All he can do now is try to become a better person and grow beyond his past regrets or else he'll spend the rest of his days feeling bitter and sad. ( there will be manga spoilers )I love washijou as a character. He had a genuine reason to hate on Hinata. He soon grows on me, he learns that Hinata is someone that he couldn’t and I appreciate that. He was such an amazing character a growing character that soon understood the way that he could have done in the past but didn’t get to do. What made me love him more is that he even went to Hinata after his graduation to recommend him to go to Brazil to train, so when he came back he can see that Hinata isn’t the player that needs kageyama but to stand against him and play not as alias but as rivals. And from the recent chapter I think Hinata has done what Washijou has told him. He has grown in ability, and even made a new name for himself the ninja Shouyou. I appreciate a character that can grow even when it looks like he is too deep in the whole that the character has dug

You can push your players to their limits and beyond, force them to improve in a sport without physically hurting them. Improvement is more of a mental game than anything, of course physical condition has a role for any sport but how do you strengthen your physique? Through training, which requires mental fortitude. As long as you’re disciplined and have a strong will, you can improve in leaps and bounds, no matter what you’re doing/learning. No need for physical injury to do that, if my lacrosse coach back in high school had hit me I would shut them out and not listen to them, I would improve on my own.

Tanji was the best foil Hinata could ever got for his character development. In Karasuno he was getting pampered and spoiled because there he could train almost at any time he wanted and a team who was quite accommodating to his erratic play style. He got what he needed, a bitter but understanding deep down coach who forced him to start all over again to square one as a ball boy.
@soultaker067
@soultaker067 3 ай бұрын
I always thought that this is what made Hinata take the next step, being a ball boy was one of the best things to happen to him. Observing, analyzing, etc He was lacking and Washijou knew what he needed and how he could obtain it. Some people saw it as him being petty 😂 and maybe he was in part by not saying it directly to Hinata. Sometimes you have to start from the beginning/basics to make progress.

The idea of "working hard and never giving up" is something that I think anime has overplayed to some extent. With Washijou, this sounds refreshing. Giving up on improbable things is a construct of our reality as people. Working hard does not guarantee success and if you put all of your eggs in one basket then life passes you by and what other skills do you have then? Going to college and getting a degree and not being able to find the job you're looking for several years later. It's a tough reality. But, where this works is in the idea that we can praise those who succeed rather than act upon bitterness. Maybe they had more talent. Maybe they were more fortunate. Certainly I believe in things like that. Sometimes being dealt a bad hand is what it is and you have to accept it. But, to knock down others who did what you couldnt is wrong. Uplifting them is a beautiful part of humanities potential. Maybe I'll give this a read.

Great video on Washijou! I definitely appreciate him more as an antagonist with his self-worth and ideals on the line against Hinata rather than Karasuno or Coach Ukai, and gives much more weight to this line: "I... with my forty years... I want to deny you... Karasuno's #10." It's pretty sad looking at his backstory in retrospect; he was rejected from the sport he loved due to factors beyond his control (seemingly), then sought to create a team that represents everything that had rejected his past self and ideals, yet contains everything he admired as well.

He’s the type of player that when he goes to selections, he’ll almost be imidiatley picked out of the lot. I know I won’t be able to play more later, I envy the taller and stronger players, but I also admire them. I love to see them drive the ball into the block just to blow it in pieces afterwards. It makes me sad, incredibly sad. But the fact that I played alongside them is an honor.

Let me tell you, as someone as small as me I can tell you taller people Will be better players to pick. It means they jump higher, have more muscle mass and power. Life just gave them a good hand as said in this video. Some tall players can be beaten by smaller players because others might have better skills and talent. What impressed me about Washijou, is that even though Hinata unknowlingly proved him wrong, he's notnmad that his pride was shattered. He simply excepts on the chin, and shows that he's ultimately proud of Hinata. And becomes one of his biggest supporters in the time skips.

Washijo didn't have a Tiny Giant to look up to like Hinata had when he saw him on TV. Hinata may have given up too had the legend of the Tiny Giant not been around. I think it's neat how Aoba Johsai made Hinata push to get better to win the prefecture and Washijo pushed Hinata to be an national player and eventually internationally great player. Washijo watching Hinata's progress and eventual full potential being realized was a beautiful sight.
@adamnguyen4517
@adamnguyen4517 Жыл бұрын
Well that and during the time Washijo started playing, volleyball was in its infant stages. The position of libero wasn't even a thing yet so Washijo couldn't have even put his prospects into that aspect of the game. Also, its important to note that Hinata is an absolute genetic specimen of an athlete. Haikyuu is a story that celebrates the gifted despite being masqueraded as an "underdog" story.
@carteebrown4845
@carteebrown4845 Жыл бұрын
@@adamnguyen4517 Well, volleyball has been around since 1895 and Washijo was a player in the late 50s, but didn't get to go beyond high school because of his height. Libero not being around until 1998 definitely did hurt Washijo's chances too. Hinata is only one of the few that's that size and can do what he does. Hoshiumi and the Tiny Giant being the other storywise. After hearing Kita's quotes, it makes me think twice about it celebrating the gifted. All of those players had to work on their games to get where they went to & compared to them, Hinata was truly an underdog (or more so Karasuno were underdogs to most teams). Hinata had no height advantage and lacked the skill he needed to be effective early on. I think his genetics helped keep him in the games, but it was when he developed his mind and then his body that he was able to become an Olympic level star.
@adamnguyen4517
@adamnguyen4517 Жыл бұрын
@@carteebrown4845 Agreed. I'm not saying they didn't work hard, but its ignorant to not acknowledge their luck. To only contribute it to "hardwork" when that was far from the only factor that contributed to how many of them became OIlympic level athletes is disingenuious. Its fine to acknowledge both aspects since you definitely need both to reach a level that high,

In the manga V42 CH 370 he says "You ain't wrong. I figure this wasn't any of my business.Yeah, he's got spine. He's got promise...despite his height. But it ain't any of my business. He can just go lean on some other guy for help. Hell, he's got that aggravating old coot Ukai he can go to. He's probably got connections in Tokyo. But y'know? *I ain't havin' that. Shoyo Hinata's goin' places... And I'll be damned if I'll let anyone out there have higher expectations forhim...than me. Y'hear me?* I think Hinata impacted him more than he realized during the Shiratorizawa match, and also during the training camp. Thanks to Washijou, Hinata got to go to Brazil, in Rio, where a Shiratorizawa alumni lives. It's thanks to him that Hinata got better. Washijou was the first stepping stone for Hinata. And Hinata did deliver when he came back home, playing for the MSBY Black Jackals.

To be fair, if Karasuno had a deep roster and more taller and better players or is still a powerhouse, he might get the same washijo treatment... I think Hinata's dialogue about how he couldn't have done it alone reigns extremely true still. If he didn't have kageyama and his amazing senpais, he would've had a much much harder time (than he already had). Although I can understand why, it was still a bit weird that Washijou eventually accepted that Hinata had no unfair advantages and that he succeeded simply because he worked harder, letting go of his spite. Honestly, I would hate the kid for as long as I lived because the realization that I fucked up that bad would be too much.

I can only imagine how it felt to watch his whole life turn into a what-if situation, especially since he loved the sport of volleyball so passionately and still not be bitter at the end of it.
