The difference; I was jealous of United because they won everything on merit, they capitalised on their fame and success to further their fame and success, and I wanted Liverpool to pull their finger out and capitalise on their own success which it took us decades to start doing. City, however, I am not jealous of. If Liverpool mimicked City's blueprint to success it would be a stab through my heart, because nothing we'd ever win would be on merit or respected as an achievement by the wider Football community. It is an achievement to generate and invest your own capital into your own club and be successful from it, it is cheating for some rich guy to pump more capital into you than anyone else can hope to match to make you the best.

Consider the comparison between the feelings of Leicester City fans after their solitary title victory and the feelings of Real Madrid fans after their 35th title victory a few years ago. The former were utterly elated; they'd experienced something so incredibly rare that it meant everything to them. As for the latter, they, whilst certainly joyous of winning another trophy, were no doubt comparatively *less* elated than Leicester fans as they've become so accustomed to winning the big prizes. Manchester City a matter of years ago were scarcely better than teams like Norwich and Ipswich historically. They’ve become a superpower in the sport recently.
