Chaga is not a mushroom. Chaga is the common name for a perennial canker or sterile conk that commonly forms on a birch tree (Betula papyrifera, paper birch) after it has been infected and colonized by the mycelia of the pathogenic fungus Inonotus obliquus. The part of this fungus that one harvests is the outward manifestation of the fungal disease.

all antioxidants are most certainly NOT pigments - as there are a bunch of animal produced organic compounds that have the antioxidant function that your body naturally produces (and these are the most common antioxidants your body uses) - while the most common plant produced antioxidants we get from food are vitamins, the most effective ones being tocopherols (vit E) and then of course ascorbic acid (vit C) which is probably the most common one if a bit less effective - neither of which are pigments.. soo not sure where you came up with that

@@StarOnTheWater I was mistaken. You are correct. You made a very good point. His statement was incorrect. I have a question.. That got me thinking and I don't know the answer I have vitamin C powder here, listed as ascorbic acid, and it's white, just like you said..no pigment. But then, I just learned that ascorbic acid is 'created' in a lab and not what we consider a 'natural'. I never knew that. Is it possible that naturally occurring vitamin C (or antioxidants) have color while manufactured ones may not have color or was he just making a completely wrong statement?

I don't think it was a stupid question. She was trying to make a connection between mushrooms being healthy and an animal which eats mushrooms also being a healthy food. It makes sense. Also, even though I think this guy's really smart, I believe his answer was basically improvised guesswork, since he replied a categoric "no" with absolutely no knowledge of the matter. the healthy properties in animals we eat definitely derive from their diet - ie. aquaculture salmon has absolutely zero nutricional value because it eats human-made pellets. That was actually the only thing this guy says in this video which didn't make sense in my view so, in my view, it was her question which made sense and his answer which didn't.
