veins locally which leads to BPH and prostate cancer due to hyper proliferation of prostate cells. The levels of Testosterone near the prostate are 100-fold higher than in the peripheral circulation. I would be glad to send you a PowerPoint presentation with more details about what is the cause of BPH and prostate cancer and, more importantly, the solution that will prevent both. (I am a retired physician with 35 years of professional medical research.)

Alcohol seems to be the root of all evil as it does nothing positive to our bodies. Sure I used to drink when I was in my 20's as a lot of people do. Then people at work would occasionally go out for drinks after work. But I haven't had a drink in a very long time because it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Plus I'm on medication that can't be mixed with alcohol. It's very difficult when you discover that a family member is an alcoholic. I realize a lot of people who are stressed turn to alcohol to relax and unwind from their job. But drinking until they pass out is just masking the problem. I never begrudged anyone drinking until I saw it kill someone close. I think someone should be able to enjoy an occasional drink but unfortunately there's nothing healthy in alcohol. There are a lot of closet alcoholics, ones that will tell you that they're no longer drinking or who have cut it down to once a week. But in reality, it's just part of their daily routine. If you confront someone who constantly drinks, they will deny it or make excuses. You've mentioned not drinking in several of your videos. This is wise advice but it often falls on deaf ears. So when you make a video about alcohol, please remember to include the amount of people who have died from it. Especially the ones who drank themselves to death but also including the accidents caused from driving drunk. I'm writing this now because I'll probably have a problem responding to the actual video. Alcohol has made a hard impact on my family. Plus I don't have anything to say about testosterone. I love how you inform us about so many good things and even give us some laughs! You're a credit to your profession! Thanks for sharing another great video!

Dr Zalzal has the same information and opportunity in his life but is much more subdued than Dr Weening. I don't mean to imply that Dr Zalzal is lazy, you don't get to be a Dr. if you are lazy, I mean that people are all different so doesn't that mean that a lower energy level can just be part of who you are and there is just no way to improve it? We all just need that one chemical that gives us the little bump to get us off the couch and DO what we need to, some don't possess that ability and it's a terrible reinforcing circle.
