in that case the lens will do all the stabilization and not the body which only applies when doing video really. if shooting stills the lens stabilization should help you plenty unless you shoot below 1/50th of a sec all the time . with IBIS i the camera AND with a lens that has VC you can handhold down to 1/15th of a sec easily but best to try and stay 1/60 or faster espeucally with a zoom lens like this at the long end. VC/IBIS can only do so much and you still need a steady hand to hold the cam/lens and not jam the shutter button.

@RealNightFuryX
@RealNightFuryX 3 жыл бұрын
It works with IBIS.
@sjsphotog
@sjsphotog 3 жыл бұрын
if on a tripod its best to turn VC off so it doesnt confuse the VC vibrat control. if handheld turn it on. IBIS is the sensor moving. if using a Sony lens with OSS then the IBIS and the OSS inside the lens work in tangent to get the best of the stead shot and IBIS together so you maximize it. I think the camera will do 2 or 3 axis and the lens will do the other axis if both are on at the same time. If using 3rd party lenses you most likely wont get the full best results if using native Sony glass but thats a given of course. but it should work just fine

Tamron 17-70 vs sigma trio?
@sjsphotog
@sjsphotog 3 жыл бұрын
Sigma prime trio if you have more than 1 body for sure for best performance but if you just want a walk around lens and dont need the ultimate in sharpness then this is fine but Sigma primes will blow this and any zoom away. primes always win.
@CarthagoMike
@CarthagoMike 3 жыл бұрын
The Sigma trio is sharper, but you will need to bring around all three lenses to cover the range of this single lens. From what I have seen from various reviewers, the Tamron is sharp enough for most of your work, and you will only have to pack a single lens rather than three.
@sjsphotog
@sjsphotog 3 жыл бұрын
good stuff. only suggestion is that your Sharpie marker lines on your smiley face man are too thin to have enough contrast for the AF to detect it fast enough. the lines should be thicker like with a magic marker wider chisel point about 1/8 to 1/4" in width so it will detect the contrast differences much better. in real life the contrast of most subjects is mcuh easier to detect so yoru test is a very overly stress test for AF. Otherwise it looks good for a non native Sony lens.

Thoughts on this lens vs Sony 18-135?
@sjsphotog
@sjsphotog 3 жыл бұрын
super zooms like that Sony 18-135 will be less sharp and worse for low light. this is a CONSTANT aperture 2.8 which is the best you can get in a zoom. if you travel / vacation and only want 1 lens to take then maybe take just the 18-135 and dont worry if its just FB and IG postcard shots for web but if you want better quality and shorter range in the zoom will always be better than a huge zoom range and a primce / dedicated focual length will always have the best optics and quality and sharpness. its physics. cant change that.

Get the 17-70 f2.8... I have the 18-135 planning to sell it.. it's one of the best Kit lens available out there.. but I'm fed up with variable aperture.. not good for videos.. that's the reason I'm going for 2.8.. plus 18-135 struggles a lot in low light.. 17-70 f2.8 is the one to get

17-70 will beharper as the longer the zoom the worrse the quality gets. 18-105 for 1 lens for travel light around the world and dont care about quality as much as light and compact and less theft risk. if image quality is more important then sigma or tamron 17-50 or 17-70 will be better when you will swap out with other leses. primes are always best quality but you have to zoom with your feet of course :)

I love the 28-75mm Tamron an use it on both full frame and crop format cameras. I shoot this frequently on the longer end with both formats. I think that I will continue with the 28-75mm lens rather than taking a sharpness hit at the longer focal lengths. I think that Tamron dropped the ball with this lens. Since I usually shoot with two cameras, I can easily cary one camera with a wide lens and one with the 28-75mm lens... My general kit is the 28-75mm f/2.8 Tamron, 14mm Rokinon f/2.8 AF and the 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 Sony on an A6600 and an A7iii... With these three lenses and two formats, I have a wide variety of equivalent focal lengths available from 14mm to 525mm...

Let me put it bluntly....nobody really gives a s**** about the construction of the lens. You said it your self, "Just because its plastic doesn't mean its bad". I personally find it annoying when reviews focus on the construction of the lens for so long. Ive bought numerous lenses over the years and not once did I care or had a problem with how they were constructed. My only and I mean only concern was image quality. Im gonna baby the lens anyways so..... Anyways. Thanks for the review. I have this on pre order
