Iam Portuguese. For the people blaming Martinez calling him weak, its our Football association that is a problem. They sacked Santos (a man that was here when we won our only euro) because he benched Ronaldo. I remember the big uproar our FA caused in the last tournament when Bruno scored a floating ball that looked like it touched Ronaldos head for a goal and Ronaldo celebrated like it was his goal, it was Brunos goal and the FA did everything to show it was Ronaldos goal, it went to rhe media and eveything in the end Adidas came out with their technology that proved it never rouched ronaldos head but our FA had done eveything ro bow down to Ronaldo. We had better attackers that coukd have effected the game yestersay jota, Ramos who scored a hattrick in WC RO16 all benched because we set up the team to play for Ronaldo and it hurt us. I said a few seasons ago Ronaldo neesed to be phased out so we can create our next crop of leaders but weve made our team all about one man, ronaldo. I appreciate eveything hea done for Portugal as in rhe country, building academys, tourism, resources etc but in terms of our footballing team hes crippled us as much as hes contributed.

I'm Portuguese and i agree 100% with Tony Cascarino!!! I'll add a bit more to it, Bernado Silva was just as bad as Ronaldo, he failed to cross the ball or offer anything creative up front. In fact when you watch Bernado playing for Man City (yeah i know 2 different teams bla bla) he is constantly crossing the ball for Haaland and causing problems to the opposition. Yes, Bernado works hard but offered nothing up front. Not good enough when he is one of the most talented players in that Portugal squad. Messi is a creative cerebral player, so even though he has aged he can still play through-balls between the lines and make those decisive passes. Messi also has a team that will run through walls for him. CR7 however, was a superb player who harnessed his athleticism and physical attributes. The issue is, as he gets older these characteristics wane rapidly and hence his timing and coordination is all off. It also means he cannot press, run-in behind, maintain shooting power and accuracy etc. He should retire gracefully, like Ibrahimovic. Cristiano's tears are for himself and the personal realisation, which he is struggling to accept, that he is no longer what he once was. His narcissistic behaviour ruined Portugal's tournament this year.

I didn't watch all the games, but did Diogo Jota even get to play? Those Portugal games I actually did see I thought Ronaldo contributed with absolutely nothing. He was on the pitch for the sake of being on the pitch, he never contributed with anything of value for his team mates. I think this is a great disgrace from Martinez side. Even if Jota wasn't available, playing Ronaldo before anyone else is a great insult. You simply can't live by your name and reputation forever. Plus, why is Ronaldo still taking freekicks?
