"BBC Obsessed With Glastonbury Because It's So Middle Class" | FURIOUS Kevin O'Sullivan

Kevin O'Sullivan and Rebecca Ryan from Defund The BBC, criticise the broadcaster's extensive coverage of the Glastonbury Festival, arguing that the organization's priorities are misplaced and its justifications for the large staff presence and hours of coverage are unjustified.
They highlight the contrast between the BBC's lavish spending on the festival and its treatment of pensioners, who are bullied into paying the TV licence fee.
"The BBC are obsessed with Glastonbury, probably because it's so middle class."
Kevin O'Sullivan says BBC staff have "a bit of a jolly" at TV licence payers' expense during Glastonbury.

@@lucius4556I couldn't have put it better myself... I first went to Glastonbury festival back in 1971, I was 11 years of age and went there with my sister. It was a quid to get in and Michael Eavis gave away free milk.. I was a big Hawkwind fan and only went to see them perform, but also saw Joan Baez, Gong and a few others.. Pink Floyd were meant to be playing there but they cancelled due to stage not being sufficient for their equipment... Now I'm 64 years old and will confess I've never heard of probably 90% of the bands that are performing this year..... I live not far from Pilton and we call it "The 3 C's Festival" where I live..... Commercialised Corporate Crap festival.

Lots of smaller festivals could use some publicity from the Beeb. Small teams sent to those, would seem more worthwhile than an entire army at Glastonbury.

£355 for a ticket? That's a week's wage. Lol if they had any shame they'd say nah but hope they aren't the types who originally went to Glastonbury nor will they ever know what those people think. It's a holiday for everyone there (bbc) and for everyone else paying for them to go there. Well earn more money? Lmao

It's enormous if you've ever been. Scarily so, just a big money mill that is super extortionate. Jo Wiley really irritates me at Glasto time. She gets into an almost orgasmic apoplexy about the alterbative bands there. She seems to suffer from Dorian Gray syndrome, too. It dominates radio 6 at this time and swamps the normal schedules. I just find the acts total and utter shite. It's not music, its pop puppetry with piss poor Indie thrown in as a token gesture. The whole shebang is a little microcism of a wider malaise, and that is conspicuous consumerism meets the death knell of decent music. 💀👻😆

Glasto - for people who wear Le Chameau wellies, wouldn't know a good tune if it hit them on the head, support the music industry by downloading illegally, and can't be bothered to finished words like BBC sports commentators who refer to pens in the prem! All the pain and cost of getting a ticket to watch the back of a flag whist a band you have no interest in lip sync to a backing track. BBC licensing fee has little to do with what the event actually represents but keeps the BBC aligned with the chardonnay set.
