You guys have spoken, and Perennial was easily the most requested song that I should do next... So I did! If you saw my reaction to "Pisces", you'd know there were many times where "wow" was the only thing I could manage to say, and it happened again in this one! Once again, super impressed and can't wait to hear more! "Teacher, Teacher" was also highly requested, but if there are any other Jinjer songs you'd recommend, please leave them in the comments below!

Tatiana is a perfect use case for how prejudice gets smashed. She didn't receive any special treatment, nobody gave her an award or success because she was a female in a male dominated setting, nobody shamed anyone into liking her, she just melted everyone's fucking face off by being a complete badass. Someone this talented and charismatic can crush all but the most ignorant biases. She's not the first female performer to pull this style off, but I think you'd be hard pressed to name another female vocalist with the same amount of the "it" factor along with playing with such a talented group of musicians. Jinjer has an extremely high ceiling for popularity and success and it's largely because this woman is too good to dismiss and is competitive (talent wise) with her male counterparts.

This. EDIT: Let me raise one quibble. What her success shows is that metal was never prejudiced against anyone who had the talent to do it well. Perhaps there was a time when it was less inviting and a more daunting prospect for some. However, in my estimation, metal has always been about talent above all else; or, to put it more succinctly: metal is a meritocracy.
@jamesnorthan3284
@jamesnorthan3284 3 жыл бұрын
@@srhiers29 But there has always been that stigma in metal or life in general for that matter that a woman cant do a man's job...especially metal. Tatiana has completely obliterated that stereotype with her abilities. Good luck finding a guy who can do both clean and guttural vocals as beautifully and smoothly as she does...live!!! Yes there are other women out there that do both clean and guttural vocals, but...just my opinion...Tatiana reigns supreme. Not to mention the rest of the band who are geniuses and completely in a league of their own! Just my opinion.

@@jamesnorthan3284 I've never seen a single person say a woman can't do metal; and, the enthusiastic reaction when a woman does it only proves the point further. The stigma is that metal fans are a bunch of misogynists even though there is little to no evidence to prove it. Tatiana has gained her fame on talent, not genitalia. If she weren't good at what she does, no one would pay attention, regardless of her sex. Or, she'd be given undeserved accolades because of her womanhood. As for her vocal talents, she reminds me of Corey Taylor in regards to how effortlessly she can go back and forth. Regardless, I'd say she's in the top five best metal singers currently around.

I'm a chick, I'm into metal - have been for literal decades - and I freakin' LOVE IT whenever y'all dudes get taken aback by women vocalists who growl/scream. It's honestly kinda hilarious to see dudes "lose it" over stuff like this.. (And believe me - first time I stumbled upon Arch Enemy back in the day, I was surprised too; I hadn't seen a woman growl before - at least not like that.) Haters gon' hate no matter what you say. You seem like a cool dude, who enjoys *music* and would not give two shits about what's in the pants of the vocalist of any given band. You do you.

Thank you so much! And yeah, I totally get your point. The shock value of hearing a woman in metal screaming her face off is still there because people are so used to seeing dudes doing it all the time. I have a feeling those days may be over soon, as more and more women are bringing it in the metal scene harder than ever before.

@@TankTheTech Yeah, exactly. Plus - I came from a pretty hardcore blackmetal-fanbase, so my "taste" in growls were already a tad different than - say - your average thrash/deathmetal fan (as the style of growl/scream are different). For me, though, it was also the epiphany of "Heeey... I can do that - she does, I can too" - which is always cool :)

@@TankTheTech Just for fun, another example of a woman who can growl: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX-zlqaCe7mhi8k Won't say who as that'll ruin the surprise. I'll just say that it's not her current band. Enjoy. My favourite bits are the leopard scream at 0.38 and the vocal flip at 3:57 - one that is probably one of the most drastic vocal transitions anyone is likely to hear.

@@TankTheTech I'd also say that it's not just how Tati growls, but how extremely low her growls get. Nobody expects her to get that low, not just because of gender, but size as well. She's 5'5" I think.

Yeah and there are people like me, 50 years old, 40 years more or less deep into Metal (lost the drive in the 90's and missed the whole Death/Norwegian BM Time, i came back in the early Millennium..i had trouble in the beginning liking Growls/Screams/Harsh Vocals). And yes in my younger years i was such an Idiot to say: "Female Vocals...No Way!!" But with age there comes wisdom, i don't care about genres/subgenres, either i like it or i don't, easy as that. So i can easily switch from Nightwish to Mgla on a Music evening/weekend. The same nowadays with female vocals, i am searching for Bands using it, and i also don't care if SHE is using cleans, growls, screams...it has to fit and i have to like it. Greetings from Germany (maybe we'll see us in Wacken in a better time than actually)

There's so much to love about them. One thing would be, how effortless and natural the build-ups feel. And then they relentlessly pump the breaks, relish those pulled back moments, just to go right at it again. Yet nothing of this feels disruptive or forced. It's always in perfect flow. That's so difficult to achieve. Especially since their entire style and the song structures are pretty eclectic and all over the place. But it never feels like that. There's always this weirdly beautiful whole-ness in their music, in which you never feel lost or irritated. They masterfully lead you through their otherworldly landscapes, and you don't even think of questioning it. That, I think, is one of the many reasons, why their music is so uniquely captivating.

Pisces is the odd man out in the Jinjer lineup. I love that song. But most people discover Jinjer through Pisces, and then when they explore the rest of the lineup, they really are rediscovering the band all over again. This song is such a beautiful druidic pagan poem about mother nature in winter time, one of Tati's best. And there is so much going on musically.

You just witnessed musical perfection.....Couple things here. 1. They were the opening 11am spot, and still killed it. That spot would be heracy now for a band of their popularity. 2. This is NOT the usual closing song. There were some technical difficulties at the beginning of the set, which shortened their on stage time. They would normally close with something much heavier, ie, Captain Clock, but, this song has now becoming THE Jinjer song to watch. Keep going, so much more to discover, the reggae, the swing, the ska, the brutalness, the progressiveness. It only gets better from here.

I don't know a single woman who needs a Paul (who seems to have taken one gender studies class too many) to defend her from being called a 'chic'. Virtually all of them are either absolutely okay with it or absolutely able to speak for themselves if they don't like it. Feeling the need to 'defend' women like that is indeed patronizing in itself because it suggests they are too weak to tell you what the do or do not like themselves. Never ever make the mistake to explain yourself or apologize to these people. It will only make them more annoying because they feel validated by that. You're doing a great job conveying honest, genuine and fun to watch reactions to great music. Thanks and keep on going :-)

Idk if Jinjer has ever had a headlining slot at a festival, they are taking the metal scene by storm, but go back a year or two and they were pretty much unheard-of. They are even still playing at bars and night-clubs. I saw them live this last October, they played in a small dingy venue, probably 250-300 people, tickets were $20, but it was fantastic -i'm sure you've been there, in a place so small you can be at the very back and still be close to the stage. One thing you will have to accept with Jinjer is they will never do what you expect them to do. If you want to see them in their element at their own show they have two videos from a show in their hometown, Kyiv, Ukraine earlier this year. Look for Pit of Consciousness or On The Top live and you should find it. They are both absolutely flawless performances and they have the light show going, personally I like Pit of Consciousness, but they are both good

I don't know why people DONT take it as a compliment when someone compliments the talents of a woman in metal. Because metal has been very mysoginistic for so long it's absolutely important to put emphasis on the great female players in music. Breaks down the walls for those who aren't comfortable with more women in heavy music.

As I understand the history of the band is divided into 3 stages: 1. Non-commercial 2009-2014 (before the Donbass war) 2. 2015-2019, commercial, before world fame, 3. 2019-present - world fame. Features of the first stage: no studio albums, more punk, a different image of Tati: less tattoos, dreadlocks. Features of the second stage: studio albums, high-quality video clips, contracts, tours, change of drummer, and change Tatiana's image, high-quality progressive music. Their transition from the second stage to the third is Wacken 2019.

Hey Tank, there's another band from Ukraine. They're called IGNEA. They just released the official video for their song "Jinnslammer" yesterday. They're symphonic metal, a kind of cross between Nightwish and Jinjer. The vocalist is another female who does growls/cleans, but they also have a helluva jamming keyboardist.

Great to meet ya bud, Completely agree with metal being male dominated for so many years and so awesome to see women like Tatiana (and many others) showing that they can kick ass too!, I'm a metalhead since birth(grew up in the 80's) and just super fucken happy to see more women in metal blowing our fucken minds with their talent. Cheers

Great dynamics. This is the element that is enhanced when a female vox can do both clean and growls really well. There is just a whole different range that is possible, but it requires smart musicianship to take advantage of it. The drummer is really good at laying off and building tension, drama.

"Judjment and punisment" live at Melburne! Its the most recent offical live video. It was released this february and it was they own tour. As far as I know they doing only club tours but problably they would get good slots on festivals, if there would be any festival :(

If you review Teacher Teacher notice that the sharp veer sound at the end is being done by Eugene on Bass. You only see him do it once out of the three times the sound hits but it is clear that Eugene is making the sound with his Bass.

My bad the sound that I'm talking about happens 4 times, 2 sets of 2, and on the last one you see Eugene strum down to make it. I'm not sure exactly what he does but it definitely him.
