@@skygazer6898 I understand that but Mark Hollis and Talk Talk were generally ignored in the 80s (except for "It's My Life") Their label, EMI, did not do a good job of promoting outside of UK and Europe - Mark fought with them constantly over creative and marketing issues and the band suffered as a result. Artistically, they were admired and respected yes, but they never really "broke" outside of Europe.

@@rustybearden1800 Yeah exactly, lots of people know about It's My Life, the Party's Over, and even Colour of Spring (and they are good tracks/albums), but when you start veering into Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock, people lose interest. oooooh! I like the interpretation of "there" for the verses. Genius doesn't list anything after "I see people crying," mainly because it's probably just Mark saying ing weirdly, as seen more clearly in the later verses. I myself hear, and interpret it as him saying "in hell" during the verses, because it sounds cool and makes sense for the subject matter, but "there" makes a lot of sense as well.

So many layers to this song. Mark's voice is so unique and beautiful. Paul Webb's basslines always gave these songs such brightness. Hate that I didn't get to experience this band in the 80s as I was just a baby. But I'm glad I found them when I did.

Yes, fantastic arrangements and just brilliant songwriting. I love that their songs don't just go from point A to B, they go on an incredible journey, often through different keys and different instrumentation to get from A to B. You can listen to them many times without ever getting bored.

RIP Mark Hollis

Fenomenalny utwor, jeden z moich kilku, kilkunastu ulubionych tej kapeli. Zawsze bardziej liczyla sie tu dla mnie warstwa muzyczna, jest niezwykla i dobrze, wspolczesnie brzmi nawet ad 2024. Potezna scianu dzwieku, cos pieknego.
