Prof. Nordgren, about your informal survey-5 _v_ 20 minutes, dog shelter _v_ frog research: After the participants said "yes," did you actually make them spend that amount of time? Or were you simply looking for a "yes" or "no"? If you did take their time, I hope you also donated the promised money to the organizations. I myself donate a lot to charities and to people in genuine need. But I would not give a deceptive person even a second of my time. In your classification of frictions, I think it is called "Reactance." _"Give me some of your time, and I'll donate my money to charity."_ Really? No wonder so many people saw through the deception at once and said "no." These times that we live in-we're all very, very jaded. And with good reason. If anything, I'm surprised at how many people said "yes." I'd call them naïve and gullible. (Assuming, of course, that the promised donation-not something else-was their motivation to spend time with you.)
