45:13 *raises hand immediately* It was Wilbert, and all of the Awdry family, who brought these stories to life, and documented the history of Sodor and it’s various fleets of railways, roads, and other forms of transportation that has shaped my childhood, and inspired me to make my own stories, and document the history of my home area in Western Australia in the form of a book I’m writing. Cheers to you guys up there in crovan’s gate/towyn, especially to Tim for bringing us this lecture and… I hope that skarloey didn’t clog up his boiler tubes from eating Luke’s laptop 😂

@@TalyllynRailway1865 its lovely watching this again. couldn't help notice that Mr Dunn had a steam engine badge on his waist coat. I have one in the form of what must be a GWR 57XX Pannier tank engine. was that meant to be a RWS reference at all? sorry to hear that one of the SKR engines used a lap top as fuel to make a full head of steam

I always believed that the 1 and 2 tacked onto the end of Henry’s was not necessarily proof of a replacement engine but a rebuilt and redesigned locomotive similar to the RAF and Royal Army system of denoting a design change or rebuild to a plane or tank.

@QueerOkie

A lot of real life locos were considered to be same even though the rebuild had only incorporated the frames or smoke box of the original (perhaps even as little as the name and number plates). Had to do with book keeping I think. Easier or cheaper to say 'rebuild' than 'replacement'.

The island is really a fictional island but however fantasy can be good because of the wide variety of negativity that is heard WAY too often on the news such as greed which is what our major corporations adore and the great big around of shootings that is going on. Although that I don't ever remember a theater being on the island in any of the Thomas seasons, but when a couple of the castles were reopened, one of them held concerts. So I think there may have been a theater inside one of those castles.

This history is fantastic, I've always loved the deeper lore of Sodor and while fan fleshing outs of the ideas presented in the books are fun, it's nice to know what the (and I use this word carefully) canon of the matter is. Speaking of canon, it's been my head canon that the mainland railways sort of knew Thomas was a troublemaker and lost him on purpose, and were glad to be rid of him when Toppem bought him. With the Fat Controller being the one who later straightened the cheeky little engine out, as it were.
@MrNoUsername
@MrNoUsername Жыл бұрын
That headcannon does make a lot of sense! And it does explain why the LBSC written off Thomas as "Lost on war service" Thomas has the extended side tanks and arrived on Sodor in 1915 so he has to be built before or around that time. In my headcannon, E2 tank No.105 is Thomas as it was built in 1915 and was the first engine of the class' second batch to have the extended side tanks. So realistically, Thomas has to be No.105 assuming he's not a prototype before that engine as some other headcannons picture Thomas to be Assuming he was sold shortly after being built, then he could've only been with the LBSC for a couple weeks (or a month at a hard push) before he was sold to the NW

42:35 It would be incredible for a George England locomotive to be able to work on the Talyllyn's 2ft 3in gauge! Hopefully the Ffestiniog will build a replica of their No.6 Little Giant one day; perhaps if they do, they can enable for interchangeability between the two gauges - just a thought. Also, love the travel sequence at the beginning - the scene at 3:51 of Tim jogging in front of a Google Maps backdrop had me in stitches!

Here are some things I noticed as well as some questions: -Tim pronounced “Harwick” as “Harrick”. This reminds me of a theory I’ve had recently. British town names like Norwich and Greenwich are pronounced as “Norrich” and “Grenich” respectively with a silent W. And Harwick is very much spelt with a W in the middle. Does this mean we’re pronouncing Harwick wrong and have been doing it for years? -Do the notes say what happened to Neil after the NWR was formed? Was he preserved? Was he scrapped? WHAT HAPPENED?! -What is the Tidmouth Kipper Smoking Process? -Why did the notes (And for that matter, the IOS book) never mention the Cronk and Harwick Rly or the Ballaswein Tramway? Did Wilbert forget about those? It certainly is unusual to forget something that appeared when he first constructed the lore. I’m not making that up. The Tramway has been a thing since the 1950s. Look up Awdry’s 1950s Sodor Map. It’s there. -Where is any mention of Bloomer? Was he is these notes? If so, how did we find out about him?
