An investigation reveals that King Charles and Prince William’s estates are collecting millions from charities and public services like the NHS, state schools, and prisons.
The Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, tax-exempt estates funding the royals, are set to make at least £50m from leasing land to public services. For example, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust will pay £11.4m to store electric ambulances on Duchy land. The King will also earn £28m from windfarm cables crossing the foreshore.
William’s Duchy of Cornwall has a £37m lease with the Ministry of Justice for Dartmoor prison and has made £22m from renting out Camelford House since 2005. Additionally, the Duchy charges the Royal Navy over £1m for jetties and makes about £600,000 from six state schools.
In other less controversial news, during his documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, the Prince of Wales was jokingly asked if he was "trying to escape" chores while visiting a homeless charity.
The first episode, which aired on October 30 on ITV, highlights William’s efforts to address homelessness through The Royal Foundation's Homewards program. William was shown helping in the kitchen and chatting with guests at a Christmas dinner at The Passage.
