A teenage girl who stabbed three people at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman warned classmates she would stab a teacher before the attack, a court heard.
The 14-year-old allegedly told another student she might "do something stupid" that could get her expelled. She admitted to stabbing two teachers, Fiona Elias and Liz Hopkin, as well as a pupil, but denies attempted murder during the April 24 incident in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.
Her father testified in Swansea Crown Court that he didn’t check her bag that morning, even though she had previously been caught with a knife.
Alex Phillips speaks with former MEt police detective superintendent, Shabnam Choudhri.

Not exactly, it's basically the erosion of community causing this. Everyone is separated by walls both physical and emotional. Broken homes and poor parenting amplify this to the extreme. Frankly, we are missing a core part of society that enforces discipline because positive masculinity has been taken away in favor of sexual freedom. You are right in a way it's just another layer in the onion of crap were in that separates people from shame and punishment by allowing people to exist without the capability of even communicating or abiding any laws because they are unaware of them and nothing is done to change that. You look at America and their people coming in they can't drive yet the government gives them cars and licenses and they crash constantly into buildings and others. Two-tier policies it's almost like if you are unaware of the laws you don't have to follow them if your a foreigner.

@piecesof79 Video games certainly do glamorise and normalise violence and crime. One that springs to mind is grand theft auto, where carjackers are portrayed as heroes. So of course kids think stealing cars is a cool thing to do.

Import the third world and get third world behaviours. We didn't worry about knives in schools during the 80s and 90s because carrying a knife was seen as the act of somebody who was weak and too cowardly to fight fairly. We have absorbed backwards ways of behaving through osmosis. Culture matters and ours has been dragged down to the level of tribal warfare imported from abroad because it hasn't been defended one jot for at least quarter of a century. Regular Stabbings in the street are not part of our culture.

I agree, but it is also the system permitting these pupils into the main stream. Public education has been turned into a 'human right' to the degredation of those who conform to it. It used to be you were 'offered' a place at school and you' applied' for one. This mentality of everyone must be educated and is entitled to it, is a marxist nonsense. The education system should be provided if you conform to it and therefore withdrawn if you do not meet the standards required. At some point familial and personal responsibility has to be re integrated into the system. We do not pay taxes for blatantly ineffiicient marxist pipe dreams. We no longer operate within realistic, attainable parameters, everything has become idealogical and politicised, flawed ideology I may add.

Fk all why because parents don't bring kids up anymore, why because the tools to punish their kids have been took away from them by the government, instead of grounding your kids for a week or two to there bedroom for doing something they shouldn't of done, they are put on a Naughty Step for 10 minutes, then explain to in a very nice way why they were there and then let off the step, that isn't really a punishment because all the kid learns is I can do something I'm not ment to do and all that will happen is sit on a step and get a ice cream or something no big problem at all, and kids grow up learning from there peers what ever their friends are doing they are also going to do, parents have no control of what they're kids are doing when they are out and about with their friends, and because no one in the community knows or are even bothered about what other people kids are doing anymore unlike back in the 80s 90s where everyone knew each other and if we did something wrong we knew someone would see us who knows our parents and we knew they would take us to our parents, and we knew we would get a good telling off smacked and grounded for a week to our bedroom with nothing in it to kept us busy, this is how we as kids learn their was Consequences to our actions that we really didn't want to happen to us this is what kept us in check, now kids have know respect for there parents because they don't fear what they will do to them and this gives them the go ahead to disrespect everyone and it makes them feel in power that they can do what ever they want this all started when parents wasn't allowed to disaplin their kids properly and now kids are out of control it's maid bad kids worse and good kids feel they have to protect them self's the best way they can because they are the one's who have to deal with these bad kids that nothing really happens to them if you tell on them infact it causes more problems for you if they find out it was you that told on them so they say nothing it's really simple and when I was a kid I was good as gold around my parents but once out of their sight I was doing all sorts of things I wouldn't dream of doing round my parents because I knew I would be in big trouble and grounded for a week maybe longer depending on what I was court doing it's simple facts the government should have stayed out of the home yes there was parents who abuse their kids no matter if they was good or not and them people are still around today the government didn't stop them kids from being abuse the only thing they stop was good parents from punishing their kids when they did something wrong and now we have what we have now we didn't have this problem in the 80s 90s because our parents could smack us and ground us to punish us properly for doing things we shouldn't be doing so no parents are not to blame for the way they kids are today it's the government fault because they took away the parents power and the things kids are being taught in school now compared to back in the 80s 90s is so depressing and un real they wonder why so many kids have mental health problems and take their own life and that's because they are being brainwashed in to believing things that isn't reality kids are more confused about life more then we ever was they are being told they are something they ain't and if they go against it then they are the problem and this is what caused kids and teenagers to have mental health issues and why more and more teenagers are taking their own lifes if not others lives I feel so sorry for them because they shouldn't be put through all this bs in school leave kids alone they don't need to be learning about gay people in school they need to learn how to read write and count add up take away and all that and this country they are in history and the history of every other country in the world so they know no country on this earth has a good history every country has done really bad things to other countries and teach them why they did these bad thing what happened for them to do these things the ins and outs of it so when it comes to the country they was born in to and sre apart of their understanding how and why we are the way we are in this world then they won't be self destructive to their own country and people because they understand their isn't any country that has done more for the human race then there country and how to make it in life and be happy with who they are in this world and not to let anyone bring them down no matter what colour they are because they are all British people it's not fking hard to do and bring back smacking your kids not abusing them just punishing them for doing something wrong so they fking learn and learn fast then most the bs we see happening now we wouldn't be seeing happen kids and teenagers will be much happier in life.

I am mid 60s and was brought up in a world where parents and teachers were probably the most important people in our lives. Our parents took their job very seriously and so did our teachers, we lived in a structured world where adults were in charge and there was discipline. It was a nice world, we had a lot of fun, we enjoyed learning, and all of our sources of amusement were wholesome. She's probably been building up to this for years. Here's how it worked when I was a teacher in the UK... Very young, very poorly behaved primary school children quickly work out they can do as they like, and nobody can stop them. Over the years, they develop and practice their disruptive behavior to see what they can get away with. There are no limits. If only to be allowed to teach the rest of the kids, teachers will try all sorts of time-consuming strategies to curb the bad behavior. But the disruptive child knows these efforts will be doomed to failure, and they will eventually be 'permanently excluded' from school. The child also knows his or her parents will appeal the exclusion, because they are guaranteed success. The child will then return to school triumphant, and the entire debacle will start all over again.

... And eventually, the child does something bad enough to get the police involved, but they are then treated with kid gloves, with everything catering to their 'vulnerabilities' and seldom any real consequences, even for quite serious offences. After a couple of times in police custody, kids are blase, because being arrested or put before the court is no longer alarming, and has become merely a badge of honour. Behaviour often escalates, and suddenly they are adults, being told 'no' for the first time in their lives and facing adult punishments, with their future lives already curtailed by their criminal record. The coddling has gone too far, and none of it does them any favours in the long run.

@@dexine4723 There's a point here few people will see. Let's say a very disruptive child remains in the same primary school from Reception to the end of Year Six. This means an entire cohort of children will have their learning experience marred throughout the primary years. For this group of children, there's a price to pay in terms of academic attainment. This is because everything about the quality of teaching and learning is dictated by the behavior of the disruptive child. As you point out, very early on the disruptive child will be labelled as the victim. This is the 'get out clause' exploited by the leadership of education authorities.

There is are no PRU units in Swansea in Wales, anymore, they stopped them, due to funding and decided that those pupils have to be incorporated into schools without more funding. I was training and doing volunteering when this started. It was causing massive problems. Half the police time was spent dealing with kids, beating up other pupils and filming it. Then the parents were getting involved as well, bullying the kid that was beaten up on social media. Police in Swansea have actually taken these issues forward in Swansea with both parents and adults. I've called out myself to parents, you have to be really thick skinned though to be able to take everything thrown at you, when you work with kids from disruptive backbrounds. The kids then actually really respect you because you care about by putting in boundaries. I be met some really bad teAchers and support staff who are too soft to be in schools to be honest. If you cannot control a classroom or gain respect that his can you teach effectively. Yes, terrible parenting is unfortunately bringing down the education system. Case in point, mum who went on hold to spain?? When 11 year old was in court for rioting!

Discipline in schools is largely impossible due to beaurecratic 'liberalism' and lawyers, as well as bad parents. There are many pupils who years ago would have been assessed and then sent to a 'special school', to cater for their needs, instead of lowering the standards alongside the disruption of the majority of the main stream. Our teachers are largely powerless even if they were inclined to intervene, they are sitting ducks to an extent. Welcome to the self righteous, libernazi future! I heard about these issues decades ago in Europe, now they are here. A mentality that is destroying our institutions from the inside. Equity combined with the death of meritocracy, resulting in far more damage than you would initally assume. Standards were there for a reason.

This is obviously awful but I have no doubt it's more common nowadays, but even when I was in a British High School in 1998 there was a girl in my year group who was also known to carry a knife and it was exactly as they described; so no-one would mess with her, and no-one did. She did get expelled for pulling the knife out during Science class and threatening a male teacher with it. Fortunately she didn't actually use it, but honestly, as a pupil at the time, the entire thing was treated as kind of an urban legend and was entertainment at the school. The girl who got expelled did get a name for herself in the community, which was exactly what she wanted. I would say that the threat of violence was always present in a typical British High School (although usually between the students and not involving the teachers), but when I was growing up, it was rarely carried out and even if it was, it would be punches and kicks rather than weapons. So sad to see this becoming so normalised though 😢

Back in the 80's as a school kid I had several knives. Usually penknives, but when "First Blood" came out, I got my hands on a "Rambo" style knife - with a serrated edge on top of the blade and a compass on the top that screwed off to reveal a "survival kit". Yes, it was big and imposing. But not once did I ever think about turning it on anybody, not even when I had it on my while I was being bullied ! The trouble is, these days there is no deterrent any more. There's no discipline and there's also no accountability or moral compass either.

I'm not saying that the USA is any kind of shining example to be followed, but if parents KNEW that they could be made personally liable for their childrens crimes and misdemeanours, they might actually pay attention to what the children are doing.

Ever listened to most of the UK rap & drill tracks the kids listen to these days - boasting about 'chinging' people, zombie knives etc... look at their videos, gangs with balaclavas boasting about all this stuff readily available on KZbin & social media platforms. That's where it stemmed from without a question of a doubt! When I was young we were into raving & wearing smiley faces on our clothes, the music was all about love, everyone on the dance floor having a great time. Then Grime & Drill music hit, full of violence, boasting about it all, glamorising gangs & knife carrying - why is it even a question??!! IT'S JUST BLOODY OBVIOUS & something that that policewoman won't admit... British films & tv series however well written & acted they are just simply glorify, in kids eyes, this behaviour - Blue Story, Top Boy any age group can watch them because they're now streamed into their homes & watched by kids on their lap tops... No age guidance stops them looking at it full of their favourite, chart topping rap artists... This most definitely has not helped this growing heinous situation...

Whilst not typical, it is horrendous and it is the trend ie knives in school. There is likely a wider context that began around the end of the 80s beginning with the woke banning competition, then student entitlement when teacher's had to be far more careful or have their careers ended, leading to limited teacher authority, then limited parental support for teachers, leading to increased need for verbal strictness and harsher school rules to compensate for losing any physical control, making the teacher/student gap widen, then gang culture imported from abroad, then drugs and knives prevalent in schools imported from abroad, and now behaviour plummeting, to quote the BBC on that "[from a teacher] behaviour was a "never-ending battle". Another said spitting, swearing and chair-throwing were among the things happening often.". Throw in other factors such as the pressures students are under with social media, worsening mental health, far higher rate of SEN designations rightly or wrongly, lack of responsibility, falling attention spans, schools judged by results leading to the focus on exam delivery rather than real skills, the loss of curiosity, exploration and fun, class sizes on the rise and education minister after education minister unable to pay it more than lip service. Anyway, horrendous situation, very sad.
